Just to be clear, L.A. Bento isn't a restaurant.  They make to-go lunch boxes . . . healthy, delicious to-go lunch boxes.

I'm a busy girl and I literally live out of my car for weeks at a time. (Note: I am not homeless.) When you live like I live, it's hard to find something fast and tasty  . . . that isn't going make your arteries hate you.

These boxes are great for a picnic hike or a busy day on the road . . . and if you stop by early in the morning, the coffee is pretty good too.

The food is incredibly fresh and hearty.  You definitely feel like you go your money's worth after you finish your meal.  They deliver (or you can pick up) and then they come back the next day to pick up the Bento boxes.  Easy-peasy!

    I've had the:

*Turkey Pastrami Sandwich/ Piquillo Pepper / Pickle / Havarti / Basil Pesto Aioli  -- Loved it!

*Roast beef Sandwich / Sundried tomato / Cabbage Coleslaw / Provolone  - This one was good but I got tired of the coleslaw towards the end of the sandwich.

*Muffletta Sandwich/ Applewood Smoked Ham / Spicy Salami /   Pepperoncini / Olive Tapanade / Provolone  -- The bread on this one is A-MA-ZING!

Of their sides, I have had the Orzo (OMG! SO GOOD!) and the Fingerling Potato Salad(Yummy).  And they always throw in a freshly baked chips and a chocolate chip cookie :-)   Really, they can do no wrong in my book!

If you are even slightly intrigued, you should give them a try.  You won't be disappointed.

I love the concept, execution and most importantly, the FOOD!
If your local, you should give them a try.  If you work within their delivery area, you should give them a try.  If you're hosting an event and you're not local, I bet  you could work something out.

Next time I have a crew working on my house, I will save myslf a drive to fetch lunch and call LA Bento.

l love the concept of L.A. Bento especially for group meals.  As it says on the website:

    1. You choose a sandwich and accompaniment
    2. We add housemade chips and cookies
    3. You pay only $10

I had the chicken salad sandwich and it was awesome! My favorite thing of all was the cute wooden boxes the lunch was packed in. I definitely recommend ordering here with a big group since it's so convenient.

I went there one morning a few days ago to meet some friends and got a coffee.  Because I'd heard that the croissants are "out of this world," I had to try one.  The croissant was perfect!  Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside!  And the coffee was fresh from Jones in Pasadena.  'Nuff said.

While waiting for my coffee, I asked about how the lunch-ordering thing works.  The very friendly Matt pointed me to the menu.  It's very simple.  You choose a sandwich and side.  Everything is $10.  Also, they will deconstruct the sandwhiches and serve them as entree salads, if requested.  They have: turkey, roast beef, tuna, muffletta, chicken salad, and a vegetarian option.  But it's not that simple.  The turkey has oven dried tomato, homemade pickles, havarti, and remoulade.  Yum!  I was sold.

I ordered the muffletta.  It was salami, capicola, ham, provolone, muffletta relish, pepperoncini and it seemed like there was a garlic spread as well.   For my side I ordered the Quinoa salad.  They also have Orzo and Cous Cous.  When lunchtime came I found myself going "mmm" and "m-mmm" with each new bite.  The  sandwich was perfect and the Quinoa salad was amazing!  The potato chips were fabulous and I'm a potato chips snob.  And the cookie was the right kind of soft.  A perfect-tasting, perfectly-sized little chocolate chip cookie.  Ooo, it was a good lunch.  Gotta treat yourself once in a while right?

So the idea with these guys is that they are there so that if you live in the Glendale/Glassell Park/Highland Park/Eagle Rock/Mt. Washington area, you can drive by there in the morning from 7 AM to 10 AM and pick up your gourmet lunch for the day.  But it gets better!  All their proteins are hormone-free and sustainably farmed.  All their breads are baked daily at Breadbar (artisan bread-makers).  And they use 100% recyclable paper products for their packaging!

If to-go gourmet lunches are your thing or you live in the area and you're looking for a new morning coffee place, check these guys out!

I would agree w/shirley on A for effort and concept but quality of food is a bit meh.

I bought the BloomSpot which was like $30 for 5 bentos. To my sad dismay, they didn't come in cute wooden boxes but branded cardboard. (I guess if you order 10+ they send you the good packaging)

Ordering was easy-peasy over the phone and the dude was very courteous. Delivery was also on-time and with no issue beyond the $10 extra charge to deliver to the Westside (booo).

Food: Roast Beef, Tuna, Turkey, Veggie and Muffeleta. Sides were fingerling potato salad, couscous salad and just regular green salad with chips and cookie in each box.

My favorites had to be the roast beef and turkey while the tuna was okay and the veggie and muffeleta were weakest links (like I seriously ate half or less of these which is saying alot as I am pretty much a garbage disposal in the sense I'll eat not-so-great things just so they don't go to waste). On that same note, please see my reviews on weightloss clinics.

But seriously, if I'm paying $10 a meal, I really feel like I should be getting more 'wow' worthy food and everything should come on ciabatta (sammy-wise, i don't need like couscous on a roll or anything). This regular sliced bread stuff doesn't really cut it for me (though I do realize it's good for variety).

Even if you have to sacrifice the chips and cookie to save some margin, I think it would be worth upping the ante with the flavors of the sandwich in order to set yourself apart. But again, I dig the concept and customer service couldn't be better.

Our office ordered sandwiches from LA Bento, and at $10 a lunch I can tell you it's an amazing deal. I got the muffaletta and Santa Fe quinoa--not to mention the homemade potato chips (these could seriously become an addiction) and chocolate chip cookie. The muffaletta was a gourmet take on the New Orleans sandwich, which I enjoyed. We will most definitely be ordering in again from LA Bento.

