I love this yarn shop. I'm a bit of a shit knitter. Not that I knit shit but rather knit like shit. I have few real skills, but I still enjoy it. And boy can I knit uncomplicated scarves!
I love LK because they have a great selection, carry local yarns and have lots of sale items around the shop that will please. Their staff are friendly and very helpful - always willing to talk about your project and give you a bit of encouragement.
To offer a frank comparison to the Loop, LK simply has far more stock, a better price range (read: you don't have to take out a loan to knit a sweater) and chummier staff.
And the shop itself is wonderful with the old wood floors and proximity to other marvelous shops and restaurants.
Go! Knit! -

I have much more fun at LK Yarns than I do The Loop. They have a larger selection, more acrylic options (which is a four letter word for some knitters) and local yarns too. While they could use more non-metal needle selection, they do have a wide range of notions.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeble, and can offer suggestions if you're stuck picking a suitable yarn for a project. When shopping specifically for local yarn, I find they have a better and more reasonably priced selection than at The Loop. This is my preferred LYS in HRM for sure. -

LK Yarns is a great knit shop!
It has every type and variety and brand of yarn one could ever imagine! It's definitely not your typical yarn shop just on that instance alone. It's got a great location down town across from a new Starbucks and it's perfect for picking up some yarn grabbing some needles and going across the street for a coffee and curling up with knitting.Listed in: Fantastic Fibres!

This isn't your typical (dare I say it) chi chi yarn shop. Don't get me wrong, I fall hook, line and sinker for funky boutique shops with a purpose, but I must say, knitting does appear to be making an inordinate come back!
For this reason, I was impressed to pop into 'L K Yarns' yesterday. This is the yarn shop your Grandma probably goes to. Aisles of variety depending on the type of yarn you want to use. A pleasant sales lady greeted me as soon as I entered willing to fill my order asap. Places like this really make me want to take up knitting (again...). -

As one of the only TWO knit shops in Halifax, LK Yarns is to The Loop as Grandma is to young adult grandchild. When I entered the store, I was kindly greeted and offered some assistance, but I decided to explore on my own. The rows upon rows of stacked displays (ok, maybe just three or four rows) overflowed with a well organized multitude of yarn. Most of it was natural fibre, some hand-dyed, but all reasonably priced. The entire place was absolutely crammed full, making the Loop seem stark and empty by comparison.
Near the back of the store, I also found some small amounts of hand-dyed roving, and beautiful handmade knitting needles with decorative tops. Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to splurge on a pair of those! -

If you are ever looking for yarn then check at the Yarn Shop as you will find what you are looking for. Neatly stacked and sorted depending on what style and grad that you are looking for.
Sweaters are on display for ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Weaved baskets line the shelves which are hand made. This is a speciality shop and only really designed for those who are knitters. -

L K Yarns is a dream come true. If you love Yarn , go here. Although I am not a knitter, I have knitted one sweater my whole life, it actually came out great. I did it as a gift for a BF I had, young, big mistake.
He actually took a wool sweater and through it in the wash, but then through it in the dryer. Do I need to explain anymore! Yes, it shrunk about two sizes smaller. So that was the last of my knitting ventures.
However, this place has everything , every colour and beautiful yarns. It almost tempted me to go back and give it another try. -

I love yarn shops that are small and crammed with gorgeous textures and colours and LK Yarns does that in spades. Not only do they have every imaginable texture and colour, they have a gazillion patterns and pattern books.
Even better....if that's possible, is the fact that the staff are so very, very helpful. They even helped me figure out how to knit a pattern for a sweater that I didn't even buy there - or the wool either for that matter.
Now it's the only place I shop for wool, accessories and patterns. -

I've ventured into L K Yarns on a few occasions, leaving with bundles of unspun, colorful wools for my felting projects.
I can't tell you much about the yarn or the knitting supplies, but I do know that they have a nice selection of local and import wools, great for those who love to needle or wet felt.
Last time I was in, I bought some gorgeous creamy virgin wool from Nova Scotia, as well as some lovely wool from New Zealand, dyed locally.
The service is friendly and helpful and the products are top-notch and well priced. L K Yarns is a cozy shop, great for all projects wool related. -

I've been knitting for about 6 years, and am kind of a big nerd about it. It follows then that I have a few opinions about knitting stores. To me, the ideal knitting store is one like LK Yarns. The store is small, but its inventory is impressive. Along with dozens (I'm trying to do a mental estimate to decide if it's fair to say 'hundreds'...) of diverse yarn choices the ladies at LK stock other fine items including roving, needles, patterns, felting kits, notions and - importantly - buttons. It is damn hard to find a good button source in Halifax. I'm not saying LK will be your new one stop button shop, but at least they've got a few boxes and are helping to fill the void of button vendors. I'm not a big pattern browser, but I have taken note of the many binders which are categorized by item type, and look like they collectively hold hundreds of ideas. Perfect if you're just starting out and looking for inspiration.
Also great is that LK's owners are kind and helpful. They've patiently waited for me to make a decision as I debate which shade of brown my next sweater will be, and are always helping out other customers while I browse. No pressure here, even if you're just squishing yarn for half an hour.
LK is definitely worth the trek (from my place) up to the Hydrostone. If you live close by, lucky you.
