So if your still calling pain au chocolat "chocolate croissants" and you're
looking for a "coffee shop" (previous reviews), I suggest you head south to Starbucks or better still, Timmies. If you're looking for exquisite  french pastries, you've come to the right place. Our family practically lives here. The croissants (which are made by Jules) are hands down the best in the city - as are the pain au chocolats and amandines. Great selection of vegetarian and hammy quiches, sandwiches and really interesting salads - quinoa, beet, broccoli, etc. - they change it up. Crusty breads to take home, yum! Tea Emporium teas that are quite lovely, and of course there's the fabulous Te Aro coffees.  But no, this is not one of those two other establishments mentioned above, so you will not be getting any 800 calorie slushies masquerading as coffee here - this place is for grown ups who actually appreciate real European coffee.
Down sides - nothing to get bent out of shape about: sometimes they run low on options near the end of the day and in the past there WC has at time been out of commission, but it's been fine for months now so perhaps they've found a permanent fix (if you're over 6'3" you may have to hunch over cuz it's in one of those North Toronto basements).
The place is a gem and just writing about it is getting me thinking I should run over and get me a café au lait and amandine to go!!

Maybe I went there with higher expectations, but I was so disappointed.

There's not a big selection of drinks and that wouldn't be so bad if their coffee was actually good, but it wasn't.
Service was just average - staff was polite and that's about it all.

What made it worse was how they decided to clean the place when everybody was still there. I've worked in retail before and that's not something you should do. They couldn't just wait till everybody leaves?!? I don't like my drinks with extra dust so I'm not going there again. I've seen a lot better anyway!

    Glorious croissants!

This charming cafe near Eglington has a little bit everything from quiche to salads, sandwiches to cakes and cookies, but  their croissants are UNFORGETTABLE....so buttery and rich, yet so light, it's not hard to demolish more than one in one sitting.

    Good latte / espresso.

Poor service, I have actually NEVER been served and have been in the cafe many times as I would like to try some of their pastries that do look so good. I have even walked to the back where all the servers were and still nothing. They were all more involved in a conversation then to say hello. I have peeked around the cash to see if I could get someone attention and still nothing...

    *Clarification!!

For inquiring minds, the food here is not made in house. Everything, from the cakes, breads, pastries, quiches etc. is made at Jules Patisserie on 617 Mt Pleasant Rd. Nothing is made in house. I specifically inquired about this at the cafe. And you will see from the size of the place that there is no room/full kitchen to actually bake anything! So if you find they are sold out of something, just head over to Jules Patisserie!

It's still a great place though.

    VIBE
I stumbled upon this French cafe while walking up Yonge north of Eglinton and what a find! It was a nice refuge on a grey Friday afternoon. Everything is stark white and the staff are friendly and quick. I like the higher up counter for singles. It doesn't seem that the clientele really want you to eat at a table for two (the blasphemy!). Anywho, yes, it's nice. There are actually French people that come here too. Mais oui!

    I ATE
For my first time here, I had the French onion soup. It was okay. A solid "good" and filled me up. I think it needed more cheese on the top. But very oniony. At $7 it was decent for lunch. I'd like to try their sandwiches and pastries next time.

    OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK
It's no poor man's paradise here. But if you're look for something a bit off the radar at Yonge and Eg, this is a great find. I'll be back!

I've discovered this place when they just opened thanks to the spa manager upstairs! And from the opening til' now they've grown pretty big but haven't change their friendly and positive attitude !

Everything here is just like home, in Paris. Every single viennoiserie (pains au chocolat, croissants, brioches etc) is just perfect ! The croque-monsieur and ham & cheese croissant are as good as the one you get in the finest bakery of Paris.
And the dessert..... DE-LI-CIOUS !  Well the chef is from France !

As for the coffees... well I used to go there with my father who's intransigent when it comes to espressos and he loves the one of La Boheme ! Lattes and cappuccino and chocolat chaud are also really nice.

The decor is contemporary, chic and warm. This a great place to either come with you family, your BFF after a shopping day or your books and computer to do your homework.

La Boheme is owned by a very sweet & knowledgeable Iranian family and the manager,Peggy is extremely nice and professional. The staff in general know the products pretty well and is thoughtful.

Definitely go to La Boheme if you leave near by and if not jump in the subway to spend an pleasant moment there !

I love this place. They are not getting five stars because "La boheme" is a misnomer. I showed up here in: tie-dye skirt, hemp t-shirt, half way between a spliff and the 60s. I was greeted by a clean white counter, professional service, contemporary design.
Also, they definitely stretch the boundaries of what should be characterized as a "coffee shop", they do serve caffeinated drinks but their selection of sandwiches, pastries and fancy dessert typey things fringes on business lunch.

Their food: everything is made in-house. And they mean everything: bread, sauces, the tiny details you don't even think about. It's very possible they have a cow out back to ensure the freshness of their milk.
My Croque Monsieur had just the right amount of cheese, fresh bread, crispy ham.
Fruit tart: absolutely delicious. I would have ordered three more if my waistline could have afforded so.
Cappuccino: yum. High quality beans, pressed well. Food trumps all though.

