Charming.  tiny, great wine list, good prices, adorable waitstaff.

I had one of my most enjoyable and memorable meals in Charleston at La Fourchette.

A girlfriend and I split a mountain of mussels & DUCK FAT potatoes.  These are the moules all others have to stand up to now.

La Fourchette also has a vegetarian option in the Gateau de Legumes. What?!? No meat!? Crazy. and good.  Layered aubergine, courgette, tomato and cheese are a tender balance of caramelized vegetable sweetness and chevre. (fine, whatever! goatcheese, eggplant and zucchini. lol!)

Our waitress was sweet and helpful. She recommended a bright (yet not harsh) Viognier to pair with the moules. Good choice!

We also had oh-so classic profiteroles and chocolate sauce for dessert.  My friend and I were hard-pressed to not lick our plates clean.  (We may have employed a finger or two.)

    C'est magnifique?

We spotted La Fourchette on http://restaurant.com and decided to give it a try. Very glad we did. Be sure to make a reservation, because the restaurant is fairly small.

I had boeuf bourguignon, which was presented in a single-serving Le Creuset french oven. It was delicious. The beef was tender and not at all dry like one-pot dishes can be, and the carrots and mushrooms were cooked perfectly. We even asked for extra bread to soak up some of the leftover wine-infused broth.

My fiance ordered steak frites, which he declared the best meal he's eaten in a restaurant. (It bumped a steak he had a few years ago at Kitchen on Common in Belmont, MA...) I had a bite, and I have to agree-- it was terrific. A really great sear on the outside and medium rare inside.

Our waitress was friendly and water glasses were refilled frequently, which I always appreciate. My sole complaint was that the table, which theoretically could accommodate four, was very small, and the chairs were a bit rickety. Otherwise, the restaurant was very nice-- small, like I said, but candlelit and quaint.

Great food at decent prices in the heart of Charleston. The place is tiny, so you may want to call ahead, lest you'll be standing outside watching everyone else eat. Nice wine selection, too. Highly recommend it.

Three out of four dishes were blah.  We knew we were in trouble when the complimentary bread left something to be desired.  The much-hyped double fried duck fat fries were soggy and cake-like, not crunchy or crisp.  The lentil soup was good but frankly was a tad, if any, better than canned soup.  The terrine-tyle goat cheese/zucchini/eggplant dish tasted like something I might have engineered in college.  The (lone) highlight of the night, food-wise, was the shrimp and scallops in broth that had a bit of pesto in it.  That dish was quite good, and the scallops were perfectly cooked (translucent in the center upon arrival to allow for additional done-ness in the hot broth).  Our waitress was pleasant and attentive and the atmosphere is charming.  Most parties seemed to include at least one francophile in the mix, but in the future, they will probably omit me.

My boyfriend and I decided to splurge for our anniversary and went to La Fourchette (usually it would be out of our price range). We were delighted by our meals. Based on our yelp research we decided to get what often recommend and we did not err on that. He had the steak frites salade and I had the cotes d'agneau. Probably one of the best meals I have ever had. The ambiance is fantastic as well, very intimate. Reminded me of travels to La France. Writing this review has made me hungry now. Wish we had a place like this where I live.

    A perfect evening.
The service was impecable, ambiance romantic, and food delicious.  Sweetbreads were done perfectly (spinach a little buttery and onions not quite cooked enough, but perfect otherwise) and duck salad was amazing.  It's rare that you can get fresh spinach tossed in a light vinaigrette with Duck 3 ways...delicious.  Steak was cooked perfectly and black truffle butter was subtle and a perfect accompaniment to the hangar steak.  We'll be back again.

This place is FABULOUS! This was our first venture out for fine dining in Charleston, and we went during Restaurant Week. I highly, highly recommend! I lived in Paris for several months and the steak frites at La Fourchette was some of the best I've ever had. Wine was superb, atmosphere was adorable, charming and cozy. The beef bourguignon is delightfully served in little red Le Creuset cocottes. I went with my husband and a friend visiting from out of town, and we all loved it!

I went to eat here earlier this year for my anniversary with my boyfriend, and I am so glad that we picked La Fourchette. The restaurant, which is very cozy and romantic looking, has wonderful (REAL) french food-- especially their duck! (and their Ragu appetizer...mm)

The service was perfect, our wine was excellent (which I thank the staff for knowing enough about wines to appropriately suggest bottles according to meal choice) and I am waiting until the next time I have an opportunity to come back!

