I thought I found the best place to get a fresh mango cake.. but this bakery is tops! My mom bought a fresh mango cake from La Patisserie a few days ago for my brother's birthday, and it was awesome! It has a lot more cream than the other bakeries I've ordered from and the mangoes were very sweet. The sponge cake was nice and moist (this makes a difference! Don't underestimate the importance of moisture level in a cake! No amount of cream/frosting can fix that!)
Anyways! Give them a try! They have a variety of interesting cakes! And just in time for mother's day too!Listed in: My Favorite Chinese Bakeries

I really love this place but WHY OH WHY do they only accept cash?! T.T
Truly, we would come here more often if they took other forms of payment. -

HSBC restaurant awards has this as the best Chinese bakery for 2010.
Does it live up? Not quite, but pretty good. Had the multi nut covered coffee cake. Semi sweet Chinese style. Not bad.
I missed out on their breads as it was close to closing.
Full cakes look Anna Cake House quality. Will consider it next time I'm in need of a cake. -

A nice, bit more upscale Chinese pastry shop. It has the usual stuff.......egg tarts, cocktail buns, pineapple bun n almond cookies. The pastries aren't too sweet, taste good, visually appealing and reasonably priced. Don't expect the pastries to be too complex or intricate like stuff from Ganache. If you spend over $20 ( I think) you get a 10% discount card. Not bad!
I always manage to come out with a bag full of goodies. -

* The egg tart quest continues *
This was the latest stop in my never ending quest for the perfect flaky egg tart (http://www.yelp.ca/lis...).
I should stress my rating is for the egg tart only, as some of the other items looked nice but I didn't taste them.
The egg tart itself was of the flaky variety, but wasn't flaky. The bottom crust was really thin and had no flake at all. The sides had slight flake, but not a lot. The custard was also a bit too sweet as egg tart custards go. They at least were serving it warm - that was good.
But overall I'm still looking! -

I love the cake here - real whipping cream, not icing (too sweet) or butter cream (I hate the way it sticks to the roof of my mouth).
I also like the buns they have - especially the Chicken something. I've never tried their cookies or regular bread.
While trying to order my wedding cake here, I found out that there are 2 kinds of customised cakes: Birthday Cake and Wedding Cake. The Wedding Cake is taller and looks better. I was going for a budget wedding, though, so I picked the Birthday. They let me without pressure :) The Birthday Cakes can be made and picked up here, but Wedding ones need to be picked up at their main Richmond location ( http://www.yelp.ca/biz... ).
Custom cakes need to be ordered at least a week in advance (I don't remember if it was 50% or 100% prepaid). You can pick your type of cake from the many they have -- I suggest buying one piece of each flavour from the single-serving ones they display, and taking them to your parents' and your in-laws-to-be's! We picked the Chocolate Mousse. Fresh fruit ones seemed luxurious, but we were afraid that the cake would separate there when we cut and put them on plates. The Mango Mousse was pretty good, too, but the yellow was going to clash with my wedding colours once we cut into it.
We got compliments about our cake from our guests. I picked nothing fancy (just a circle on top of a rectangle, no columns, with rose petals scattered on white cream), but the TASTE is the most important!Listed in: Wedding on a Budget

Though I have tried a number of things from here that I enjoyed and sort-of-enjoyed, and the ladies that work there are always welcoming and helpful, there is only one thing I want to mention here: their sweet bread. Oh yeah......
I once found something called Polynesian sweet bread while in Hawaii...and my life changed. But then it changed back cause I could never find it again. But now it has changed in a happy direction once again because their sweet bread comes close. Very close. I love it when something baked can actually bring you joy and a sense of knowing that everything is right in the world. -

Go for the mango fresh cream cake here. It's the best fruit cake I've tried aside from my wedding cake from SF. The mango slices are generous, ripe and sweet complimented by the fresh white sponge cake layered with more mangoes and fresh cream. Light, delightful and sweetened just right.

The best Chinese bakery I've been to in Vancouver. The bbq'd pork and pineapple bun was very good. Soft, flavourful, with a lovely, flaky sweet crust. Friendly people at the counter too.