Will come back when I want to impress: a date, a date's parents, my parents, my parents' dates.

La Boheme is my hot spot at the moment! This place is bright, clean, spacious and a relaxing café that offers a variety of buttery goodness, cakes, tarts, quiche, pizza, salads, coffee beverages and more. The staff is super friendly, helpful and efficient.

Everything I had here was excellent. I love their almond croissant with the gooey chocolate inside. The croissant is light, flakey and not too sweet, just perfect! The mango mouse tart bursts with a fruity sweet flavour and has a nice creamy texture to it. Also, I love the coffee here! The iced-americano is strong and smooth. The latte is perhaps the best I've had so far- hot strong espresso with really thick and creamy steamed milk mixed in all the way through the latte, instead of just sitting on top.

The only downfall about this place is that sometimes they run out of goods, and once something is gone, it's gone for the day. Also, while most of their goods are reasonably priced, there are other goods that I find to be overpriced.

Overall, La Boheme is a relaxing café with yummy options. I would recommend this place!

My lemon tart was lovely- slightly sweet, tart, very creamy, good crust albeit a little hard
    .
But at $5.25, i thought it was a little steep. The ultra delish Mixed Nuts Euro Mini Pie (longest name ever) @ Dufflet is only $3.75 or so. And the crust on that pie is better...

Cafe had a good vibe; it was packed at 3.30p on a grey Sunday, so i can only imagine how crowded it gets on Saturdays and during brunch and 4p++

Latte was pretty good. They use Te Aro coffee. The ham and cheese croissant was tasty. Seems like a good croissant base. A latte and ham and cheese croissant came in at $9. Yikes... A bit steep for what it is..

They have free wifi. The seating isn't very comfortable. All of their baked goods are wrapped in cellophane. I wanted a cookie but they only had small little cookies sold in bags of several cookies. The basement, where the bathroom is located, looks like it's falling apart... If you can avoid going to the bathroom, that'd be better.

I wish I came a bit earlier when they still had sandwiches and other things. The croissants look good but I didn't try them. I wish they had individual cookies.

Overall, a decent spot. I'd go here again because it's nearby but if I have more time I'd travel to a different coffee shop.

Fantastic coffee, and bakery goodies from Jules on Mt. Pleasant which is easily one of the top bakeries in the city, makes this place my regular on weekend mornings.

Beware one bad thing about this place though - on Sunday mornings, yupsters from the neighbourhood bring their little 2 and 3 year old's and they run around screaming bloody mayhem, ruining a nice time reading the paper and enjoying the amazing coffee.

Other then that, this place is the win.

Ever since I discovered this place last summer, it's been my favorite midtown coffee shop. I am not a huge fan of sweets but their almond croissants are just irresistible! They serve excellent cappuccino and latte to go with it. In addition to different kinds of pastries, they offer a variety of salads and sandwiches but I haven't tried them personally.

The atmosphere is bright and relaxing, but the seating arrangement may not work well for big parties (more than 6 people). They have a beautiful back patio which could be the most romantic spot in autumn. Unfortunately, they don't do a good job at its upkeep and the true potential of this patio is mostly unrealized. I have been there twice in the fall, enjoying the sun and yellow leaves all around me and noticed a few customers who didn't choose to sit in the patio simply because the tables were not properly set and they were covered in dead leaves. Mind you, I was secretly pleased not to share this tranquility with other people:)

Another minor issue is the ordering process. There is no real lineup which gets confusing when the place is busy. The friendly and nice staff do a good job at bringing some order to it though.

La Boheme Croissant is so devilish good!

So Fluffy! So Light! So Buttery!

This is one of the pastries I don't really want to share with anyone. But my friend was looking at my chocolate croissant with hunger eyes after he wolfed down his plain croissant in 1 minute record time!

The Caffe Latte I have is so cute with the heart shaped latte art made by the nice/friendly barista. The heart stayed impact until I finshed my whole coffee :) The roast is from Te Aro, so the roast is a little stronger.. but that's the way I like mine!

The interior is nice and bright. I do wish that there are some armchairs or sofa sitting. That for sure will be a relaxing place to hang out with your friends and talk about nonsense on a Sunday afternoon!

    Three words!

    1. chocolate
    2. chip
    3. baguette

I happen to discover this place on route to another restaurant. La Boheme is a cute little pastry shop that offers a myriad of French pastries, cookies, sandwiches, and quiches. I took the aforementioned baguette home, assuming that I would share it with my family. I cut a small piece... and another... and another... eventually I noticed that the baguette was no more!

I am definitely going to check this place out again!

So glad this is here.  Not that it is far, but unless you want to walk to Mount Pleasant, there aren't many (any?) decent independent cafes in the Yonge-Eglinton area.

