I've been here 3 times now and all 3 times have been super enjoyable, plus I walked out all 3 times with a beautiful haircut and color. It took me this long to write a review because I didn't want to give up my best hair secret - my hairstylist, Janita!
For Yaletown, they are one of the least pretentious places without having to sacrifice quality and great service. You get the full meal deal of a high-end salon without having to pay an arm and a leg to get it. While there are cheaper places out there, the rates here are more than reasonable for a fantastic haircut.
They have all the frills too. From wine, lattes, tea, fresh robes to change into for your cut and head massages, you get the whole high-end salon experience here without the Yaletown snobbishness one might go through at other salons.
Everyone here is really nice too and all the stylists have really cool hairstyles you can admire while you are visiting. A great self-maintenance gem of a salon right in the heart of Yaletown. Sweet! -

I was directed to book an appointment with Travis when I requested a junior stylist. For $40 plus tax I received...
- a consultation (I wanted something pretty basic but I got the impression he was well versed in more elaborate styles)
- shampoo, condition and thorough scalp massage
- the haircut itself
- back of neck straight razor shave
- another rinse to get rid of any hair clippings
- styling product, and blow dry.
No bad for $44 and change. Especially when you add the fact they'll make you a real latte during your visit.
Definitely a good value, even for a basic haircut type of guy like myself. -

So, I'm the type of person who isn't afraid to try a few different hairstyles. In my day, I've had everything from can-sit-on-it long, to pixie cut, to asymmetrical hair. Over the last year or so, I had been growing out my 'do, and as a result it looked terribly boring.
I was looking for a creative stylist to give me a new look, and I was referred to Michelle. I decided that I would give her complete creative control, as I wanted my new look to be a suprise. During our consultation, she had a lot of great ideas, so I knew she was a good choice. When it came time to have the cut done, she certainly didn't disappoint.
Michelle spent about an hour and 15 minutes cutting my hair with precision and care. She gave me the cutest '40s style fringe, and a perfect bob (see profile picture). At the end, the final bill came to $56 -a STEAL for a great haircut in this city!
The salon itself was unpretentious, and it seemed that everyone was having a good time. They were blasting '80s tunes, which I thought was awesome. The music made me want to do a chair-dance, but then I decided that would be a bad idea considering scissors were hovering near my head.
Oh yeah, I got to drink red wine while my hair was being cut. How cool is THAT?
After my cut, I was kicking around Gastown and I was stopped by a complete stranger. They said, "Well, don't you just have the cutest haircut EVER!" Why yes, yes I do, thank you. Nice work, Michelle. I'll see you again in a few months!Listed in: From Blah to Beautiful

After booking Michelle for my husband's hair (and seeing incredible results--the cut she gave him make him look so stylish!), I had the courage to go in for a colour. I have big trust issues with handing my hair over to colourists--it's light red, and I almost never leave the salon happy with the results. Michelle got it perfectly. She has extensive knowledge, and she listens. She understands all types of hair (curly, in my case). She's very talented, and I feel lucky to have found her in this city.
The salon is comfortable and hospitable--a place where you can feel at ease and get the service you came in for. So happy to have this place a few blocks from me. -

I think it was almost half a year after I moved to Vancouver before I finally went in search of a new hair dresser (before I kept flying back to Edmonton to get my hair cut).
Then I came across Yves Decary and his crew. Great salon. My stylist: Janita Hoban, is the bomb. It doesn't hurt that she's cute, but she listens, is hip, keeps up with trends and techniques, and makes my hair rockin' hot after she's done with it. Which I felt was quite awesome considering I have "asian hair" which is stiff and sometimes difficult to create smooth lines with.
A very relaxed feeling, decor is very french and artistic, they keep the place extremely clean; when they're waiting for a color to set or whatnot, staff are straightening out displays, wiping things down, sweeping up hair, so that the salon always maintains a nice clean and orderly look.
Now I've been seeing Janita almost two years, and still super psyched after every time she works with my hair, whether it be a simple cut, blowout, or color.
What brought me in to try them out, even though it was quite a bold statement, was the sign they had outside their door that said:
"We cut your hair to suit your face and bone structure and colour your hair to compliment your skin tone and enhance your eyes."
And they do. -

Just had a hair appointment with Janita and I was super impressed. After not having had a haircut/colour in 6 months, she worked her magic and gave me what I consider to be the perfect colour and cut. She listened to me explain what my hair does and really understood what I wanted. I walked out happy and glad to have my hair back. Thank you Janita, I'll be back for sure!

i've been seeing Michelle for over a year. I was initially skeptical as she
is quite young. But her expertise in styling my 'difficult' hair has made me
a loyal client. I have had tons of compliments from both colleagues and
strangers alike. The simple yet flattering hair style Michelle has given me
has taken years off my face (better than botox!).
Before seeing Michelle, I didn't think it was possible for me to have 'sleek'
looking hair. I have sent a colleague of mine to see her as well. -

For those of you that like a boutique, personalized experienced in a cool environment L'Atelier is an excellent choice. Your hair and your personal style will be in great hands! Their team have a knack for nailing colour and style. I first stumbled upon L'Atelier when I moved my business to Yaletown five years ago. Walking by their salon you immediately get the feeling that you will enjoy yourself. I love my stylist Colette and the rest of the team!

I had been thinking about switching stylists and when the girls at Cranberries mentioned this place I figured I would give it a try. I'm so happy I did! The stylist I had did a great job. I loved that she really listened to what I wanted and didn't just do what she felt like doing, like some stylists I've had in the past. I'm glad I've found a new salon I can trust.
