    Traveling in Vancouver:

Melisa took care of my partner and I and we couldn't be happier.  We are here on business and fly out in a few days for Vacation...We needed our hair cut and we had no idea where to go!

I felt the energy of this salon the minute I walked in and I am glad we connected.

Melissa was fun, energetic, and kept the conversation going.  I wish we lived here! she did an amazing job and we can't wait to go visit her again.

I came here in desperate need of a haircut. My last haircut (not at L'atelier) was supposed to give me layers, and I walked away with two - basically a mushroom cut on the top of my head and then the bottom layer was long. Not what I wanted. Anyway, I came to L'atelier hoping they could fix my hair, and touch up my color.

My stylist was Tonya and she was AMAZING. She gave me a really thorough consult when I sat down and I could tell she both understood what I wanted and what the problem was. She knew it would be a tricky cut to fix, but she seemed very optimistic about it - and excited to try a challenge. That comforted me.

Tonya was very meticulous with my color, and it turned out even better than I could have imagined. She explained what she was doing each step of the way which I appreciated it.

My hair turned out FABULOUS. Tonya was able to fix my layers while keeping most of my length, and she made my hair feel light and healthy. She also recommended some new products for me to use to help protect my hair, and showed me exactly how to use them (which was very helpful).

I really enjoyed the experience in the salon. I will definitely be coming back!

I've never had a stylist that I've wanted to go back to time and again. That all changed last night after spending 5 hours with Melissa Jones.

I was bored with my hair which has been for my entire life LONG and CURLY. I typically like streaks of bold color but my hair tends to fade color fast and always ends up looking like a mess.

I had gone into the salon around lunchtime to make an appointment in person. I was able to grab a timeslot for the same evening which was awesome. Came back promptly at 5 and Melissa and I started chatting about color options. I then confided in her that I might be open to an impulsive yet drastic change. I've never seen someone so excited and thrilled to be entrusted with reshaping and recreating my look. I knew I was in the right hands.

Melissa handled my hair cut with absolute professionalism and provided me with great hair care tips throughout the entire process, but at the same time we had wonderful casual conversation that never felt forced or awkward.

The salon itself was super cozy and inviting. If you know from my past reviews, I HATE salons. I don't enjoy sitting in front of a mirror with all the glamorous trendy stylists whipping about and all the photos of crazy haired super models. Instead, this tiny salon is warm and cute. Local artists' paintings for sale along the walls, hanging framed mirrors that look like they came from a yard sale instead of a salon supplier. Great music. Nice smelling products -- many of them local products from BC.

As if that wasn't enough, they also offer you coffee, tea, water, or WINE! Um YES, this is the place for me.

And Melissa -- well I hope she stays at L'Atelier for a very long time so I can keep going back to her -- although after the extreme makeover she so brilliantly gave me, I just might follow her anywhere.

My once mid-back length hair is now a super short wedge cut highlighting my curls with streaks of vibrant red. I love my hair.

I've been here 3 times now and all 3 times have been super enjoyable, plus I walked out all 3 times with a beautiful haircut and color.  It took me this long to write a review because I didn't want to give up my best hair secret - my hairstylist, Janita!

For Yaletown, they are one of the least pretentious places without having to sacrifice quality and great service.  You get the full meal deal of a high-end salon without having to pay an arm and a leg to get it.  While there are cheaper places out there, the rates here are more than reasonable for a fantastic haircut.

They have all the frills too.  From wine, lattes, tea, fresh robes to change into for your cut and head massages, you get the whole high-end salon experience here without the Yaletown snobbishness one might go through at other salons.

Everyone here is really nice too and all the stylists have really cool hairstyles you can admire while you are visiting.  A great self-maintenance gem of a salon right in the heart of Yaletown.  Sweet!

I was directed to book an appointment with Travis when I requested a junior stylist. For $40 plus tax I received...

    - a consultation (I wanted something pretty basic but I got the impression he was well versed in more elaborate styles)
    - shampoo, condition and thorough scalp massage
    - the haircut itself
    - back of neck straight razor shave
    - another rinse to get rid of any hair clippings
    - styling product, and blow dry.

No bad for $44 and change. Especially when you add the fact they'll make you a real latte during your visit.

Definitely a good value, even for a basic haircut type of guy like myself.

So, I'm the type of person who isn't afraid to try a few different hairstyles. In my day, I've had everything from can-sit-on-it long, to pixie cut, to asymmetrical hair. Over the last year or so, I had been growing out my 'do, and as a result it looked terribly boring.

I was looking for a creative stylist to give me a new look, and I was referred to Michelle. I decided that I would give her complete creative control, as I wanted my new look to be a suprise. During our consultation, she had a lot of great ideas, so I knew she was a good choice. When it came time to have the cut done, she certainly didn't disappoint.

