This is my GO TO place for fried chicken at lunch time.  I'd go at other times of the day too but the I don't live any where near this place. The spicy/crispy version is the recommended flavor. Regular tends to be more dry and rather bland to for me.  And for those of you with a phobia of spicy flavors, don't worry because the spicy really isn't very spicy, it really only has a hint of pepper and other spices.

The combos are recommended, on several occasions a three piece combo may become a four piece, and a four piece combo might become a five piece combo. Combos include a side of gravy a healthy serving of fries and a pop.

The one downside is if you don't catch the rush there's a chance that the chicken may not be as fresh as it possibly could and the result is usually chicken that is less moist. But in any condition LA Chicken is better than KFC on any day.

If I had never tried Fritou fried chicken at Duffin's Donuts in Vancouver, I would give LA a 4 stars; that's how good in terms of flavour and seasoning.

But if i'm in the mood in Richmond, it's not bad, quite crispy, probably a bit too much batter and skin, guess that's the best part lol.

Place is a bit run-down, and service slow as it took 5 min. to order 3 pieces, which i found expensive for the combo; fries, and mashed potatoes, albeit in a dinky little container.

I'd go back but not in the near future.

After hearing through through the grapevine from the food blogging community about this place I decided to go and check it out, and the fact that that people on Yelp talked about it a lot.

The Good: The chicken skin is delicious and crispy. They don't get soggy easily. Even after driving for half an hour at home they still had a great crisp to it. I ordered the crispy and there was a bit of spicy kick to it. I'll definitely go back and try the spicy.

They make their fried chicken fresh. They don't work down the line and mass produce it even though they know customers are coming in. The impression I got was that it was done with care and to ensure that chickens are fresh.

The chicken is good, if you like more natural chicken flavour. What does this mean? The chicken here as a more meatier taste to it, in a way that you can taste the iron that comes from the meat. It's good lean meat.

The Average: (there wasn't really anything bad.) It's a small business operation so you do wait in line. They don't work like a quick service chain like Churches.  Again it will come out Fresh. The place is small and designed for take out. And may not be much to look at it.

They have a really good marketing strategy. They'll give you a coupon so that lasts for months so that you're more likely to come back and the chicken is cheaper. I still have the coupons in my car just in case I happen to be in the area.

Would I go back? Absolutely, the only regret is that they aren't closer.

My friend Vincent N. has always been raving about this place.  Finally had a chance to give it a go on the weekend.

Parking is available in front (there are some 10 spaces).  I can see this place getting busy on weekdays.

When I first walked in, I honestly didn't expect much.  Looked like a mom and pop shop, and honestly the place looks pretty beaten up.  I chuckled when the mom (cashier) pulled out a pricing breakdown that was written using a Sharpie on a piece of corrugated cardboard.  Was tempted to take it and run.

I finally settled on a chicken combo meal.  It was pretty expensive, as 3 pieces (1 drumstick + 2 thighs) + coleslaw + Coke came to $9.98.  Whatever happened to $1 a piece??  But one bite and all of my worries melted away.

If you get a chance, order the Crispy option.  You won't regret it.

How would I describe the chicken?  Just as tasty as Church's (which is one of my all-time favourite places), but less oily.  I am not sure how they do it.  The coleslaw was a touch on the bland side but that's probably not a bad thing, as it just means they didn't drown it in dressing.  Oh, the combo also comes with a nice hot steaming cup of gravy.  Drool.

The price isn't the best, but this is some seriously good chicken.

    Recommended.

Crispy, Juicy, Tender, full of flavor, F#$IN steaming hot!... I can go on and on about this bomb ass chicken!

I finally got to try LA Chicken after hearing about it from friends and friends of friends... i ordered the half and half crispy and hot.. Hands down the most juiciest chicken i have every eaten. Granted this joint isn't not much to look at from the outside.. plain inside and out but once u try the greasy oil drenched chickens of love, you'll be thinking different.

The coleslaw is also in a league of its own as well.. flavor is fresh with a little bit more acidity compared to my all time favorite churches chicken, but still a sexy product!!!

Next time you find yourself in Richmond, stop by here for your bird fix! :)

I lived in the Philippines for a while, and one of my favorite dishes was fried chicken and rice.  This is served everywhere, at McDonald's and all fast food restos.  Its incredibly cheap yet filling.  Since coming to Canada, I've often craved for this kind of fried chicken, yet couldn't really find the same taste.  Church's and KFC's are either too greasy or not flavorful enough.

Reading the reviews for this small fried chicken joint led me to a nondescript plaza just south of Cambie and No. 5 Road, Richmond.  The decor is fading, the sign looks like it was hand painted.  The furnishings are about as ghetto as it gets.  But I wasn't here for the decor, I was here for the chicken.

I order the 8 piece family meal for about $15 and change, including tax.  I heard some chinese, but I have a suspicion that the couple is filipino-chinese.  Very friendly.  I notice that the guy at the back is battering up my chicken and about to fry it.  Very nice.  I think thats one of the major failings at KFC or Church's, is that the chicken is pre-fried and they're just keeping them warm under the lamp.  The kitchen also looks very clean, modern, stainless steel.

There was quite a flow of customers.  I barely waited in line, but as soon as I left, another customer came in.  There were already 3 groups of customers eating inside or waiting when I arrived.  You know a place has good food when the customer flow is good, despite the nondescript location and decor.

The chicken arrived, I took them out.  Appearance-wise, they're nothing special, but biting into one.  OMG so juicy, so tender, just a hint of spice.  The skin was not crispy to my standards, but the meat was fall off the bone so good.  I realized that the chef at the back had performed some kind of miracle on battery-raised poultry, cuz this was as good as it gets for non-heritage chicken legs and thighs.

