Maybe I'm cynical but it's a rare case of customer service that really makes me overlook all other aspects of the business. But when it comes to La Fontana, and describing it to my friend, I always describe everyone working there before the food.

When I first went to La Fontana it was to celebrate a new move into the neighborhood. We ordered burgers, which as an aside were delicious, but were completely put off by how long they took to make. We were actually discussing, before the burgers came, how we'd never come there again but when the guy behind the counter brought our order he apologized for the wait. He also said since we lived in the neighborhood if we ever wanted we could call ahead and place an order before we got there. I couldn't believe that.

Beyond the great service and nice people, La Fontana has a lot of strange amenities like board games and a big screen to show movies or soccer when they see fit. It is as clean and well kept as a big chain restaurant but has all the kindness, uniqueness and great food of a secret little place.

I'd suggest anyone in the neighborhood make this their first stop, and if you live around there, make it your regular destination.

As a science fiction fan, I have long had my eyes open, looking for a "fan friendly" place to hold fan club meetings. Well, I've found it. La Fontana has room for lots of people (over 100 came out for the final episode of Battlestar Galactica), not one but two large screen TVs, and a wider selection of menu choices than a place like Starbucks or Blenz, but what makes it really special is that the manager is a fan himself. He really goes out of his way to make things happen for fan groups. From opening outside of his normal business hours, to adding event-specific items to the menu, to dressing up for the occasion, nothing seems to be too much effort to welcome groups. I predict that La Fontana is going to be THE fan hangout in the Lower Mainland for the next few years.