Michelle spent about an hour and 15 minutes cutting my hair with precision and care. She gave me the cutest '40s style fringe, and a perfect bob (see profile picture). At the end, the final bill came to $56 -a STEAL for a great haircut in this city!

The salon itself was unpretentious, and it seemed that everyone was having a good time. They were blasting '80s tunes, which I thought was awesome. The music made me want to do a chair-dance, but then I decided that would be a bad idea considering scissors were hovering near my head.

Oh yeah, I got to drink red wine while my hair was being cut. How cool is THAT?

After my cut, I was kicking around Gastown and I was stopped by a complete stranger. They said, "Well, don't you just have the cutest haircut EVER!" Why yes, yes I do, thank you. Nice work, Michelle. I'll see you again in a few months!

I think it was almost half a year after I moved to Vancouver before I finally went in search of a new hair dresser (before I kept flying back to Edmonton to get my hair cut).

Then I came across Yves Decary and his crew.  Great salon.  My stylist: Janita Hoban, is the bomb.  It doesn't hurt that she's cute, but she listens, is hip, keeps up with trends and techniques, and makes my hair rockin' hot after she's done with it.  Which I felt was quite awesome considering I have "asian hair" which is stiff and sometimes difficult to create smooth lines with.

A very relaxed feeling, decor is very french and artistic, they keep the place extremely clean; when they're waiting for a color to set or whatnot, staff are straightening out displays, wiping things down, sweeping up hair, so that the salon always maintains a nice clean and orderly look.

Now I've been seeing Janita almost two years, and still super psyched after every time she works with my hair, whether it be a simple cut, blowout, or color.

What brought me in to try them out, even though it was quite a bold statement, was the sign they had outside their door that said:

"We cut your hair to suit your face and bone structure and colour your hair to compliment your skin tone and enhance your eyes."

    And they do.

I love the entire crew at L'Atelier Hair salon. Not only is my own stylist Colette amazing but I've referred so many people to all the other stylists at the salon including Michelle and Janita and everyone is very pleased with the level of professionalism, creativity and ultimate results with their hair.  The vibe in the salon is awesome with great music, friendly, professional staff and always a treat to make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable. I also like the fact that L'Atelier is actively involved in the Yaletown community incorporating art, music, cheese and wine for various events. This is a place you'll love for quality hair salon services but also new friendships!

Down in the trendiest hotspot of Yaletown, you'll find a happy little bunch at L'atelier Hair Boutique
*so welcoming & creative with uber skills*
I felt right at home in the romantically scarlett studio.
    'Glass of chardonnay, darling?'
Wasn't long before I knew I was in the right hands with my hairstylist, Michelle.
Prices are absolutely reasonable for such decadent treatment.
oh yes, there's no skimping on the scalp, neck massage ahhh..
Michelle is just as much good company as she is a star*stylist expert in perfecting what I wanted. Bangs with flat iron finish.
My hair was silky smooth with the excellent products L'atelier provides.
oh and my favorite- the double duo-blowdry & flatiron--two therapists attending to my locks at once.
I spent a good couple hours there for $50!!, seems sinful I know. bonus*no tax when you pay in cash

i've been seeing Michelle for over a year. I was initially skeptical as she
is quite young. But her expertise in styling my 'difficult' hair has made me
a loyal client. I have had tons of compliments from both colleagues and
strangers alike. The simple yet flattering hair style Michelle has given me
has taken years off my face (better than botox!).

Before seeing Michelle, I didn't think it was possible for me to have 'sleek'
looking hair. I have sent a colleague of mine to see her as well.

For those of you that like a boutique, personalized experienced in a cool environment L'Atelier is an excellent choice. Your hair and your personal style will be in great hands! Their team have a knack for nailing colour and style. I first stumbled upon L'Atelier when I moved my business to Yaletown five years ago. Walking by their salon you immediately get the feeling that you will enjoy yourself. I love my stylist Colette and the rest of the team!

Just had a hair appointment with Janita and I was super impressed. After not having had a haircut/colour in 6 months, she worked her magic and gave me what I consider to be the perfect colour and cut. She listened to me explain what my hair does and really understood what I wanted. I walked out happy and glad to have my hair back. Thank you Janita, I'll be back for sure!

I had been thinking about switching stylists and when the girls at Cranberries mentioned this place I figured I would give it a try. I'm so happy I did! The stylist I had did a great job. I loved that she really listened to what I wanted and didn't just do what she felt like doing, like some stylists I've had in the past. I'm glad I've found a new salon I can trust.
