Review from Mel C.
The most expensive macarons I had in Toronto were from La Bamboche. I know why they charge the prices they charge because each macarons had the same consistency texture wise. Hands down they win for my favorite texture. The initial bite is a nice crunch and as you keep on eating it, it's a bit chewy which is exactly the way I love my macarons. I don't remember all six flavours I tried from here but I remember the champagne strawberry being really delicious (you can definitely taste the champagne) and the mystery macaron was also interesting. Flavour wise, I cannot say they're my favourite. I still give them 4 stars because the macarons were close to perfection but I'm most likely not coming back here just because of the price point.

Slowly more and more bakeries are starting to make macarons and i couldn't be happier. We came to La Bamboche last Sunday, and ordered 4 different flavours. To start i had the yuzu, and that is one of my fave current flavours, it was tart and delicious. The next was the cassis, and i usually prefer buttercream, but that was made with a ganache, and the berry and chocolate just went so well together. After that, my experience turned south. I tried the salted caramel, and there was the tiniest drop of caramel in the middle, not a sufficient amount to flavour the macaron. Also the pistachio was really bland.
This shop caters to a lot of wealthy people, it is a splurge to come here. There was a customer ahead of me and she spent over $100 on a cake and macarons, and she was .10 cents short, and she told the girl she had to run out to her car and get the change. I handed over the dime, you would think that if someone just spent over 100 dollars that you could waive the dime that they were short.
Overall, when i go back i will stick to the yuzu and cassis, because they were one of the best that i have yet to devour. -

I stopped in here after an evening a romantic evening La Coquine. So impressive that this place is open until 11pm on weeknights, which makes it a perfect post-dinner stop.
The Manor road location is modestly-spaced, with about 5-6 tables. They brew Van Houtte coffee which isn't terribly impressive, but it was fine. Besides, I was there for the macarons. Let's do this.
A half dozen set us back about $12 I think, which I think is standard in the macaron world. We opted for two each of the mint chocolate, the mystery flavour, and the sea salt and caramel. The mint chocolate was too sweet for my tastes, and the mystery flavour was strawberry which was a bit of a let down. But the sea salt and caramel was like biting into an angel (I assume). The caramel buttercream filling has amazingly rich and creamy texture.
I'll certainly come back to try the other flavours, but I'll make sure to always get those sea salt and caramel ones. Awesome.
Obligatory Title Pun: Need a macaron at 9:30pm? BAM!
Menu Readability: Freaking elegant.
Need to mention: They serve brunch in the afternoons.
What this place teaches me about myself: I put the "mac" in macaroons.Listed in: Where to get fat in Toronto

Macarons!!!!
These are the best Macarons in Toronto. They are crunchy on the outside, slightly chewy on the inside and filled with flavored cream. Non-of that jam stuff.
La Bambouche is on a small side street south of Yonge and Eglinton. I work North of Yonge and Eglinton, so this trek was new to me.
The store was quaint. It's like what you would imagine Martha Stewart's kitchen to resemble. Pine wood tables, counters, chairs and bakery shelves. Glass display cases, wicker baskets and straw here and there. Provokes the sense of homemade farm goodness.
The macarons are far from a farmer's baked apple pie though. These things are sophisticated morsels of sweet, crunchy, salty, chewy and creamy goodness. Something you HAVE to try.
I actually came over after work around 7:30pm. I wanted to pick up macarons as gifts for the day after. So 18 macarons in total coming to the price of 2.60 each. Buy 6, pay no tax! perfect!
One of the coolest thing was the mystery macaron which is different everyday. I thought that this was a fun idea. Still can't figure out what I ate, but it was delicious.
Here are the flavors I got to choose from and what I thought about each:
Salted Caramel
- sweet and salty, the perfect combination
- cream is studded with small pieces of caramel
- my favourite
Sake and Ume
- Japanese sake flavoured and taste just like it
- It's a different kind of taste and a bit salty, which I grew up with
- second favourite
Cassis
- Reminded me of a sweet wine and grape jam with less sugar
- not that special, and this flavour is common
Amaretto
- Like a Ferraro Rocher, hazelnut cream/nutella overwhelmed the meringue flavour. I'm not complaining though.
Lavender
- Tasted like flowers in my mouth
- different but not great
Yuzu
- Citrus explosion
- tart and a tad sour
- like a grapefruit and orange are making whoopie in your mouth
Overall, if you like macarons, La Bamboche is the place to be.
Try it out, love it and then come thank me.

