I like the meat counter here because I can buy all three types of meat I need to make meatballs (beef, pork and veal). There's not a lot of places that sell ground veal; a popular grocery store near La Grotta quoted me a higher price ($2 more per kg for ground veal). I love their cheese counter; a huge selection of flavours. My favourite in their bakery section are the fruit danishes (sold in 2's for $4.99) - regular danish pastry filled with custard and lots of fresh fruit like blackberries, kiwis and strawberries.

Some of the items are a bit pricier than other grocery stores but I like their selection of gourmet food products so I'll splurge once in a while.

They have a nice seating area where you can dine on a casual Italian meal of pasta, various meat dishes as well as some side dishes - the latter are priced by weight. The pasta and protein meals are $10 and under and are okay for the most party. The meat lasagna ($7.49) is a generous portion but on the saltier side. The chicken lasagna is in a cream sauce - way too heavy and oily! There's also a coffee bar and gelato counter too. The seating area is a nice relaxing place and surprisingly quiet though the rattan chairs are very uncomfortable.

I like the place for the most part, the prices on some of the items was a little high, but I was in for a hard to find oil. The desert / bakery area was full of good looking and priced cakes and tortes that has me looking for an excuse to buy one. Will I shop here regularly -no- will I drop buy for a special item (or that torte when I come up with that excuse) absolutely.

Try the Chocolate Sin Torte, $25 for a small one that feeds up to 8 people (depending on their appetite). Decadent and rich but not too sweet. It's name isn't misleading, it's so good it feels sinful!

Great variety of items; fresh, frozen, bakery, deli, butcher and take-out.  Raisin scones, apple cinnamon bread and apple jacks are highly recommended.  Cognac pate - ok but would try something different next time.

Very expensive produce, meat, bakery items, etc.  I was insulted recently by poor service at the checkout.  I tried to call the business to let them know, but I even had a hard time getting a manager to come to the phone.  If they are going to charge such outrageous prices, then the service should be above average.  Also, my husband wanted 2 Scotch meat pies, which I bought for him.  They cost $4.99 for two small pies.  He opened up the cellophane the next day, after they had been in the fridge for only 24 hours, and there were green mold dots all over the pastry.  I do not know how they stay in business and I think the owner should be doing some quality control checks, rather than resting on her laurels.

the prices are very high, the service is abysmal, it seems like they hire people who don't care what so ever and are very rude. the place has a good selection but there are better places to go. the lay out of the store could be better. the bakery section is way at the back, and if you want to get a strudel or some kind of slice you have to go get it there then go back to the check out and pay for it then find a place to sit. being an Italian market i find it hilarious that no body knows how to make and of the drinks ( latte, cappuccino) the pasta and other how meals you can get are alright but mine was cold already and way to expensive for what i got. i would rather go to delucas over this place, cause they know how to run a business. La grotta just seems like money is being put in but no body cares make any effort.
