Buffalo, NY
consistently awesome, authentic mexican food, served by very courteous authentic mexican staff.
margaritas will get you loaded fast, but wash down the best homemade salsa i've ever tasted. the queso fundido is to die for (literally, because its so decadently cheesy, its likely taking days off your life), and the burrito has never disappointed me.
only downside is that it is all the way up in niagara falls. however, after visiting the second location in lockport that has since closed, i am convinced that you can't capitalize on magic. you've gotta get in your car and make the trek up for the yumminess that you crave, because that experience just didn't translate to the lockport location -- the service was horrible, the food quality and consistency was worse. we left puzzled, but have since happily been back to the n. falls blvd restaurant, where everything is tip top.
i caution you not to be a snob about the decor or the location, because you would be missing out on a great meal. -

One of my Niagara Falls favorites for super cheap and super fast. Free chips and salsa. The margaritas are excellent and inexpensive. Everything that has beef in it pretty much tastes the same. I usually get the chicken fajitas, which are amazing. Gets very busy throughout the weekend during dinner time. Worth a try. That is all.

It's not often that you find a small Mom and Pop Mexican restaurant in Western NY but this is the place to go. Don't compare it to a chain Mexican Restaurant because it isn't even a fair comparison. Not the best decor and you certainly don't need a tie but it is exactly what I would expect from a true Mexican establishment. When working in the area I go for lunch and haven't been been disappointed yet . The food is inexpensive. - free chips and salsa - waiters that speak broken English and really good Mexican food - that's why I stop and recommend it to others.

Buffalo, NY
Okay, the drive to the falls is a total bummer and if you can get past the seedy-hotel atmosphere, you'll be greatly rewarded with delicious, tummy filling Mexican food. Lets face it, the Buffalo area boasts some great food spots, but the mexican representation is totally lacking. La Galera makes up for it in spades.

Just a quick drive across Grand Island and you're there. You might miss it as it is tucked in the corner of a motel. Don't let the non-descript looks fool you, the food more than makes up for it.
We eat here 3-4 times a month and keep going back for a reason. The salsa is fresh and tasy, with plenty of cilanro flavor, it's easy to eat a few bowls of it. We wish they would sell it, so we could take some home for later.
Food is always of good quality and more than filling for the money. They also have a location in Lockport, but we haven't visited that one yet. -

In The Falls for auto service at Baldo Ford, I decided to give the amistoso muchachos at La Galera the opportunity to impress me.
I should have listened to 'Mary G'.
My $19 pitcher of margaritas aided me in washing down the dry flavorless Huevos con Chorizo served me.
Several half-dead flies buzzed and rolled about on the window sill in my booth. I somewhat enjoyed their company.
A better plan would have been to get the pitcher of margaritas to go and hit the closest Taco Bell. -

My boys and I always raved about this place! Went this evening..never been so disappointed before! They weren't even busy but the food including the salsa was very below par!!! I will give them one more try; only because I know what they can do!!!

Yeah. All you people out there that want to visit Niagara Falls... GO TO THE CANADIAN SIDE!!!
Barry owns a company on Sunny Buffalo Ave in the fine city of Niagara Falls. We go to Chili's almost every day and share something at the bar for lunch. I suggested La Galera after the food maven Janice Okun gave it 3 or so stars...UGH.
Staff is friendly. There are 74 million NYS permits posted on the wall behind the register that permit this Mexican family to do business in wonderful New York State.
Ordered jalapeno poppers to start because we were hungry. Yuck.
Yuck. Yuck. On to lunch options:
My fajitas were some sort of stir fry mix of peppers, onions, and chicken served along with tortillas wrapped in foil. Barry ordered an enchilada and a burrito. Number whatever on the lunch menu. Both came out looking and tasting the same: a burrito enveloping ground beef. Period.
The decor made" Al's" from "Happy Day's" look like salvatore's Italian Garden's.
The outside? Are you kidding me? Wait, IT IS Niagara Falls, N.Y. after all.
Pathetic. -

I love La Galera. Living in WNY for the first 24 years of my life, this is the only Mexican restaurant I could go to over and over again, enjoying my experience every time. I love just about everything I've ever ordered, and what's better are the prices. For two to eat without alcohol, you will almost definitely get out under $25 after tax and tip. Service is consistent, water glasses never get low. Not to mention, you'll be in and out in under an hour, without feeling the least bit rushed!
My personal choice is usually enchiladas! If you're looking for fancy mexican cuisine with interesting twists on classic dishes, this is not the place. La Galera serves up great tasting, classic Mexican dishes that feel like home.
If you're not looking to spend a lot of dough, and you want to be stuffed with tasty mexican food in WNY, this is the only place to be. -

Best Mexican food in the city. Quick service, fair prices, and delicious margaritas!

