This place is cute and local. Family owned and you can tell the owners and staff put a lot of effort in and care about their customers. The place isn't as busy as it could be, and the food is kind of hit or miss but I really want to support a local place. The food is tasty enough if you're in the mood for some spice.

I say 2.5 stars. The reviews here seem pretty consistent but I think for those looking for vegetarian food may will find what you want.
Can't say much about what meat dishes but the rest is ok. Again, they could do better, but they are in the right location and do alot of take away. Pricey for some dishes, I usually do the vegetarian food at the buffet. Why do I come here? I'm too lazy to drive into Vancouver when I get the craving for curries. -

La Tandoor sticks out like a sore thumb amongst all of the businesses in this harbor friendly part of Steveston, as a small Indian joint in a "sea" of seafood eateries. Kudos to the owner for trying to be different but a slap on the wrist for their mediocre food.
The Indian lunch buffet was small during my only visit, with only a handful of items that included a Daal curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, a few soups, and some naan and bread. Variety isn't usually a problem as long as the food is good, but alas it was not. And while the prices were cheap, this was clearly at the bottom of Vancouver's high standard of Indian food.Listed in: Please, No More Chinese (VAN)

There's only one reason why this place survives. The tourists. If this restaurant were anywhere else I can't see it lasting. Especially with so many other better Indian restaurants.
The buffet selection here is small and what they do have is just sub par. You can't even bring yourself to "get your money's worth".
The staff though do try hard I'm sure and are friendly but unfortunately it's just not up to snuff. -

I've been here a few times and it's varied between a 2 to 3 star for me. This is sad since it's the only Indian restaurant in Steveston. Hubby and I went here again last night and it's never a good thing when you're the ONLY people eating there on a Sat night!
The strange thing is that they don't even have a system to check for new customers coming through the door when they're at the back. There was another couple who walked in, but NO ONE knew they were there so they left after 5 minutes of being seated with no menus. You'd think that they would put a bell or something by the door since the place is too small to have a hostess.
The decor is basic and the service is so-so. They do try hard once you're there but there was one of our items ordered that got forgotten. We had the beef samosas to start, then each had a curry meal order - we went with the butter chicken (OK) and the lamb rogan josh (not so good - meat was very tough and it was just spicy without good flavor). The meal version included a plain naan, rice and papadum. Their naan is below average - it's too flat and doesn't have the right texture. Their raita is so-so as well.
Considering the dining options in Steveston, this one is definitely skippable. But if you're craving Indian food, this will have to do (the nearest one is another 15 mins away).
