I only ever go to very fancy restaurants on a special occasion and have returned to this restaurant twice. Once for a very important birthday party for a very important person and the second time to help my best friend's, now husband, plan out his surprise proposal to her.
He asked me to find the fanciest and classy restaurant I've ever been to and La Ronde was the first restaurant to pop into my head. It is located on the very top level of Crowne Plaza Hotel and not only is the service exceptionally friendly and polite, the setting was absolutely gorgeous, the washrooms were past the par of clean to a point it makes you feel like you're entering yet another suite in a gigantic mansion and the view was phenomenal. To add to that already enchanting description . . the entire restaurant rotates.
Mind you it doesn't rotate to a point where you feel the food start to climb back up from your stomach and out of your mouth again, (which i think is impossible seeing as the couple dishes i had there were just so tasty), it's a very nice, romantic, beautiful and enchanting place to have a fancy, private or special event with a loved one, some friends for a celebration or even by yourself if you felt like treating yourself to a fancy dinner one day. -

We have been to La Ronde twice. Once for brunch and once for dinner. The brunch was very good if you can catch the confusing rotation right.
For dinner I found the portions small so you have to go for the full deal, of starters, entree, desserts, etc. It is very expensive when you start ordering extras.
The setting is very nice with river valley view and attention from the waiters is excellent. An excellent place to impress a date or friends with the view and revolving restaurant but I believe this is what you are paying for more then the evening meals. -

This is the place I take my daughter for special occasions... and it has always come thru! The view and scenery is grand, but it's the food that keeps us coming back. Always great selections, including the wines, and it's hard to save room for dessert!

Located on the 24th floor of the Crowne Plaza/Chateau Lacombe, La Ronde is Edmonton's premier fine dining restaurant. As soon as you step out of the elevator you are greeted with a disorienting feeling. Fear not, you are not intoxicated. La Ronde is unique not only because it is Edmonton's only revolving restaurant, but because it provides you with a spectacular, ever changing background throughout your meal (it takes approximately 90 minutes for a full rotation).
The moment you settle down in your seat, your server arrives, whose sole purpose in life appears to be only to guarantee you enjoy your experience and your meal to complete satisfaction. The staff at La Ronde are very friendly and extremely knowledge on menu items, fine dining etiquette, and land mark trivia. The thorough training of the staff is apparent and the hedge-stones to their award winning customer satisfaction results.
La Ronde provides with you a dining experience that cannot be compared to anything else in the city. The layout and décor is very elegant, and it leads the way as being one of the classiest dining locations in Edmonton. Catching a glimpse of the sun setting over downtown Edmonton is a breath taking display. The lights dim harmoniously in time with the sun setting, classic piano music gently plays in the background, then the night lights on downtown flicker to life- creating a very romantic atmosphere as you and your company.
Keep in mind that the service and the atmosphere come at a price; the prices at La Ronde are not for those with a student budget. However, where else will you have a dining experience with such a view?
Their dinner menu is somewhat limited as well. Most of their menu items have not changed in the past 8 years. That being said, what they do prepare (bison, crab legs, rack of lamb, and some vegetarian options) could pass through any 100-point inspection offered by a high end German auto dealership. Not only does your meal look good, it takes fantastic! Opt for the flambé option in the dessert menu (whisky based), and you will be entertained as your service glides a flambé kart right beside your table and prepares everything in front of your eyes (remember the server training mentioned earlier?).
Sunday brunch is another milestone and must-go-to at La Ronde. Brunch items are not out of the ordinary, however they have such a wide selection; there is literally something for everyone...go there hungry!
Dressing is also another key aspect to increase your dining experience. Gentlemen, you do not need to go full out in a penguin tuxedo and top hat, however a dress shirt and dress pants or 'business casual' and you would be in good company.
Consistently good food and good customer service has always been a highlight for this restaurant. Much of this can be accredited to the friendly Swiss general manager, Hans Voegeli. He personally greets every visitor as they walk out of the elevator, and literally dedicates his life to making your experience a pleasant and much appreciated one. Whether celebrating a special event, or taking a special someone out, La Ronde is guaranteed to set the mood and set new heights for your dining experience. -

One of my favourite restaurants for date night!!
La Ronde is located on the top floor (24th floor) of the Crowne Plaza/Chateau Lacombe and, in my opinion, one of the must go to dining establishments in town.
Part of the draw of La Ronde is the fact that it's a revolving restaurant, taking approx 90 minutes for a complete rotation, giving you a panoramic view of the city. It's interesting to go at different times of the year to see the beauty of each season. One time we went and had a great view of one of the condo buildings in construction that my husband worked on.
La Ronde is fine dining and the prices and selection mirror that. I was pleased to see regional cuisine like bison, arctic char and pork on the menu, which is also reflected in their dessert options (Saskatoons!). Of course they have wines to complement your meal as well as a beer and spirits.
Later in the evening entertainment takes place, usually in the form of a piano duo (singer) or instrumentalist with backup music. It adds to the atmosphere but at times can be a bit cheesy.
Take your time to enjoy your meal and take advantage of the amazing scenery. -