BEST MACARONS IN TORONTO.
WOW! i have tried macarons from other locations, and they just don't compare to La Bamboche. They are just so fresh and you get so much filling on the inside. My favorites are the pistachio, caramel sea salt, and even the sake one was great!! Oh and i forgot the lavender. Basically--they're all great...try some -

Being a macaron virgin, I thought it was time to indulge in such a sweet temptation. *Note* the macaron I'm talking about is different from those chewy coconut treats, 'macaroon'.
A macaron consists of a few layers- the thin outer shell, and two light biscuits hugging either a cream or jam-like filling. They come in plenty of unique flavours at La Bamboche, but most of the ones I would've wanted were gone. So, I settled for two pistachio macarons ($2.50 each), and camomile tea ($2.00). The macarons were absolutely delicious! They were fresh; the pistachio filling was creamy and not too sweet. They're small, perfect and pricey. The camomile tea did not even taste like camomile, but tasted more like mint tea, which I personally find disgusting. There obviously was a blend of mint and camomile but the tea was advertised as only camomile tea.
La Bamboche offers Japanese inspired cakes, quiche, coffee and loose-leaf tea beverages, buttery croissants & more. The place is pretty small and therefore has limited seating space. Also, the staff is friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable for some things, and other goods are pricey. La Bamboche did not 'wow' me; it's a nice little cafe and I think I'll just go there for their coffee beverages.Listed in: Yonge & Eglinton

Another one of the amazing places I wouldn't have found if it wasn't for Yelp!
This Japanese style - French patesserie, is the real deal.
The cakes are plenty, small ($5.25 each around). The best one (with a design that reminds me of a feminine part) was the Praline Mousse, but it was my mistake to try this first. The others (Esprit du Japon, Fruit multi layered, and a caramel cake) were also very good. Fresh mousse, fluffy and light. Subtle flavours. I was the perfect indulgence to bring home to my parents.
I also got the infamous Macarons and some merigunes.
I think I had my first food-gasm because the Macaron (ume and sake flavour) was heavenly. It's crisp on the outside, and filled with a cream filling that was delicate and subtle, but unique flavour. I haven't tasted anything like that, and it was amazing. I think this is the best thing I've ever eaten.
It is $1.50 each (I think) so eat it wisely.
I have now over hyped it, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.
You can either eat in, there are a few nice big tables, or take them home to devour in private or with friends. But if you're like me and don't like to share, get 2 of each.Listed in: Thanks Yelp!

I think macarons are addicting ...
Tried the salted caramel, expresso - or was it cappuccino - can not remember, and the amaretto.
This time, the fillings in these macarons were cream ... hmmm ... yummy!
My favourite was definitely the salted caramel. My least favourite was the amaretto - waay too sweet.
Wish I won the lottery so I could just gorge on macarons without consequence to my bank account!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I felt like the cakes at La Bamboche were either hit or miss. There was this lavender coloured layered cake that was much too dry, but their chocolate cakes are definitely hits. As for the macarons, those were very satisfying. I liked the fact that the size of their macarons are slightly bigger than most of the other ones found in patisserie, they also have very interesting flavors. Highly recommend you check the place out.

Bamboche le original. Bamboche Bamboche!
We came here late Sunday evening close to moonlight. The staff were obviously getting their things ready for closing within the next half hour. Macaron selection was limited by this hour but still manage to pick out a couple choices that seemed to stand out from the rest.
Spicy Cocoa, and Ume & Sake. From what I've heard, a hungry herd of Yogi's consumed those like a pack of wild rats and quite enjoyed them. I had the Spicy Cocoa at Bamboche le 2nd up at Avenue road. Reminds me of Spicy Cocoa at Soma Chocolatier.
Opera de la Passion single portion looked to be multi-layer fluffy cakeness of the western variety however when consumed, it was a bit denser than expected and nothing melted in my mouth. A lazy chewer like myself wasted valuable energy to consume instead of keeping my energy to combat the cool night.Listed in: En Français

I Love Macaroons and this place has awesome ones!
- Ume: subtle and creamy and can definitely taste the sour plum
- Yuzu: so surprising in a macaroon
- Lavendar: love the chocolate cream that pairs so well with the lavendar crust. yum!
I also got the almond flaky biscuits and they were good- not sweet but crunchy and tasty.
Also love the ambience of the cafe. Will definitely be back for b'fast before work!
PS: Will also be back to check out the Spicy Cocoa Macaroon which apparently, they ran out of (or didn't have it that day; the girl helping me couldn't really explain...) -

