Review from Antonella C.

So, this last Friday night we were off to La Boheme. Having read half a dozen reviews, I have noticed most all of them are of one extreme or the other. Based on my experience there, I prefer to consider them a reasonably solid spot (that will do what they can to make their patrons happy), however, notwithstanding what I feel is a need to do a little work on the aesthetics of the dining area as it is a shame that for such a great room with such wonderful sun, for example, they have to resort to "creating" a blind that will provide a bit of shade so customers aren't blinded by the (finally!) wonderful sunshine that does come through their windows :-] Onto the food.
On this evening, my companion chose to go with the Table d'Hote and so he had his first course of the potato and leek soup which smelled delicious and then followed by a very green simple salad. Having not gone the "Table d'Hote route", I had the Pate' di Foie Gras which was good, however, I enjoyed the pate' I had at Gini's more, but again, this one was good...just feel like it needed a little some more. Unfortunately, the green salad that came with it was a bit overdone with the dressing (which was very good, just too much of it for my taste). My companion's entre was the salmon with dill sauce, quite good to the taste and dill sauce was not heavy tasting at all. Then there is my entree. I happily ordered the baked chicken breast with gorgonzola (as I LOVE gorgonzola). There was a tiny hair on the side of my dish....I am not the squeamish sort, so I simply asked the waiter to come. He was profoundly concerned and even asked if I was still hungry at all -- I guess he thought I would have completely lost my appetite at just the site of it. Again, it was on the side of my dish, so no contact with the food. I told him "yes" and he went back and in the course of about 15 minutes, I had a wonderfully piping hot entree, which I did VERY much enjoy. The waiter apologized again on the part of the chef and staff (he even made the comment that they couldn't figure out how it happened since the chef is bald :-] ). In any case, once he made sure I was okay with the meal, he kindly offered that they "treat" me to a dessert. I accepted and had the "pot au chocolat" which was very good and very dense--they use dark chocolate which I really like. My companion had the Napoleon which he enjoyed too.
I have to admit, being there made me think about a few places in the city of Lyons (France) where the place is very "homey" and the people who work there are very much "alla mano" (am not able to translate this phrase) in which the staff embrace that they are part of the "neighbourhood" even though I have read some reviews where folks consider it more "formal" ....not us, if anything, the folks that live in the area are lucky to be able to simply walk :-] -

So over priced, so tattered and dated, so arrogant. This was a horrible experience, complete with lukewarm potatoes, poorly prepared rack of lamb, worn out table cloths that take you back...way back. An added touch was the dusty fake flowers. I had my daughter with me, so not to make a scene, I just said the meal was Ok when asked. Well...haughty or what? Update, your room, update your menus, bring your pricing down to something less than ridiculous, and do something about the attitude. Or maybe just retire.

My experience at La Boheme was wonderful. I met the owner, Ernst Eder, and he gave me a tango lesson. Let me back up, La Boheme is a French restaurant in the Highlands area, and also a Bed & Breakfast. My friend and I heard that on Friday nights there's a buffet and night of tango, and so we dropped in to find the salon full of avid tango dancers, and Ernst, the host, was kind enough to give us a few lessons. It was such a unique experience. I honestly don't remember the food, but the wine was flowing that night. La Boheme serves French cuisine and some Moroccan fare in the dining room. From what I've heard, the rooms at the B&B are extraordinary - you can choose from suites like the "Amadeus" Room or the "Greta Garbo." They have a romantic getaway package for $360, including a 5-course meal, champagne, strawberries and cheese platter that sounds positively decadent.