Yum quick, obscenely fast, well-priced Mexican food. Not the highest quality food, and if you want corn tortillas you have to ask, but very yummy lunch fare. Don't be scared by the sleazy motel attached, it's definitely better than taco bell and you won't spent mucho mas dinero!

Buffalo, NY
Why are there NO good Mexican restaurants in Buffalo! We drove all the way up to Niagara Falls in search of good Mexican... what a disappointment. The chips and salsa were good... and the Shrimp Quesadilla was better then expected. Rice and beans weren't so bad either. But the cheese was AWFUL. And it was on EVERYTHING. It tasted like plastic-y, rubbery American cheese-food. How hard is it to find good cheese?

I love La Galera.
The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and it's unbelievably quick. Also, cheap eats and good drink specials--ole`! Extra cheap specials if you come at lunch time (I believe it's until 2:30, Monday to Friday).
I've tried many things on the menu, but my favorite is actually their regular hard beef tacos. They have a great balance of meat to cheese to lettuce ratio, and the shells always taste fresh.
Give this place a try for sure. It's awesome. -

Great authentic mexican food!!! So yummy! I got chicken enchiladas and they were delish! The waiter was friendly (spoke broken english) which added to the atmosphere, I felt like I was in Mexico!
Definitely MUST GO!! -

Okay, so the restaurant is connected to a motel and it looks like a dive, but the place is fantastic. They're quick, clean, and delicious. The fajitas were really good. You get a plate of beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, and two warm tortillas. I had the chicken fajitas, they arrive on a traditional skillet and there is so much food; I couldn't finish mine. The chips are fresh and the salsa is yummy, but mild. You can ask for a hotter salsa...but I'm telling you, it will light your fire. Muy Caliente! (very hot). Unfortunately, I didn't try the Margaritas but a lady across from my table had one and they looked gooood.

Really out of the way if you are in Niagara Falls visiting the Falls and staying in the Falls area. A 15 minute drive from 1 Prospect Pointe, and I would like to ask fellow Yelp-reviewers if they think it is worth it. Personally, would I drive for a total of 30 minutes just to eat here? Not from the way that the restaurant looks from the outside and the neighborhood it is located in.

4.5 stars if I could use halves.
I've been here at least a dozen times and just realized they're not on Yelp!
If you're looking for a quick, inexpensive, filling meal--but don't feel like having fast food--La Galera has you covered. They may not serve the epitome of "authentic" Mexican food, but when you have a time limit (like your lunch break from work), and aren't looking to decimate your wallet, you can never go wrong here. The food is very good for what you pay, and their dish-to-dish consistency is near-perfect.
The servers are friendly, the restaurant is clean, the menu is full of options and the turnaround time for your order is lightning fast. The drink menu does includes alcohol and you get free unlimited tortilla chips and salsa upon being seated. They also accommodate taking food to go. There have been a few times where I've eaten here on my lunch break with coworkers, and have ordered something to go for someone else back at the office. They prepare it later than the food you'e actually eating at the restaurant and give it to you with your check, that way it's still hot for whoever you're bringing it back to. They even put extra free tortilla chips and salsa with the actual to-go order, without me ever having to ask, bonus!
Out of all my visits here, there was an instance where I order a chile relleno as part of my meal (which I've had here multiple times), and they gave me a stuffed red bell pepper, instead of a poblano. It was probably because they were out of poblanos, but I'd rather be told a certain item was not available, than be unpleasantly surprised with something that wasn't what I ordered. But don't let that stop you--delicious, cheap Mexican food awaits you!
And yes, I realized I reviewed them on Cinco de Mayo. Don't think it wasn't on purpose! -

I've been to La Galera twice now, and I'm not overly thrilled with it. I'm not opposed to Mexican food - in fact, it's something that I generally really enjoy. But the slop on a plate that they serve here leaves everything to be desired. And let's just say, their refried beans look more like grey matter than food. I wouldn't even feed that crap to a dog.
I am giving it two stars because I do like that they seat you pretty quick and staff is friendly. If they could improve the food, they would probably do pretty well. The only thing I liked food wise were the free chips & salsa they serve you when you are seated. Prices were pretty cheap here, which was good. Nothing worse than overpaying for bad food.
Overall, I would try this place one more time - maybe just for their $2 Coronas and free chips & salsa. -

La Galera serves up great, classic Mexican dishes that feel like home. My family is from Mexico and while the food is tailored more for Americans I still enjoy the food. They serve it fast and hot. The prices are cheap.

A few of my girlfriend's friends took her here after work for her birthday. The food was excellent, but this place didn't disappoint when we told our waiter we were celebrating a birthday. He came out with my girlfriend's "prize," as he called it, a shot of tequila and an enormous blue sombrero for her to wear when she puckered up and bit the lime!

Good food at a reasonable price, nice sized portions, and a great waitstaff. The chili verde was excellent, and the kids portions were more than adequate for our hungry children. Definitely worth visiting while on town!
