A small vineyard with delicious wines!
We visited the grand Mission Hill Estate earlier in the day and had been underwhelmed by everything other than the architecture, so we took a friend's recommendation and drove down to Penticton to visit La Frenz.
La Frenz is a tiny estate with just one small building. We entered to find a tasting counter packed with happy people -- it's really just one room with a tasting counter and a bulletin board or something on the wall (no frills).
We nudged into an opening to look at the available wines for tasting -- taste 4 wines for $3, the price is waived if you buy a bottle. The whites are wonderful, especially the Riesling and Viognier -- those were my faves. The Alexandria tops out the sweetness range at around 3 but it was also delicious. I also tried the merlot and cabernet sauvignon, both sturdy and full bodied.
We bought a half dozen bottles. The winery also provides online ordering by the case. Most bottles are around $20-25.
I will order from them in the future -- -

This is a beautiful spot with a great patio. We visited in the spring (during the wine festival) and the place was absolutely jam packed with people. The line at the till made it almost prohibitive to buy their wines after the tasting.
We paid $20 to join the winemaker for a taste of his reserve wines. He hosted people outside on the patio and it was a bit more serene than the madness inside. We got a souvenir wine glass and tasted five wines. We were there in the afternoon, and we could tell the winemaker was getting tired of repeating the same speech over and over again while he did the tasting. He was running on auto-pilot by the time he saw us.
We were tempted to join the queue for their 2007 small lots Riesling, which was dry, tangy with a nice citrus flavour. But we probably would have waited 45 minutes to buy a bottle. I don't know what could possibly take so long to ring up people's wine and fill their orders.
Besides the Riesling and maybe their Chardonnay, there was nothing that we were really that interested in. But we felt like maybe we'd tasted something different than all the people who were lining up!Listed in: Wineries in OK…

Hiding away on Naramata Bench, this particular vineyard is well-known but smaller than you'd think. a winding path leads through the grapes to the front door, and inside there is a variety of wines to taste. A bottle of Alexandria came home with me because it was just an odd wine. Great place for photos!
