I have to say I'm pretty sure this is the best pizza I have had in NYC so far, and I've been on a mission this past year to try as many pizza places as possible.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PESTO/PISTACHIO/ARUGULA PIZZA. DELICIOUS. And thank God their ingredients are organic so I don't feel disgusting after.

"F.R.E.S.H., fresh fresh fresh, that's FRESH!"
The ingredients on the 12' inch  Margarita and the 12' 4 romaggi!
Went on a weekday for a early lunch and was not disappointed! It was not crowded and atmosphere was pretty cool.  The Margarita Hit the spot! Simplicity sometimes is best and this place does the Margarita well! The 4 Romaggi was stellar too and I like this place.  I'm definitely going to come back to try the other pies and pastas!

It has been some time since our last visit to L'asso. We were in the neighborhood and gave the place another try. I think they've changed their menu in the last year because I remember some kind of meatballs were in the menu last year; and they are not now.
The quality of the ingredients they use is good, and their thin crust pies are also OK. The small ones comes in a round shape and medium and long ones comes in long rectangular shapes; which is cool for sharing.
They have mexican soda, we tried the apple one; it was really good, too.
Yes there are better thin crust pizza places in the city but this place delivers what it promises which is a decent meal with good thin crust, brick oven pizza.

My husband and I went to L'asso for lunch today. We ordered the lunch special -- one small pizza and one salad for two people at $20.

The Arugula salad (with bacon pieces, candied walnuts, sliced pears, and ricotta cheese) that we had was very delicious.

However, the Margherita pizza seemed underbaked. The pie was just flat, without bubbling or charred crust. The Mozzarella cheese was not melted at all, so I was chewing on big pieces of very firm Mozzarella. It felt weird.

Overall, it was still a good thin crust pizza, but definitely not as good as Motorino. My husband jokingly said it was like eating a burrito.

Picking up my girlfriend near her job one day and deciding we should get some food we started walking around the neighborhood. Walking in Chinatown made us hungry but honestly I wasn't in the mood for chinese food or dim sum. I wanted something different but I didn't know what. I can be a picky eater at times, and yes my girlfriend has called me out on that many a time.

She told me about L'asso, a quirky hipster pizza joint that make good thin crust pizza, made to order none the less. Being that I'm from the area and have never heard of this place if crazy but I'm happy she took me none the less.

Walking in and noticing all the beautiful photos and art work on the walls made it feel more like a gallery then a pizza joint, but I liked that. We sat down and looked at the menu. I ordered a wheat beer, which name I could never pronounce non the less write but it was a good refreshing wheat beer.

For food we started with a four piece bruschetta that was covered with a slice of pear, blue cheese, and walnuts with a little honey drizzle on top, can you say OMFG GOOD!!! The sweet meshed perfectly with the pungent honey and the walnuts made a perfect texture contrast to the pear and cheese.

For the meal we order the small Margarita pizza. Trust me a small is enough for two people, with just enough room left for dessert. The pizza came out and it smelled fresh right off the bat. The tomato sauce tasted fresh and not canned. The thing crust, was delicious, but because of all the sauce it was soggy a little bit and didn't hold up well. But the pizza was delicious!!! Very good quality pizza here. Oh and they sell by the pie and not by the slice.

Will I go back? Yes, but next time I will try a different pizza.

Pretty tasty.  Small and quaint.  The wine prices for a decent bottle of red were totally reasonable.  The service was good and we were seated right away.  I had the pear carpaccio which wasn't very exciting.  The pears seemed under ripened and would have been better marinaded in something to bring out their sweetness.  I sampled the steak and a white pizza with truffle oil and both were respectable.

Literally, THE BEST pizza I have ever eaten!!

I'm a pizza monster. I love pizza, I cannot emphasize this enough. If you do not understand how much I love pizza by this point, I will jump through your monitor and body slam you!!

I tried the margarita DOC pizza, it is their trademark pie. It was made with the most delicious tomato sauce. Keep in mind, wrestlers don't typically use words like 'delicious', so this should tell you how amazing this pizza tastes.  It had a lot of high quality local organic tomatoes, fresh basil and buffalo mozzarella cheese.

    Simple, high quality, local ingredients.

I was also lucky enough to try the mascarpone pizza. A blend of portobello mushrooms, mascarpone and gorgonzola cheeses and truffle oil. Simply put, the cheese melts in your mouth. Literally! Combine that sensation with tasty portobello mushrooms and you have a world class pizza. This pizza will knock you on your ass with the sensational taste. The last time I was hit so hard, Bobby Heenan had to wake me up.

