How the economic times have changed...when they have their neon sign lit up usually mid-day, you would get a free honey-glazed donut to sample! Now, it's only half-size, and have to ask for it as I found out the other day.  Worker claims they've stopped that over a year ago...

My favs are the honey-glazed, lemon/raspberry fillings...don't get tempted by the Toffee, sucked big time.

At least they give away all the donuts at end of night to the Food Bank.

Still, it's a cool place to watch the donut-making process, bright, diner-ish decor, and plenty of seating and hang out to work on the laptop ;)  that's always good by my books, and plenty of plaza parking.

Oh wow, donuts dozens here are half price after 2100.  Not sure when they started this promotion but I think this is the start of many late night runs for me.

You can thank me later, and your dentist will thank you later as well.

A novelty more than anything else nowadays, and the only one I know that is available in BC. I remember a time, long long ago when these things where the 'f'ing bomb', and that you would see line-ups like you see at food banks for the sweet goodness of these 'bad for your health' treats. Gone are those days, and gone are the line ups, but somehow this location survives. You can still get the Krispy Kreme paper hat, and you can still come in, and look at the assortment of doughnuts they have here, and look at the conveyor belt machine that pumps these bad boys out, but usually they are not on, unlike before when your mouth would water, and they would give you a whole 'original' glazed doughnut to eat, and it would melt in your freaking mouth, and the first thing you would think of is reaching in your pocket for money to take these suckers with you packing to home.

Well, after a long hiatus, I return to get some of that 'retro' goodness that I fondly remember, and as I said, I've never been to this location. Not many people in there, just a few, making up their minds if they want a few, or a box of 12. Me and my partner roll up, not believing that we just made a donut run out to here, but there we were, on a sunny day, with the green outline, and red letters looking us in the face. We didn't stay long, as there wasn't much to see, or any free samples to taste, as the machines were probably done for the day cooking up the stock of donuts for the day. We did however purchase two donuts, one was the original glazed, the other was some 'piss-poor' cake like donut, and by the way I'm describing it, non-memorable! We had the 'other' donut first, was not impressed, then I allowed my partner to bite into the 'original' and a smile came to her face.

These things may not be 'crack-like' compared to before, but they still bring you back to a time of yesteryear, when gas was cheap, housing was affordable, and organic food was just being introduced. I don't know when I will see you again, but if any of you do run across a Krispy Kreme, hopefully you get to try one right out of the deep fryer, and know what true badazz donuts tasted like when they were at their hay day!

Hey Hey! This is what powerful unhealthy sweet tooth can do.
I had a sudden craving to go, so I asked my buddy to see if he could drive me and do a donut run, he totally agreed.

I've never been to this particular Krispy location, but it was absolutely clean, spacious and the staff were friendly. I swear it's their policy to greet customers within 30 seconds of looking at a doughnut. The only thing missing is sampling like gelato places do.

The only thing that got screwed up was that they ended up giving me the same doughnut twice.

I would personally suggest trying out the Carrot Cake if you want to try something different from the donuts. The frosting is extra sweet and potentially will make you a diabetic, but it's good and you can not beat the value at this place for a carrot cake.

Oh and another thing, donuts are 50% off after 9pm if you buy a dozen and they close at 10pm.

Three words for you. Hostess Cup Cake. Krispy Kreme has their own unique version and it is blowing my mind. Imagine something in their case that is baked! Chocolate Cake!

Krispy Kreme has Tim Ho's beat. This is a far superior store...too bad they don't make a double double or I would strive to come out here even more. There are too many people complaining about how bad this stuff is for you. They are doughnuts....they all are.....atleast choose a good one when you indulge!

BTW the boxes you see outside Costco here and there don't do the actual store justice for flavour....not even close.... try one off the line...amazing.

What could be better then a warm Krispy Kreme doughnut just out of the fryer and perfectly glazed melting in your mouth. The mystique of Krispy Kreme has lost it's luster. There used to be a time when they had a fanatical, cult-like following in the Southern US where it was only available.

When they opened franchises in Manhatten, LA, and Las Vegas, there were line ups stretching around the block. They were the hottest thing around and made nearly $100 million in profits ending fiscal 2004.

As rapidly as it climbed in the hearts of doughnut lovers and in Wall St as it's stock soared; it rapidly spiraled in a deep dive in 2004 when it missed it's first quarterly earnings report. Then CEO blamed the first ever quarter loss on the Atkins diet and consumers trending towards low-carb diets. Really? Say it ain't so, Mr. CEO.

