Review from Tony B.
Well worth doing.
We arrived at about 9:30 for the changing of the guard.
Be aware that it is $10 per adult and $5 per child.
This includes the guided tour. Also be aware that if it rains they may cancel the ceremony and you will not be refunded since you can still do the guided tour.
This is an active military base so you can only see it with a tour guide.
It's too bad as it would be nice to be able to walk around and enjoy the views from the fort and the old military equipment around the fort.
You also do not get enough time to view the museums of the regiment.
There is plenty of room around the parade ground so do not worry about getting there to get a good spot. All spots are good.
The changing of the guard takes about 35 minutes and the tour a little over an hour.
If it is possible I would recommend arriving for the changing of the guard and coming back later for the tour. I am not sure if they allow this, but then you may be able to enjoy things since there wont be 5-10 large groups touring at the same time.
We also stopped in the git shop. Prices were very reasonable and they had some unique items, so make sure you take a look. -

Our bus tour guide relinquish her charges to La Citadelle's own tour guide, Cédric. Cédric was very informative with visuals and some maps leading our group of thirty five Americans on the grounds to Le Musée to The Changing of the Guard promptly at 10am. He explained the logo by breaking down its components including Québec's slogan: "Je Me Souviens" (the beaver is Canada's national symbol). Cédric informed with great details to our tour bus group of Canada's history influenced by the French and British, which pave Canada to become the country it is today.
Citadelle is a historic site with 300 years of rich military history. La Citadelle de Québec is the largest fortification built by the British in North America, in Old Québec.
Admission is free with guided tours of the residence and Redoubt of Cap Diamant 1693. I highly recommend a visit while in town to witness The Changing of the Guard, the regimental goat, Batisse the X. Changing of the Guard occurs from June 24th to Labor Day daily at 10AM, but does not operate year round. The guards are very kind and patient to pose for photos and act as photographers for tourists in true French Canadian hospitality. -

If you go for the changing of the guard ceremony, be advised that they take rain VERY seriously. We paid our $10 each and stood at the parade ground waiting. A group of soldiers marched out and began to count off. Then a few drops of rain fell. And I mean a FEW drops, with blue sky coming on quickly. However, because of those few drops of rain the ceremony was abruptly cancelled.
We still went on the tour, during which we were rushed through the museum parts. Almost got a sunburn during the tour when the sun came out.
The views from the fort make it worth while.