So I really wanted to go there since I had read all about their double duck fat fried french fries in all sorts of Charleston publications, but I don't know if the fries lived up to the hype. Although they were good.

But the rest of the meal and the atmosphere were wonderful.  They had a great variety of options as well as good price points, you could spend a lot but you didn't have to.  I ended up having the "pork shepherds pie" as they described it on the menu, I don't remember the actual name, and it was fantastic and a lot of food. It comes out piping hot in a single serve casserole dish and was mouthwatering.

La Fourchette is a great place to check out because it combines the decadence of French food with a very approachable menu and wonderful environment. They offer the classics that you would expect, as well as modern interpretation of French ingredients. The highights of our meal were the beef tartare, the hangar steak, and the cream of cauliflower soup. Their deserts were basic and delicious and definitely a must to end your evening. The menu prices are average for the quality of the fare and the wine list is broad enough to cover most palates.

The dining room is small but friendly and they do an excellent job of balancing your meal into an elegant and fun experience. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and did a great job of recommending wine selections to fit our group tastes. La Fourchette is equally good fit for an anniversary dinner or a nice dinner out with good friends. If going on a weekend or holiday, I would suggest making a reservation.

What an incredible meal. Small, French bistro that is just like being in Paris. The service & food was exceptional. Wife & I had appy of Pommes Frittes (French fries) cooked in duck fat, delicious. Lamp chops cooked to perfection with au gratin potatoes that were the best ever. Dessert was profiteroles with melted, warm chocolate poured over. Wife had vanilla flan. With all the great restaurants in Charleston this may well be the best. If you're in Charleston you must try it.

Not a whole lot to add beyond what's already been said. This place is fabulous. Expect to have a delicious meal in a tiny cafe filled with personality, atmosphere, and the steady buzz of friendly conversations. It can still be romantic, just don't go expecting to have a quiet meal.

We started with the pommes frites, which were prepared and served in a more rustic manner than at other places I've been. However, they were great and the accompanying aioli was addictive.

Dinner consisted of the pulled-pork shepard's pie for the mademoiselle, and Basque chicken with olives for myself. Not only were both sublime, the portions were enormous. Had we known, we easily could have split one entree between the two of us. We were told those are some of the largest dishes on the menu, so don't expect that of all the entrees are such -- best to ask first. But, come to think of it, the order of pomme frites was also quite large. Very impressive, as it is one thing for the quality of the food to be worth the cost, but not often the case that the quantity also adds to the value.

Our glasses of rose Cava paired very nicely with the frites and both entrees.

We finished with a shared order of the profiteroles, which were topped with a generous drizzle of warm bittersweet chocolate sauce. Yum!

The espresso was the only slight hiccup of the evening. It was acceptable but not among the best I've had.

I very much look forward to a return visit soon.

I want to begin by saying this review is not based on the quality of the food but the quality and character of the owner.  As a self absorbed Frenchman with the courtesy of stale milk, I had a very unpleasant evening that showed his true character as a womanizer, snob and disrespectful owner and person.  I would not recommend his restaurant as he is selfish and is not genuine in his customer service.

Had never been to La Fourchette...seen it many times, and heard about it a lot. A couple months ago we bought a "Groupon" and still hadn't gone. The Groupon expired on March 22(yesterday) so we went last night. Apparently we weren't alone in waiting til the last minute. The entire restaurant was PACKED with a line out the door. All of the tables around us were using their groupons as well.

We had reservations for 7:45 and were seated promptly at that time. Others without reservations were being turned away until 9pm. Yes it was THAT busy on a Tuesday night. There were a bit short staffed since they weren't expecting to be quite that busy - however the server did a great job of running around taking care of everyone. The french bread was great, the wine was good.

For starters we ordered Gateau de Legumes Grilles Au Chevre (Grilled Eggplant, Tomatoes, and Zucchini layered with goat cheese and a leek sauce) It was good - will be better when all the fresh veggies come in. We also had the Tartare De Bouef which was really good. The portions are very large. You could almost get away with ordering an appetizer and some french bread and making it a meal.

For dinner we had the Cassoulet with Duck Confit, garlic sausage, and one other type of meat. It was VERY good. Typical french food rather Heavy(so the remainder of it is in my fridge for a side dish tonight) The other dish was the Cotes D'Agneau Grillees Gratin Dauphinois (Grilled Lamb Chops with a rosemary au jus; Potato, garlic, gruyere, and cream au gratin; and asparagus. The lamb was cooked exceptionally well, the potato au gratin was out of this world good!