So this truck has a new thing called "Fourth Friday Picnic" at 5900 Wilshire. I'm not sure if it will be at the same location each time but today was the first time they did it. And it was awesome!

First of all, you pay $10 for a delicious meal (love the bread!) that includes chips (definitely caloric but delicious) and a cookie. AND free unlimited Izzes!! Loves it!

And it's outside on the grass and you can either sit on the lawn (on a blanket that they provide for you) or on a bench in the sun. AND there's a band playing wonderful sweet tunes.

    It's awesome.

Whether it's just you at your desk or lunch for the audience to your lunchtime powerpoint preso (yawn!) these folks at LA Bento are a great alternative to the daily lunch grind.

Order by 10:30 and you'll have a 4 course tasty lunch (sandwich, salad, HOMEMADE chips + cookie) for a ten spot ($10 flat).

Besides the top notch food, who else is going to deliver to you in a tie?
Put down your Trimana menu and call LA Bento instead!

I was recommend to LA Bento by a friend recently.  As many of the other reviewers have already pointed out, the concept and execution of these affordable (and delicious) box lunches is spot on... but the new handsome laser-etched wood Bento packaging has taken it to a whole new level!   The Roast Beef and CousCous are my personal favorites, but all three lunch combinations that I've tried have been excellent.

Would order from them again in a heartbeat.

i would sayy....4 stars for the service, idea, and execution, but the food is ehhh... very normal and nothing too special.

i think you can just call ahead to order by phone, but its a lot easier when you follow their twitter and order from them if your location is en route to their delivery route for that day.  for $10 you get a sandwich and side, either a salad, couscous, or a pasta sort of side, and chips and cookie.  the sandwiches were okay, they taste like a starbucks packaged sandwich but a little more fresh and the sides were decent but nothing to rave about. i dont know if i was just really hungry that day but the sandwich, side, and cookie didnt really fill me up too much.

it IS cool that they delivery to your in a box that they can even come back to collect and recycle them if you have 10 or more.  and the guys who come deliver your lunch box are really nice and sometimes pretty cute ;)  haha. its a nice light lunch but i find myself craving something a bit more substantial if im gonna be forking out $10 for lunch.

I won a contest today on Twitter and got my LA Bento for free! I've been meaning to try them for so long, but it was never convenient with my location, SO glad I stayed home this morning to get their downtown pickup! Beautifully packaged, and such a great deal! I can't believe I held out for this long, definitely going to be a regular affair now :)

One of my new favorite place to order lunch. Nothing short of awesome. I had the muffletta and the special of the week (BLT) and both were excellent. The side salads were excellent as well as the chips. The cookie was a bit lack luster but I'm not going to ding them for that. The food and the presentation is definitely worth the $10. If you have a chance to order from them it's definitely worth the try to become a convert. Ordering is easy as 1-2-3. I chose what I wanted, called them to place my order in the morning and by lunch time food was delivered.

i've been there twice now for a hot cup of jones coffee and a pastry in the morning. . .it's a nice, simple vibe and i love that they have stevia too!

i've had the turkey sandwich and it is soooo good. the home made chips taste like in-n-out fries at their best!

i loved it. . . can't wait to taste all the sandwiches especially the chicken salad, tuna, and vegetarian (with roasted red peppers!).

it's such a great deal too. for $10 i got a big sandwich, a little side orzo salad, those great chips and a chocolate chip cookie (my favorite). . .

Looking for lunch ideas & tired of the same old, same old? LA Bento to the rescue. They're local & they deliver!

Their tag line is "redefining lunch in a box".

    How it works:
*You choose a sandwich & side salad, and get homemade chips & cookie for $10.
*All of the sandwiches can be deconstructed into salad entrees as well.
*You place your order before 11 AM and a waiter will deliver your order to you.

The food is healthy & tasty, hormone free & sustainably farmed, and the bread is baked fresh daily by Breadbar.  They also use 100% recyclable paper products. Great company to support!

Today I ordered a deconstructed chicken salad as an entree. It was delicious! I love that all their sandwiches can be deconstructed into entree salads. And the salad was made with a nice variety of greens (no cheap iceburg lettuce) so it's good fuel for my body.

Bonus is they deliver for free to my office in Pasadena!

My office just had an introductory meeting with LA Bento and it was amazing!

Each attendee got the $10 bento box (whole sandwich, side, chips and a cookie). You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients and the care that goes into everything, from the Nieman Ranch meat to the handmade potato chips. We also got to sample the other sandwiches and salads. I'm normally not a fan of tuna salad, but will definitely order it in my future bento. All of the sides were delicious, especially the cous cous. I really don't think you can go wrong with anything you order from LA Bento.

If you're on their planned route for the day, you can order a single bento and they'll still deliver it to you without a delivery fee. If you're not, you can do an "office rally" with coworkers and they'll still deliver (with a $10 delivery fee). For larger orders, they ask for the standard 24 hours in advance.

Steve F, you are awesome and I think you've changed my life.

The owner was really nice, even though I'm not quite sure that they were technically open.  He had a box ready to go within 2 minutes and I was on my way.

The muffuletta was tasty, if a bit heavy on the olive for me.  Good quinoa side and great potato chips.

I would suggest making the opening hours/takeout hours thing a bit more clear.  I'm still not sure when it's open or how I order if I want to go there after 10am.

My biggest problem, however, was with the boxes themselves.  They are heavy duty cardboard that will protect the food quite well.  But it seems to me an awful waste of resources to use one box per order.

I like the food and it's close to work, but I have second thoughts about going there and using this big box just for my little lunch.
