    Kula Yoga is hop and skip away from my neighbourhood in Mississauga.  The location makes it very convenient to attend classes.  I signed up earlier this month to try them out for a month before I commit to any future classes.  They have a great deal if you are new to their studio, for 30 days, you get  access to unlimited yoga classes for $30!  You can try both hot and non-hot yoga classes.

    I am biased towards the hot yoga classes.  There is something about being in a nice warm room appealing on a cold day out.  The classes I have attended have been great.  They fill up fast so I would recommend getting there 15-20 minutes before your class time for your optimal yoga spot.

    The vibe at the studio is very zen like, it feels like a yoga studio.  I feel calm when I enter the studio.  It is nicely organized and their class registration system is computerized.  You have a pass, you just scan your card, select your class and you are done!

    The only downside is the size of the women's change room.  It is tiny in comparison to the volume of women that at the studio.  Yes they have little cubby hole lockers, great but I would like more room to change after class.  I find myself in the hallway or front foyer putting on my clothes because it is so cramp.

    Drop by this studio you are in the area, you will not be disappointed.

    My visit to Kula Yoga Studio using my Passport to Prana was quite pleasant!

    Just love the spacious waiting area.. really comfortable set up with large floor to ceiling windows.

    2 practice rooms one for heated and one for mostly Ashtanga classes always nice giving us choices in class.

    The Hot Yoga class I attended with Live music was really inspiring as the acoustic guitar and the singer voice was so calming while I struggling with my handstand prep....

    This location not only equipped with good facilities, it even has handicap facilities for one of the shower stalls...

    Lockers available brings your own lock.

    Now I need to go back and work on my handstand....

    I took a yoga for runners class here, and while the physical studio was nice, clean and pleasant, the staff was slightly on the pretentious side. Unfortunately, the class quality didn't make up for that. The instructor was awkward, slightly introverted and unhelpful in breaking down positions for beginners in the back who were very obviously struggling.

    The studio is still well equipped with showers, props for yoga and plenty of parking was available. I might try a different class next time.

    Is it possible to found your soul in a pseudo-industrial, suburban mall?

    Who would have thunk it...but yes.

    This is a nice studio.  It has all the great elements that a downtown Toronto neighbourhood studio lacks.

    Lots of free parking?  CHECK (you need it, because the odds are you aren't riding your bike or taking transit here)

    Big bright reception area with retail space?  CHECK

    Big change rooms with nice bathrooms and private showers?  CHECK

    Hot and Standard Temp rooms?  CHECK

    Great coffee shops, resto-bars, and shopping for apres-yoga indulgence?

    Uuuuuh...NO.  This is a suburban studio located in what my downtown inklings would call a soul-less semi-industrial park.

    =====================
    THE STUDIO
    =====================
    Great practice rooms, with great amenities.

    =====================
    THE INSTRUCTORS
    =====================
    My experience is limited to a standard temperature, Level 3 full Ashtanga Primary Series (including all vinyasa variations which I can't do) taught by Grant.  He was great...strong as a beast, inspiring, encouraging.

    The other teachers at Kula Oakville, I'm not overly familiar with.

    =====================
    THE CLASSES
    =====================
    Ashtanga Primary Series classes are funny...because you know EXACTLY what you are going to get, no matter which studio you go to.  The sequence of postures is exactly the same, and the pace may vary a bit, but for the most part is pretty similar.

    It's kind of like going to McDonald's in Paris, France...you know what you're going to get...even if the view is a bit different.

    It's a hard class.  You will be challenged.  It is not for the inexperienced or faint of heart.

    As a class experience, I actually found the room a bit cool, so getting into some of the binds was a bit difficult.  I don't like a HOT 39C room, but I do have an appreciation for what a little warmth (as opposed to chill) can do for improving flexibility.

    The class energy was good with some very strong fellow students.  Class instruction was good, but as with a  Primary Series class, minimal "adjustment" or instruction is offered.  This is not a fault of the studio or instructor, but the nature of a traditional Primary Series class.

    As to their other classes, Kula offers a LARGE variety of classes (Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, restorative, pre/post natal, kids, etc) in both hot and standard temperature rooms.

    You will be able to find a class to fit your needs.

    =======================
    THE CONCLUSION
    =======================
    It's a beautiful studio.  They have a large variety of classes and both hot and standard temperature rooms.

    If you go here...you have a car...and live in the 'burbs.  If you live downtown, odds are you won't be travelling to Oakville for yoga...given the offerings in the City.  BUT, it's definitely worth checking out though to see what a suburban studio offers.