Had a Croque Monsieur, cappuccino, and a pain au chocolate.  All were good.  A bit of an expensive lunch at $14, considering I'll probably need a snack in a couple hours, but this is the kind of place you go to for a treat.  I'm not sure why but they don't have a menu posted, other than for their coffee beverages, so if you are not a regular there, you have to look in the display case and try to figure out what everything is, and order my pointing.  Prices are also not posted.

As a side note, and this has nothing to do with the business itself, but why do people have to go to these otherwise peaceful places and carry on their BS conversation at a decibel level that ensures it is broadcast to the entire establishment?  It is pretty bad when the 10 year old sitting next to me looks at his mom and says "Those men are soooo loud!"  Good for him - he is well on his way to learning the true meaning of douche-bag.

Fantastic new cafe in the Yonge and Eglinton area. What's hot? This place has coffee supplied by Te Aro from Leslieville (read tasty espresso) and definitely has the best croissants in the neighbourhood.

What else is great? The food is good too. Get tasty sandwiches, quiches, salads and desserts...If you need some good bread at home, you're in luck because it's also a bakery.

Go out and enjoy have great independent coffee and pastries in a neighbourhood with way to many Starbucks.

My favorite local cafe around Yonge and Eglinton. It has a true french feeling. Their pasties are amazing, my personal favorite is the almond croissant and the sour cherry pastry. They also have great coffee, salads and quiche. La Boheme recently opened their back patio which made me even more eager to spend time relaxing and sipping on a cappuccino there.

The staff is friendly, but keep in mind it gets very busy on weekend mornings!

I first discovered La Bohème a couple months ago when I was strolling in the Yonge & Eglinton area. Being a lover of patisseries, I would always note down any patisserie that I haven't tried before. When I passed by La Bohème this afternoon, it was extremely packed. I went back an hour later when it was less crowded and was able to grab a seat. It is quite spacious inside with a good amount of seating area. The interiors are white with nice wooden floors. Their menu include items such as coffee, croissants, danishes, quiches, cakes, and sandwiches. The staff were polite and friendly although the lady who served me didn't seem to be knowledgeable about the items. I could tell she was new but she was friendly so it didn't bother me at all.

I ordered a latte, broccoli & cheddar cheese quiche, and a Pistachio Bavaroise. I really should have tried their croissants but I already had one earlier from another place. La Bohème brews Te Aro beans and that was a pleasant surprise. The small latte ($3.30) in my opinion seemed more like a medium or large which is a good thing so I'm not complaining :) It wasn't the best latte I've had but it was definitely good. The broccoli & cheddar cheese quiche ($4.95) was crispy on top with big pieces of broccoli in the middle. Aside from broccoli, the quiche also had red onions and cheddar cheese to add to the savoriness. It was well-seasoned with a generous amount of black pepper but it didn't take away from the main ingredients. The crust was flakey, buttery and pure goodness.

The Pistachio bavaroise ($4.65) I chose reminded me immensely of cakes by Rahier. There seemed to be a number of similarities between them so I inquired one of the staff members about it. I asked whether their cakes were made in-house and she told me that they're made by the head chef at Jules Pâtisserie. My review of Jules can be found here. This is a very complicated cake and I shall attempt to describe to you what it tastes like to the best of my ability ;) (Please forgive my poor decoding). This cake is consisted of many layers and it's packed with different flavours. The top layer is apricot mirror glaze with a spicy kick to it. The cake is garnished with a passion fruit, a piece of carmalized apricot, and lavender. The outer layer with the purple circles wrapped around the cake is sponge cake; dry and rough in texture. Inside is a thick layer of pistachio bavarian cream with bits of pistachio nuts. The two layers of cake are bound together with a layer of rich chocolate ganache. There is also a piece of apricot hidden in the middle and I also tasted a bit of licorice in the cake. This was light and not overly sweet. I may have missed a few things but all I can say is that this delectable cake is a piece of art and it tastes incredible :D

I enjoyed the chai latte and it was a nice open concept venue. They could use some environmental branding though, white tables, white walls...kind of reminded me of the apple store, where a coffee shop should give a warm, welcoming feeling. Nice atmosphere and service was great!

It is nice to have this addition to the Yonge/Eglinton neighbourhood. I called the cafe before deciding to come here with friends, just to make sure there are plenty of seating areas and we would be able to get more than just pastries. The individual was polite, knowledgeable, and gave a good overview of the cafe, I immediately felt welcomed and had the sense of urge that I must go check out this cafe now. This place did not disappoint. What a charming, bright, and refreshing cafe! Met up with friends at 9am on a Saturday morning, ordered the croque monsieur, apricot danish, croissant with cheese, Cafe Latte, Almond Tea, and Cappuccino. Everything was mouthwatering and I for sure will be one to return. My friend loved the place so much, it's inspired her to open a cafe just like this one. What else is there to do but dream after a good morning breakfast :)

This is the best cafe in Yonge/Eglinton neighbourhood. Great food, coffee, and baked goods, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, clean, and has a gorgeous back patio during the summer. The ingredients they use are high quality. For example, their mocha uses Ghirardelli chocolate instead of the cheap commercial stuff other places use.