The server did an excellent job handling the rush of people, and the food was great. We will definitely be back.

I'm not a conissour of French food, but I know what I like and I like La Fourchette.  It's not an every night type of place for folks like me, but it's a great place for a date.  The food is orgasimic, (try the Orange Duck and/or Pomme Frittes) the wine list is extensive and deserts are good too.   The servers are helpful and friendly as well.

Great little romantic spot for our 3rd anniversary. I mentioned this when I made the reservation, expecting a cozy corner table, but instead, the hostess seated us in the middle row. I was a little miffed until she brought out two glasses of champagne--a very nice touch.
We started with a cheese plate, which featured a mouth-watering Morbier, some powerful gorgonzola, a funky camembert, a subtle but exquisite manchego, and the belle of the ball, a truffled goat cheese. I can still remember exactly how that last one tastes today, and man would I love some more.
I tried the moules frites and my husband went with the pork tenderloin and fries. We were both moaning by about two bites in. The mussels were fat and perfectly French, in a lappable white wine and garlic broth. The fries we both felt were too salty but still decadently good. Whatever the tangy dressing was on his side of cabbage did wonders for that vegetable. We each had a different glass of wine and couldn't have been happier with our selections. Mine was a Domaine de Fenouillet cotes du ventoux with enough bold flavor to stand up to those fries; his was the only Spanish red on the menu (always the rebel).
The prix fixe menu mentioned by another reviewer no longer exists, apparently. Wish we could have tried the profiteroles I saw gracing another table, but there was simply no more room. We will definitely be back as the wallet permits. It's nice to find a place that balances a casual atmosphere with elegance and good service so well.

The spectacular food will take you from the low country to France in no time. I love the moules frites, the wine, the atmosphere. Enjoyed a late dinner during the week, topped with lively conversation with the owner. The quality of the food and service make this place a true delight when in the area. Go, live and enjoy!

The customer service at this place is just horrendous. I took a few of my friends here recently and waited for almost 10 minutes before our waitress even acknowledged us. At that point she asked us if we were ready to order, but never once asked what we wanted to drink. We choose to just drink the water on the table. The brunette waitress was extremely snobby and seemed annoyed when we asked her questions about the menu. The whole experience was very uncomfortable and I got the impression from the staff  that they believed we did not belong there (we were all in our mid 20's while the rest of the customers 40+ up). The food was overpriced and my scallops were very chewy. I would not recommend this overpriced hole in the wall to anyone. I felt really embarrassed that I took my friends there. If you want a  fine dining experience with good food and excellent customer service I recommend Tristan, Grill 225, etc.

Best steak frites I have ever had the pleasure of devouring. The place is fabulous. A must if you are anywhere near Charleston. Old style service from a charming French man that will taunt you if you order water instead of wine. Incredibly cheap for the class of food. I cannot stress how good this place is. The beef tartar is great also.

The wife and I went for our anniversary.  I'll try to break this down since there was a lot going on.  Atmosphere:  Very nice.  Quaint little space with close quarters similar to what you find in Europe.  Dimly lit but a little to loud to be "romantic."  Appetizers:  We had some cheese and some duck pate.  Both nice without being too rich or overdone.  We also got the french fries (don't ask) -Yeah, I would skip those next time.  Entrees:  Sadly, these were the least exciting of the evening. I had the casoulee and wife had the duck.  Really nothing special.  The wine list was extensive and good and reasonably priced.  That said, dinner for two, with tip, was about $140.00.

I have to first say that I have grown up eating French Cuisine, in both Europe and the French West Indies.  I have been to La Fourchette on two occasions.  It is good, but not great.  They have an excellent wine list, cheapest bottles are $36.  The "baguette" is okay, but not authentic.  My most recent meal I ordered the Magret de Canard, which is duck breast, ordered medium.  The meat was well, and very very chewy.  The sweet honey orange sauce was not on par with typical french dining.  The sides were lentils and braised brussel spouts, the best part of my dish.  My date had the stewed chicken in a tomato based sauce with green peppers, which was authentically prepared however lacked in flavor.  The double-fried duck-fat fries served with the house-made aioli were great.  I would stick with my first meal I had there, the mussels in the white wine sauce.  Ambiance is worth the OK food.