This establishment, l'asso's is the world champion of pizza if you ask this old wrestler.

Two years since my first visit, with multiple meals here in between, and the quality hasn't lost its shine.

The pizza's are first rate; With fresh ingredients, great flavor combo's, thin crisp nicely charred crust.  The pastas are tasty and filling.  The salads are great and large enough to share.  The wine list is short but has some hidden gems.

The room is warm and festive and the staff accommodating.

This hipster enclave is my pick over its pizza competitor down the block.

Go with the Margarita DOC with Arugula and Pancetta salad, topped off with one of their craft beers - Six Point or a Victory - and you've got yourself a good meal.

For those of you in the hood before 5pm, they have $5 special (slice with a beer) - that can't be beat.

Service is casual and reliable.  Though music can be loud at times.

Ambience is dark with an eye for art that adorns the walls (which revolves out to feature different artists - a nice touch.

Great food! Pizza is thin crust but don't let the servers fool you, a small pizza can definitely feed 2! Especially if you get their delicious bruschetta!

The bruschetta was just perfect! And we were given an appetizer of flat bear drilled in olive oil, pesto and olives and our meal was already perfect.

To end the meal, MUST HAVE SMORE pizza! If you only get that, you won't regret it! Great friendly staff and great food!

I was so excited to give this "acclaimed" organic pizza haven a try. After hearing so many things about it, I raced down to experience it for myself. Unfortunately, the service element certainly did not live up to expectation. The pie itself, was just OK. I sat down at 5pm in anticipation of the freshest most organic pie yet.  Twenty minutes after placing my order, a family came in and placed and order after me. They are served and I am still waiting an hour later, My pie arrived salty and the cheese is just coldly grated across the top. By that time, I had to opt for a to go box. It had been over and hour and time was of the essence. They discounted my tab slightly, but not enough to return. I wish I would have gone to Lombardi's across the street. Lesson learned~

L'asso is charming, brightly lit, boasts dapper wait staff, and they do serve some delicious tomato sauce. What has me raving about them though is their gluten free menu. Their g/f pizza crust is amazing. It's light and crispy and doesn't suffer from the crumbly or chalky problems that plague so many wheat-free options.

I went for the pizza and wasn't disappointment. Tried a cheese-free/wheat-free pizza and even then it was delicious, with amazingly fresh tomatoes (for it being mid-winter) and the perfect touch of fresh basil. They also offer several delicious sounding gluten free pasta dishes (I so want to go back for their pesto pasta) and decadent salads.

    The brunch also sounds superb.

For such a small space, it was full of the noise of lots of babies, so it's very child-friendly.

Went here for the first time. And probably the last time, too.
A small pizza, a 12" margherita  with soppressata (an Italian sausage) , cost me, drumroll please, $22 without tax and tip.

4.5, I honestly want to round it up to the 5, but my friends talked me out of it. The crust on this pizza is perfect. It's not too thin and not too thick. Sometimes when I eat really thin crust pizza it tastes like I am eating tomatoes and cheese on a cracker (e.g., Grimaldi's, Numero 28), but this was not the case. We ordered one small pie and one medium pie to share among three people and it was just the right amount of food.

My favorite pizza was the Albondiga, which was a pie with meatballs, onions and mozzarella. The other medium pie was split. Half was was a white pie with mushrooms on it (Tartuffo) and the other half had cherry tomatoes and smoked mozzarella (Affumicato). The Affumicato side was awesome and the Tartuffo side held its own. The Tartuffo side had a few too many 'shrooms on it for my taste and was kind of bland.

Other than the mediocre mushroom pie the dinner was excellent. The service was quick and really friendly as well as super helpful in making some tough ordering decisions. L'asso has quite a few pizza options and all of them sound amazing. I am looking forward to coming back and getting the "New York deep dish." Which sounds really good. Hopefully the next time I try to get into Parm there will be another 40 minute wait so I will be forced into heading to L'asso.

Came here with friends after work one night (and after passing on the 40 minute wait at Parm)

We were not at all disappointed. The pizza style is exactly the same as Numero 28, rectangular and thin crust, coming in three sizes. We tried three pizza combinations -- the Albondiga (meatballs, mozzarella), the Tartuffo (mushroom, portobello pesto, mozzarella, and truffles), and the Affumicato (smoked mozzarello, tomato sauce).

I'm usually not crazy about thin crust (I think it tastes a little too papery), but this pizza was the perfect thickness.  It was crispy but also light and doughy simultaneously.

The Albondiga was by far the best one-- the meatballs were delicious, and the cheese was fresh and delicious.