What the heck happened? How can a company being in business for over 70 years with a legendary product and loyal customer base fall from grace so fast? After all, Dunkin and Tim Horton's are still around. Well, it's probably because of a combination of too much ambition, greed, and inexperience after they became a public company. They expanded too quickly and it became too available and lost the mystique factor.

But, I digress as I find the history of this franchise interesting.  The original glazed doughnut is as good as people say. I remember when they opened it's franchise in Issaquah, WA state. I drove all the way there to buy two dozen glazed. It's better then any other doughnut from Tim's. I always buy half dozen glazed and half assorted. It's one of those things that you must try at least once.

Krispy Kreme just got even better. We could jaw all day until the cows come home about what the best doughnuts in town are, but now that KK dispenses practically free coffee with every order, they've got an edge on the competition. Yep, with any delicious doughnut, a small coffee is 5c, a medium 15c and a large 20c. I also love that they have 1% milk for my coffee, as well as the usual skim and whole options.

And they really are the best doughnuts if freshness, toppings or taste and texture are considerations, so discover Delta already, ya sugar-deprived whingers.

It's hard to justify the trek out here. Seriously. Nearly forty minutes (without traffic) for doughnuts? Obviously not worth it.. but with the means to get their and the temptation growing palpably stronger, why not?

Warm, moist and fresh off its run on the conveyer belt, the tiny little deep-fried dream fit neatly into my mouth. I'm pretty sure they have other flavours but it's hard to look any other way when the regular calls out to me so seductively.

I had my first straight-from-the-shop Krispy Kreme doughnut the other day. All other times had been thanks to club fundraising booths on campus selling off hours-old doughnuts to raise a bit of coin [and I am guilty of also peddling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to sweet-toothed students all the way out at Point Grey.] Obviously, nothing compares to the taste of a freshly baked doughnut, and so, since I was in Delta for an appointment and I'm NEVER in Delta, I hopped over at the only BC KK location with glee. Boy, do these doughnuts melt in your mouth. Not sure how I felt about being able to see the doughnuts be made [I like to be mildly blissfully ignorant with my food - even seeing my food cooked in hot oil and industrial fryers can turn me off] but it was a nice touch.

    So delicious!

Alright, I got to go to Krispy Kreme again recently, whilst running an errand deep into the heart of Surrey. Picked up a 6 pack of sweetness: 3 original glazed, banana fritter, apple fritter, and glazed chocolate sprinkle. The 3 originals were just coming down the line, and the employee took those ones for me rather than the showcase ones. I had been to KK before, but never had the chance to grab hot fresh ones, you really should take it upon yourself to go in and try them when that red light is on outside. I liked the banana fritter as well, a pretty cool and different taste. The coffee was also really good, and two thumbs up for how squeaky clean it was everywhere inside.

Can't wait for my next visit. :)

One of the best doughnuts I have eaten in North America...simply delicious!! And to reply to the guy who said that after eating 6 of them you get sick...maybe, but you get even sicker after eating 6 Big Macs and they are not even half as good!!! We all know it's not healthy stuff, but in moderation, it's a very good way to indulge yourself once a week or once a month maybe?

Nothing amazing about these donuts. They're all the same and they're not very healthy. If you're a sweet tooth, you'll probably find it yummy at first, but after eating half a dozen, you'll probably become sick of the stuff.  I think having one Krispy Kreme donut per year is enough for most people.

Finally took a day-trip down to Delta to become part of the it-crowd of Vancouverites who've partaken in the Krispie Kreme myth. And, yes, I liked it. The retro chic interior is nice, the combo prices nearly unbeatable and the do(ugh)nuts ... yeah, about that. I really didn't find them all they're cracked up to be. Don't get me wrong, they are way superior to Tim Horton's (although I missed some kind of only slightly glazed variety, such as honey dipped). But, bottom line, I found them all a little too sweet and too rich. Now, there isn't necessarily something wrong with being completely full after two do(ugh)nuts, considering they cost you only two bucks and change together with a medium coffee (which is also superior to T.H.). But sometimes a little more fluff goes a long way. There is a good chance I'll drive back out there sometime, but mainly for the novelty of it. For my everyday do(ugh)nut cravings, I'm pretty sure I'll stick with Lee's on Granville Island. In my book, still the best in town.

sickly sweet but in a good way. when they first open i'd drive all the way to surrey at 3 in the morning.  I have them whenever i can when i'm in the us, they just seem to taste better there but they're not bad here so i'll take em.  classic, original that's the only way to go.  If you want something glazed go to Lee's @ granville but this is all about sugar, sugar and grease.  good warm with a ice cold glass of milk, nice contrast of flavour, heat and textures.