If you're partial to fried chicken, you gotta come here and try it out.  Just focus on the chicken, don't worry about the other stuff.  Good fried chicken can save the world.

Great chicken, if not a bit greasy.  When I want that fried chicken fix it's LA Chicken.
I hear that the spicy one is to go for but haven't tried that one Yet. Next time!

Update:  I have tried the spicy chicken combo and it is good.  Problem is that I shouldn't eat al that fried food and potato chips.   So I didn't. I just had the chicken and a little bit of the chips, followed by some pushups.

Would I choose LA over Churches?  yup.

    * Skip EVERYTHING except the spicy fried chicken *

Ok, this is a real hole-in-the-wall fast food spot that has one thing going for it:  Spicy Fried Chicken.

They seem to make the chicken once you order it so it is fresh, hot and crispy.  The spice is not over the top crazy - it just flavours the chicken nicely.

The batter they use is the perfect thickness and not greasy at all.  The chicken inside is well marinated and fried perfectly with the juices dripping down your wrist.

All of the sides are "meh" though, and the place looks pretty rundown (even for a hole in the wall) which is why this is only 4 stars.

But the spicy fried chicken is a keeper!

    Yes, its better than Church's!

I love Church's, but L.A. Chicken is better...but just the spicy chicken.  Since I was in Richmond this past Saturday, I totally had to try L.A Chicken and was very pleased with that decision.  8 pieces for $13.99+tax...totally worth the price.

It took about 15 minutes for the chicken to be ready, but so worth the wait.  Crispy skin that was slightly spicy, and the meat was moist and juicy and tender.  Perfect Chicken.

Will definitely return if ever in Richmond, but wouldn't drive out to Richmond just for chicken.

Marc is right, the spicy deep fried chicken is definitely a keeper. Sure it's more expensive than KFC and Church's, but the chicken here beat those places by a mile. What's amazing is that their chicken here are not over-fried, even their chicken breasts are juicy, and the spiciness is PERFECT.

It is too bad that this place only has one location. I usually get a "bucket" of 12 and skip all the sides... The quality has not changed at all over the years. I highly recommend this place.

Winner-winner-chicken-dinner! Give me any fried and battered chicken, I will surely eat it, but give me LA Chicken's spicy chicken and I will surely devour it!

Man, this chicken is hot, spicy, and crispy-licious. Succulent, moist, and juicy on the inside, with uber crunchy and tasty batter on the outside. Dip it in the thick and savoury gravy and you're in for a spectacular treat.

This spot focuses on their chicken, and may have intentionally forgotten about sprucing up the decor, but well, why linger there when you could just go for a quick dine and dash or grab a bucket to go, have it with the cold beer in your fridge, voila, you'll be a happy man. Trans-fat be damned.

What more can I say than "I concur"!

L.A. Chicken is run by a Chinese couple (I suspect they speak Mandarin). Once I ordered 20 pieces, and the lady owner offers to give me an extra piece of chicken if I pay with debt or cash. Only Chinese would do that. Ha ha!

LA Chicken offers 2 flavors: spicy and regular. After tasting both, some people find the regular spicy and spicy non-spicy. Go figure.

The truth is, their chicken is moist, flavorful and crispy. All the goodness you'll expect from fresh fried chicken that isn't cooked 5 hours ago and has been sitting under that heater ever since.

LA Chicken is my go-to place when I've a tough day at work (fried chicken is my comfort food). ;)

if L.A. Chicken were to go out of business, I don't know what I would do.

There is nothing as good as this, anywhere. The spicy fried chicken is just unbelievably good. Juicy, crunchy, moist, and flavorful throughout. This is the polar opposite of KFC.

The oddest thing I've found is how much I like to have my fried chicken with rice and gravy. I'm not talking spicy rice; this place serves plain white long grain chinese rice with a side of gravy, and I love it.

If they actually salted their fries, they might be good, but they don't, so dunk them in gravy and make sure to get a little packet of salt from them, but let's be real here; no one comes for the fries, the potato salad, the rice or anything else. The spicy fried chicken is the main event and the only reason this place gets a 5.

Even Fuel's fancy polderside fried chicken doesn't hold a candle to L.A. Chicken. The higher quality components cannot match the technique used at LA chicken.

If you truly love fried chicken (as in, you stop in at Roscoe's when you're in LA, and Popeye's elsewhere, you dream of going to pollo campero), then this is the place to be.

This place is a dive but probably the best fried chicken in the lower mainland. I've eaten KFC, Lee's, chester's and greasy ole Church's and this fried chicken doesn't make me sick like the others. When i think of fried chicken and need my fix I'll be hitting up LA Chicken foe shizzle.

I've been going for 20 years now and used to go every week for it until I thought I would get a heart attack from eating it so much. Now I live in Victoria and I still have it on my calendar to stop by there to get some fried chicken.

Let's be clear, I pay $27 round trip on the ferry and incur 7 hours of travel round trip so I can eat their crispy chicken. If I can do that you can spend 1 hour eating it.

P.S. Only the chicken is good. The rest is just filler.

After reading this guy's blog (http://mydinnertable.t...) a few years ago, I had to drive all the way to Richmond to try.  Back then, I lived in Burnaby and we had a placed called Lee's fried chicken close by.  When they closed, I was devastated.  So glad to find L.A. Chicken to fulfill my fried chicken addiction.

Nothing goes better with the Spicy chicken then a cold CAN (not fountain) of COKE.