The service was excellent-- hipster waiters consistently came over to check on us and gave us good recommendations. Definitely try this place if you like thin crust pizza!

Small, nice vibe, with very fresh indigents in a large selection of pizzas they offer.  Love the fresh mozzarella and thin crust.   The outside walls have nice piainted murals.  The tables are squizzed together but that's ok in NY.  The only complaint is that the pizza was not very hot.

L'asso really has character, and I dig that, so I really wish I could give it more stars.  But it is so hard to break from my mantra of keepin' it real, so based purely on the food, 3 is all it gets for now. The breakdown...

The L'asso salad and its components read awesomely but somehow didn't translate into eating.  Note that I write this in hindsight of my rabid hunger at the time, because despite this realization, we still managed to eat practically (save for a few stray pistachios and lettuce morsels) the whole thing.  After much pondering, I am going to chalk it up to not being able to get all the ingredients into one bite.  The pistachios were especially difficult to capture and always wound up on my my fork alone, resting perilously between two prongs. Maybe if they had some kind of sticky coating, or the dressing was gooeyer, or a more substantial lettuce, like butter or romaine?  Who knows.  I love a great salad, probably more than any other food, so I really wanted this one to win me over too.

Where L'asso earns its stars are the meatballs. They were the bomb, as was the marinara sauce that accompanied them.  I found myself dipping any and every carb on the table into this sauce (pause?).

Also sad to say that I was disappointed by the Tartufo pizza.  Billed by our waiter as the hands-down best pizza, I found it a bit bland and not as mushroom-y and earthy as expected.  However,  the Dante was the bomb - salty, savory, and the whole of the components was definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

The service was lovely and something about the energy of the place really rubbed me the right way, but I wish I liked the pizza and salad more. In any event, I'm definitely going to give this place another try.

Not sure what the rave is all about.  Went couple of times.. it's just OKAY, it's a fancier pizzeria... but I don't like to pay for overpriced pizza when I have lots of choices in NYC and I finally know how to make pizza!

Aside from the mural outside the restaurant, I don't know what else is special about Lasso.

PS:  Because the bathroom is very close to the table (at least next to the one we were sitting, they need to put a GOOD air freshener!)

Got the marscapone/portebello pie and the l'asso salad. I enjoyed the salad but it's not worth $14 as it was nothing special. The pizza was reallly salty and paper thin pizza is not my cup of tea. Yes, I thought I was eating the pizza box.

Mascarpone, truffle oil, mushroom pizza and Margarita pizza with buffalo cheese

I am giving this place 2 because personally, their specialty pizzas are not worth the cost. I have to admit that their menu selection is quite exotic, but definitely not worth the money for the portion. For a medium with split of two pizza style came out to 27 bucks without tax/ tip.

Personally, their red sauce had too much olive taste, and crust was too thin. Their Mascarpone , truffle oil, mushroom pizza was rich, but too much salt and my stomach felt a little queasy afterwards because the pizza actually had TOO MUCH truffle oil. I shouldn't complain since the ingredient is pricey, but it overpowered everything and it made the pizza a little too greasy.

If you are in the mood to try something exotic and don't mind spending the money, go try it. But if you just want regular NY pizza, I'd go somewhere else.

L'asso is like that really charming asshole that you once dated.  You knew a bit about him before you even met - he's cute, he's Italian and he's Gluten free (only if you're into that), which really impresses your cousin who happens to be pickier than you are.

He charms you immediately because everyone seems to love him and he smells absolutely unbelievable.  He offers you gifts before you even go out on a first date (water and really addicting pita bread with garlic and olive oil).  But then things start to go downhill.  He tells you he has the entire package, but can't seem to offer you what you're looking for (a full bar).  Then he shows up late for your first dinner date when you're starving, salivating over the thought of Pizza Marinara.  But he calls; he offers you a free salad and drinks while you wait for him.  Sure, you'll take it, but it doesn't change the fact that he forgot about you.  You want to yell at him, but you can't.  There's just something about him.

And then he finally, finally shows up and everything is divine.  It is exactly what you wanted - he offers tons of flavor with the perfect amount of sweetness.  You end the date happily, but you know you can't get serious with him.  He's too much of a tease.  Yet deep down, you know you will try again, hoping what every girl hopes - that you'll be the one to eventually change him for the better.

Not too sure how people can compare L'asso with Lombardi's. I really like the concept, the layout is great, oven looks nice and can appreciate the cahoonas it must have taken to park a pizzeria a block from Lombardi's. I really wanted to love this place but the pizza just fell short of being great. I ordered the tartuffo and she ordered the sausage and mushroom, neither was great and I have had much better pizza many times. While this place maybe a mention on the Top 100 list it does not come close to Lombardi's or the top dogs.