A tiny little bakery tucked into a street off the Yonge & Eglinton area.
Coming in on a weekday afternoon, the selection of goods seemed decent. I was here solely for the macarons though, and the display case showed they had about 4-5 flavours to try.
I picked two:
1) Green tea with mango ganache: the green tea flavour of the shell was wonderful, and the mango centre was delicious! Good filling-to-shell ratio and strong, mango pungence.
2) Caramel sea salt: I heard this one was good but was pretty disappointed. Didn't really taste much caramel flavour, nor sea salt, and it was way too sweet overall. The centre just kind of melted together with the shell into this sugary, buttery mess and can't taste anything else.
Also, they are both so teeny and each $2.50 - a bit overpriced!
The ones at Metro Bakery which sell for $1.69 and are about 2x the size tasted better. -

My main reason for visiting is always macarons! Size is large and $2.50 each. They are always fresh and heavenly when I visit, which is Friday afternoons. I find that's the best day to get macarons anywhere, as they are prepared for the weekend crowds.
My all time favourite macarons from La Bamboche are:
Caramel Sea Salt (caramel toffee in salted caramel buttercream)
Pistachio (100% pure pistachio filling, sweet and nutty)
Yuzu (Japanese citrus, delicate lemony grapefruit flavour)
I've also had their croissants, which are very rich and doughy. I prefer my croissants to be less greasy and more flaky. But again I say... awesome macarons! Expect items to be on the expensive side, as they are a gourmet patisserie. The staff are always very pleasant and helpful, too.Listed in: Macaron Mania in Toronto & GTA

I came, I saw macarons, I conquered.
The shells are crunchy and the filling is chewy. PERFECT.
Get the caramel sea salt, espresso, and "mystery" macarons.
They worth the price.
TRUST ME.
I'll try the other pastries when I'm done with the macs.
I don't see that happening anytime soon, though ;) -

By far, this is my favorite bakery in Toronto. I first visited earlier this summer, going by a friend's recommendation.
It was love at first bite. Now, my boyfriend and I are regulars here and we are always recommending this hidden gem to all of our friends.
I've just about tried almost all of the cakes in their display cases and I have to say that each and every one has very distinct flavours. You can tell that a lot of careful thought and meticulous work has been put into each piece of cake. The flavours blend together perfectly. It is like heaven in my mouth.
And then there are the macarons. Wow. Crunchy outer coating leading to a luscious, soft centre bursting with flavor. Flavours I'd recommend are mint chocolate and cassis! :) Grab them when you can though because customers scoop them up and buy dozens at a time. Literally.
Oh, and the girls that work there are VERY helpful and pleasant.
What more can I say...I love La Bamboche! -

I really have to agreed on Angie C's insight on La Bamboche's macarons!! This is for the time being the BEST macarons I have eaten as of now...Though it is on a more pricey side ($2.50) but is the largest one I have compare to other bakeries.
The selections here are a little unique compare to other ones, I tried:
Spicy Cocoa
Ume and Sake ( I don't think I see this flavours anywhere!)
They are not overly sweet and in fact Ume and Sake one is a little salty. The one thing I love is how they make this little hollow space in the middle of the macarons so some of the fillings are inside the space. Why I like that?? Great for Sharing.. because I just pull the top and the bottom apart and there 2 equal pieces to share.
Opera de la Passion ($5.20)
All these layers (passion fruit almond joconde/passion fruit buttercream/Chocolate ganche) of different texture.. really remind me of the Chinese dessert I have! Of course this is definitely a lot sweeter and richer! I don't think I can finish one on my own without going into Sugary coma (but at least I am happy!) The dark chocolate with passion fruit filling on the top is such a pleasant and delicious surprise.
La Bamboche now is the to go place for me for macarons and just love how they put their little Japanese twist in their French pastry! -
Review from Tina H.
Still in my search for the best croissant in the Yonge-Eg area, I came here. The girl working said that people say that the croissants are the best in Toronto. Well, that sounds pretty damn good, so I thought I'd try it. They look good on the outside but on the inside they're dry. Personally, I like buttery croissants and this did not deliver. It was more like bread. Definitely better than grocery store croissants but that shouldn't be the standard. She said they're best fresh out of the oven but I got one that was sitting around for 5 hours so maybe it was stale but still, if you're still serving it, it should be good. It wasn't good, unfortunately. I won't be returning here for another croissant. For a good croissant, I like the ones at Manic Coffee and Ezra's Pound but unfortunately both are far from me. The search continues.

I'm glad I don't live or work by this place; if I did, one of two things would happen:
1. La Bamboche would lose its "special treat" novelty.
2. Every penny I had would be squandered away!
The croissants are heavenly. The coffees are good and strong. I have yet to try a macaron, but they look scrumptious.
What's there not to like? Pleasant staff, bright unpretentious atmosphere, nice area. I sat next to two French gentlemen who looked like they had been there for hours, as though they were in someone's living room. They were tucked in with a teapot, mugs and saucers; occasionally asking for more tea or a croissant from barista in their exquisite accents...