I really struggled in deciding whether to give La Ronde three stars or four. In the end, four stars won out because this is the only revolving restaurant in Edmonton, and it is my hometown after all. I would have given La Ronde five stars, if I hadn't lived in Vancouver and experienced their revolving restaurants. Yes, I'm a city snob, that's what big cities like Vancouver do to you.
My friends and I had dessert and drinks here one night, because in my experience, fancy restaurants deliver aesthetics, and not so much flavour. We weren't disappointed. My cheesecake was to die for, it was so soft and creamy, and not too sweet, with just the right amount of sauce on it. I can't remember what my friend had, but hers was the most aesthetic out of all of ours; it had this crispy, caramelized mound of angel hair on it.
The view was beautiful, although there aren't any mountains or bodies of water (besides the Saskatchewan river) to look at. I think most of the thrill of this place comes from being so high up, and the slight movement you feel as the restaurant slowly does its 360.
We enjoyed our night out at La Ronde, but we haven't been back since. My friend agrees with me that once you experience it in Vancouver, it's unfortunately just not the same here. But since La Ronde is the only revolving restaurant we have here, I say one should go for it at least once. Hey, you take what you can get, right? -

The only reason this restaurant is rated so highly is because it revolves.
The food: predictable and bland.
The decor: dated and uninventive.
The price: overpriced.
The service: decent.
This place bores me too much to review in great detail.Listed in: Places to Avoid in Edmonton

La Ronde is Edmonton's one and only revolving restaurant. For this reason, I encourage all Edmontonians to eat there at least once - just for the experience.
La Ronde is a very higher end restaurant in downtown Edmonton. It is located on the 24th floor of Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe Hotel.
I think it takes about an hour or so to fully rotate. It's slow moving so no one gets sick!
The food at La Ronde is good. It's very fancy. In my experience, fancy, high-priced food usually doesn't have much taste. La Ronde isn't really an exception. I like the food but I don't think it's anything to brag about.
It is a very romantic place for a date though. If you're aiming to impress, La Ronde can definitely help you in your quest! They even have a Lover's Delight section on their menu.
I enjoy going to La Ronde for the view of the city, the swanky atmosphere and the piano player (they usually have someone on the piano or singing as entertainment). -

If you bring a person on a date to this restaurant, they may end up marrying you - this place is that romantic and fancy. I always knew that there is a revolving restaurant in our city, I just never knew where it was. I was able to locate La Ronde only after one of my friends literally pointed their finger at it.
La Ronde is one of the classiest places in Edmonton. If it's been a long time since you had the chance to dress up to go to a restaurant, come to La Ronde. The decor of this place is posh and beautiful. The service is on the level. The view you get to enjoy as the restaurant slowly revolves will take your breath away. Order a bottle a wine, and take it slow: relax and enjoy your visit.
I find that La Ronde's menu is somewhat limited, and it would be great to see it expand. I do not eat bison or goat, so my order consisted of a roast sweet potato soup and Alascan crab salad. My husband ordered pork tenderloin. We didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive. My soup came first, and it was delicious! The portion wasn't large but it's no biggie since it was only an appetizer. The crab salad and the tenderloin turned out to be very tasty but...God forgive me..I can cook up tastier version of both meals at home. Delicately put, the food was not heavenly, it was simply good. Worth its price though.
I will come back to La Ronde when a special occasion comes up. Loved the service, loved the location, loved the view...liked the food! -

I was really looking forward to this meal, especially because there is an extensive vegetarian menu (which is rare in Edmonton unless one is dining in the University area, on Whyte, an Asian restaurant, or a restaurant that specializes in vegetarian food). Although the food, except for the strawberry desserts (which were bland and unoriginal), was fairly good, the service left much to be desired. Entrees were brought to the table before salads were finished, the waiter was visibly disappointed that we weren't drinking wine (though we'd already enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails), we had to request drinking water, and the debit machine was not even brought to the table at the end of the meal (when we requested to pay by debit). This is not the kind of service one expects from a fine dining restaurant. In addition, the decor is dated and completely unimaginative. However, the views are beautiful, and I hope that the restaurant will modernize its decor soon.

As I write this, I'm spinning very slowly in the 24th-floor revolving restaurant at Chateau Lacombe hotel. I can see the city's skyline from this dimly-lit dining room with a panoramic view. Soft music is playing and I'm sipping Merlot and eating a delicious plate of beef tenderloin, buttery whipped potatoes and fresh, seasoned vegetables. Hello, Heaven up in Edmonton's skies. For a starter, I had the beet and spinach salad in cider vinegar with crumbled feta. As a palette cleanser, I ordered the Saskatoon Berry and Basil Sorbet. It has all been superb! I wasn't feeling quite rich enough to order the whiskey-flambeed Chateaubriand plate for $80, so I will have to save it for another special occasion. Seriously, the view is amazing. If you haven't been, it'll change the way you look at our fine city. The service is impeccable. The manager Hans makes each visitor feel at home and appreciated in his restaurant.