They provided free Mediterranean appetizer consisting of baked pitas  with marinated olives.
My friend and i ordered an arugula to start and it was huge! it was filled with pear, candied walnut, slight oil dressing. Then we ordered a half/half medium pizza. One half was their famous margerita DOC and we got the san danielle which had prosciutto. Next time we will  just get the margerita DOC because it was really delicious . Instead of a circular shape, the pizza came in a rectangle. interesting eh.

Last minute decision to order pizza to go and yelp brought me here. I was in New York and I had to have pizza.

Margherita D.O.C. is what everyone raved about and that's what we got. Twenty minutes later, the amazing pie (can you still call it a pie if it's oval?) was brought to us outside.

The crust was a little softer than I had wanted, because it was inside a pizza box for a few minutes. The crust would probably be on point if it was dine in. After the first bite, I was in pizza heaven for a couple seconds. It had the most amazing sauce I've ever had on a pizza. Everything on top of the slice was fresh and just right.

I can't wait until I get a chance to sit down at L'asso, enjoy more awesome pizza, and update this to 5 stars.

A trip to New York is not complete without at least one slice of pizza.

I'll say it: pizza sucks in Philly. For the most part, anyway. Pizza is the food I could for every meal, every day for the rest of my life. If I were given the choice, I would no doubt have to relocate. And Lasso is where I'd be.

Okay, I'm being dramatic. I know there's amazing pizza all over the city but this was the option I was given this weekend. And it was glorious. L'asso was crowded so I knew I was in the right place.

The Margherita D.O.C. that I ordered (to go) had the most wonderful tomato sauce I think I've ever tasted. All of the ingredients were fresh - the sauce, the buffalo mozzarella, the basil, the oregano. The crust is thin, which in my mind is synonymous with "freaking awesome."

A great place that if anybody is from Gainesville, Florida gives off the vibe of the Jones Eastside on a higher Italian scale. Had the Linguini Mare. Had a lot of seafood for all you seafood lovers and also had a Prophet Pistachio, the waiter said it was one of their most recently popular pizzas. Tastes really good and the small portion is actually pretty big.

It has a great ambiance and their black cherry limonade is very tasty. Try their herb German brionade (sp?) as well! :)

Okay I admit  only was interested in L'asso because of the gluten free pizza. But here's what I thought: the place clearly has the Lower Manhattan vibe, lacks any pretension (read: sophistication) but WOW the pizza was amazing. My husband and daughter tried my gluten free margarita pizza and all agreed it was the best GF pie we'd ever tasted. In fact, only the crust (obviously) different. The sauce was evident (I loved the sauce!!!), the cheese was tops! We' ll be back next time we're in Lower Manhattan!

Something changed. I used to love this place. For the last four years of my life I was devoted and brought many other converts to L'asso.

I just went today (last time was about four months ago), and something has changed with them. It's just not the same anymore. It feels and tastes more "commercial." The tomato soup used to be awesome, but today it tasted like canned soup. The pizza used to be so sloppy and delicious and made with love, but today it felt so artificial, looked so perfectly round. And when the waitress brought it out, she asked if I would like any toppings. I did a double take and couldn't answer her.

I don't know what happened, man. Perhaps with the new East Village location open, they decided to pull back and genericize a bit. I don't know... but I will say in all honesty that I am sad. Now it only gets the dreaded "A-OK" Yelp rating from me. I'm sorry, guys.

It was raining, late on a Friday night, and I found myself in wandering a new neighbourhood with brand new friends. What better way to get to know people then over sharing drinks and dinner? So we found this whimsical pizza parlour and sat at a cozy table inside. The staff are friendly and the joint has a cool vibe - you know one of those places where you feel like a regular even though this was my first time there.

The drinks are easefully written up on the chalkboard wall. The blueberry beer was good, with the subtle flavour that doesn't overpower the beverage. The watermelon one has a stronger taste, which I didn't care for. We all shared two large pizzas - made in their wood burning oven. Both were good however the one with potato chips was too odd for me, I just didn't like the ingredient combination as much as I anticipated when we ordered. The crust was sublimely thin and crisp and the sauce took a supporting role, complimenting the toppings wonderfully. Unfortunately the olive oil gelato was sold out before we arrived so we weren't able to indulge in that at the end of our meal.

The food and casual atmosphere was perfect for a late night Friday dinner.

Very good pizza; nice, interesting beer selection; sweet but mildly flighty service. You can smell the wood smoke from the oven, which may be a plus or a minus depending on your tastes.