This is my favorite bakery.
Never has a cake had renew my have faith in bakeries again. I live in Scarborough so I am surrounded by Chinese bakeries only, now some places have good buns but in the cake area...they all suck terribly. Than the restaurants...they usually only have generic, mass produced, pre-frozen cakes that is just a waste of my calorie intake.
So I was determined to find a place to get decent cakes when I just don't want to whip out the stand mixer. So I tried this place. I had four cakes and a bag of macarons (my friend was paying since it was my birthday).
If I talk about all the cakes I've tried than this thing will be a university essay cause I went back a lot of times. In short the cakes are light and fluffy, exactly like a very smooth and delicate sponge. Mousses are also very light but at the same time creamy and flavorful. The pastries are French with some Japanese influence so everything is not as sweet as usual and the the ingredients really shine. Even though it's not as sweet the flavor is still very prominent. If I eat a strawberry cake the strawberry flavor really hits you.
Highlights: The cakes changes from time to time so unfortunately you might have a favorite cake and never see it again =(. My personal favorite, FAVORITE is the cheesecake with apples. Orgasmic is the only apt word that could describe this cake! The cheese really pairs well with the tartness of the apples. And I love the crust at the bottom, giving it some texture.
Other highlights include, Strawberry Lavender, Greentea, Strawberry Tart, Fraisier (um, spelling might be off), and the breads are really good too! I love the croissant! But generally, most things are worth having a second time!Listed in: Recommendations

One of my favourite bakeries, it's got the best macarons in the city. crunchy in the first bite and creamy and smooth in the center, it dissolves in your mouth. they are also quite sizable, one or two is usually enough to satisfy.
Favourite flavours: sea salt caramel, chocolate, lavender, ume&sake. They do rotate flavours periodically, as every time I visit I notice new flavours and the disappearance of the old.
I've only tried their cake once and it was heavenly. Usually I get sick of cake easily because of their sweetness and richness, but this one was perfectly portioned and subtle. (I got one with yuzu)
I didn't give it full stars because their quiche is HUGELY disappointing (too much egg and bland), and their coffee is just alright, but I definately recommended the more delicate confections. -
Review from Terry P.
La Bambouche is a french bakery with Japanese influences, which definitely makes it interesting. It is just a couple of steps from Yonge Street, but is hidden away a little bit on Manor Road. On nice days they have a couple of tables out front, and it is actually quite peaceful.
Although I've been here a few times, I've only ever had a croissant and a few of the macarons. That's because once I discovered the macarons, I keep going back to try a new flavour. The macarons here are excellent - chewy but soft at the same time, and also flavourful. They are $2.50 I think, but a decent size (as far as macarons go). There are also a wide variety of flavours. The flavours do vary a little, but most of them are there consistently. Some of them are a bit unique for macarons - the mint chocolate for example (which I really like) has a layer of hard mint chocolate in the middle.
I have yet to try the cakes, but after reading the other reivews, I'll be checking one out soon! -

North York, ON
I've been planning to come in here for months, but never found myself in the area. I finally stopped in last week for a late afternoon snack. My friend and I each had a slice of quiche (asparagus & cheddar) - and neither of us was able to finish it. The slice was huge and the quiche was very eggy and heavy.
I also bought a few macarons since every raves about these. My overall impression of them: quite nice - infinitely better than the chalky lumps of sugar they pass off for macarons down at MoRoCo in Yorkville. La Bamboche's macaron's are much larger than I'm used to (Ladurée, Jean-Paul Hévin, Pierre Hermé) and even one on it's own is a complete dessert because they are very sweet.
The quality of the meringue cookie was lovely - moist and a little bit chewy, with a crisp dome and a perfectly risen "foot" and the fillings were very creamy.
Flavours I tried:
Yuzu - (if you don't know what Yuzu is, it's a Japanese citrus fruit) - light and citrusy, a bit too sweet.
Pistachio - mild pistachio flavour, too sweet
Salted Caramel - buttery smooth caramel flavoured cream filling, little surprise of salted caramel inside
Chocolate - decent.
Mango-Passion - the least sweet, and therefore most subtle and enjoyable of the bunch
I'd like to come back sometime to try their cakes. They serve Greg's ice cream too.Listed in: Macaron Worldwide Hunt

I love french pastries and this bakery definitely satisfies the frequent cravings that I have!
The macarons are excellent here. They have slight variations in the flavours they offer each day, but most of them are good. My absolute favourite are the citrus ones (lemon, orange, yuzu), which leaves you salivating after each bite. The lavender macaron is fragrant and the pistachio has a good nutty taste.
The mousse cakes are packed with flavour and makes you savor the luscious richness on your tongue. I highly recommend the passion fruit mousse if you want a tangy flavour.
The prices are a bit steep ($2 per macaron, $4-5 for tiny cakes) but everyone deserves a treat once in a while. -

Macarons (not to be confused with macaroons!) are absolutely my favourite dessert. For my past 2 birthdays, friends have spoiled me with boxes of macarons flown in from Paris or from La Bamboche with every flavour they offer. Since macarons from Paris is too indulgent for everyday (even for me!) La Bamboche is a great local option.
La Bamboche is the perfect place to sit down and catch up with friends and eat some pretty fabulous sweets! They have probably the widest selection of macaron flavours I've seen in the city and while its pretty great, the texture does varies from flavor to flavor. Yuzu is not to be missed and they have lots of flavors you dont see anywhere else like sesame, chestnut, lavender and strawberry balsamic. Aside from macarons, they also have a wide selection of other desserts and bread. Whenever I go, I always get a pot of their organic tea, a piece of cake and 2 macarons...and all that for about $10!
While I don't think they have THE best macarons in the city, they come in close and will remain one of my favourite spots in Toronto. -

Oh la la! This petite patissière is a gem. I have been learning the art of French pastries for a while now, and I know how incredibly difficult it is to make the perfect pâte choux for croissants or a flawless macaron (I have yet to make a perfect one, grrr). This bakery is fantastic. The service is fantastic, the menu options are delectable, the atmosphere is calming ad pleasant. They have soups and drinks, as well as their scrumptious desserts.
There are three or four days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I think...) that they have orders of artisan bread available for pickup. They disappear before they even have a chance to put them on display. They also make their own breads.
When I visited the bakery with my fiancé, we decided to share a few of the desserts I am learning to make. Wow. Although my latest attempts are pretty darn good (if I do say so myself), these little creations were divine. I hope to one day be able to compare my work with that of Christian, Hardy and Stephan. -

I first discovered La Bamboche from browsing through Flickr, searching for a picture of Mont Blanc. When I saw their cakes, I immediately fell in love. It was like love at first sight! La Bamboche is the reason why I fell in love with patisseries and began searching for patisseries in the city. It's like a first love that you'll never forget :)
I got several Macarons, Mont Blanc, Green Tea Sesame Mousse, Cassis Earl Grey, and Opera. Every cake had its own uniqueness and were perfect in their own little way. The Mont Blanc had rum in the chestnut cream and I got a little red from eating it ;) The Green Tea was ridiculously rich and strong; it almost seemed as if I was drinking matcha tea. So yes, it's a good thing! The Cassis had such an exploding, sour flavour; it was like a party in my mouth! The earl grey component was also very rich and I could really taste the tea. Opera is made of espresso and chocolate. The flavour isn't as surprising as the others but it was delicious and not overly sweet. I don't know what else to say but the majority of my love goes towards La Bamboche! -

4 stars for their caramel sea salt macarons, the best I've had in TO for sure! For a great croissant, head over to Cafe Jules on Mt. Pleasant south of Eglinton, or their sister cafe, La Boheme on Yonge, north of Eglinton, and if you've got a car, head over to Rahier on Bayview.

Hidden South of Eglinton just East of Yonge St this little bakery-cafe boasts a fine selection of all baked goodness that you came to expect from a fine French patisserie. In addition to breads, croissants and exquisite cakes and pastries they could also delight you with a made-to-order sandwich and feature a nice selection of their own ice-cream. Definitely an equal in the line-up of the finest French bakeries of TO, and home to a famously delectable Swan.

I've been going here for years, and the croissants have been getting smaller and smaller, while the prices have increased. Sometimes, they are even borderline burnt, which is quite off putting for something that is supposed to be buttery and soft. Their macarons have a 50/50 chance of being good or really bad - the shells taste stale, and you can't taste the almonds. I've purchased cakes from there in the past, and some of them were still frozen, even though they advertise all their products as being fresh. I guess "fresh" is a matter of opinion. Their espresso is overpriced and tastes burnt, which hurts especialyl since a alrge latte comes to nearly $6 after taxes. Their coffee is Van Houtte, tastes watery and is never fresh unless you arrive bright and early in the morning. The ice cream is the best thing they sell there - and it's Greg's ice cream. La Bamboche used to be amazing, and it seemed like they used to care, but now it just feels like they are only after making a quick buck with overpriced stale products.
