Review from Isabelle G.
Vancouver, BC
Atmosphere: It is very tiny, however, there are tons of photos and samples on display for you to look at. I went for cupcakes, however, walked out with an idea that this is more than just a bakery, however, artists who make awesome cookies and very beautiful cakes similar to the Food Network's Ace of Cakes.
Service: The lady was sweet, however, I could tell that she wasn't much of a conversationalist. Myself being the cupcake fanatic that I am was a little disappointed that she seemed not to care so much for the bakery that she was working for. She just went through the emotions.
Price: Each cupcake is $2.75 give or take which is cheaper and way better than some of the hyped up places downtown like Cupcakes. I had a Living Social coupon, therefore, I got 6 cupcakes for $7. Without the discount, I would still return. The small tea cookies looked cool, however, expensive at $1.25 for less than 0.5 oz.
Food: My 6 cupcakes were already pre-packed in the fridge, therefore, I didn't get to hand pick my 6 or have the option, per Living Social Coupon to upgrade to the Raspberry Black Forest cupcake that everyone and yelp was talking about. The cupcakes themselves were very fluffy and the frosting was made out of real buttercream, a lesson that the Cupcakes franchise should take. The cupcakes weren't too sweet which is just the way I like it considering that I've been kicking the sugar habit, therefore, it was a guilt free treat. -

Everything else looked good but I had a groupon for cupcakes and had to order then. Blah! Both the cake and icing were tasteless. These local cupcakeries need to get up and visit the closest sprinkles cupcakes to get an idea of what a cupcake should taste like.
I think for everything else this place would be great and the people here were nice but don't waste your time or money on the cupcakes! -

This place has such awful customer service. I made the mistake of purchasing three of the LivingSocial vouchers that were available, thinking that I would surely attend three events where cupcakes would be happily accepted. Unfortunately, this is one of those businesses that has signed up for a mass-voucher program but doesn't have the product to support it. Over the last year, I've stopped by the bakery many times trying to pick up my cupcakes, and only once did they have stock. I am just going to take the loss on the other two vouchers because really - why should I have to pre-order SIX cupcakes at least 24 hours in advance?
Kaeko just emailed me and said that I could redeem one of my vouchers but only if I come in today, which essentially means RIGHT NOW. This is how she decided to let me know:
"Yes, you do have unused two Voucher.
I understand last couple month you tried, but we also told the client they should reserve them because we have only certain number of cupcake we makes a day* and you also had a chance to pick up for a year.
There is so many client like you. We can't accommodate everybody who does like this.
But if you can't pick up this today, we are no longer accept your request.
Please call us as soon as you can and make sure you will bring your copy of voucher today.
Best regards,
Kaeko Kanno
Kreation"
Well, that's nice. Thanks for offering me your best regards, Kaeko. That's so friendly!
Also, apparently, the "number of cupcake they makes a day" is 5.
And, of course, when I just called I got the following responses:
- hang up
- fax machine
- a snotty girl who said that Kaeko was really busy
It's worth mentioning that the one time I was able to get cupcakes, they weren't great. They were small, dry, and the icing was super thick. I also had to get two "premium" cupcakes (because they didn't have enough stock of the regular ones. Shocking!) so I was charged the same additional charge as though I'd purchased all six as premiums. Not a big deal, since they were a good deal to begin with, but it's all just very annoying.
I think Kaeko and her "team" should probably stick to wedding cakes and not deal with the general public. They clearly cannot handle it. -

1 star service, 2-3 star cupcakes.
Terrible service here! Bought a LivingSocial deal here for a half-dozen cupcakes after reading the positive reviews here. Totally disappointed!
What kind of place makes you pre-order 6 cupcakes in order to ensure more than one flavor? First, they tell me to come back in an hour since the buttercream wasn't ready yet, and so I come back in 1.5 hours and it's STILL not done. Same story about how I should have pre-ordered and they can't guarantee selection... WTF? You're a bakery and cupcake shop that only has one flavor in stock in mid day?
They managed to scrounge up a couple of others and said I was 'lucky' there was a hazelnut one in.
Honestly, I like Chinese cakes and Swiss rolls which have the same type of spongy/not too sweet taste and the dense buttercream icing. I would be willing to overlook the crappy if these were good. But they're not. The cupcakes were incredibly dry... Since there was essentially only one flavor to pick from, who knows how long it had been unsold in that display case. Icing was decent, very Asian style.
No go for me. Vancouver really needs a decent cupcake shop! (anyone want to go in on a Sprinkles franchise with me?!) -
Review from Siri W.
This place is sooo cute. It's quite small, and for a bakery, rather sparse, but the sample wedding cake in the window was just astonishing in terms of artistry. All the little cakes and goodies looked delish but I came in here on a mission - I had heard about this Raspberry Black Forest Cupcake and I wasn't leaving empty handed.
Paid my 2.50...got my cupcake and took it outside to enjoy - okay...I recognize that, in terms of quality, this is undoubtedly better than "Cupcakes" but...I still like Cupcakes better. I'm sure this makes me unsophisticated and mainstream by dessert foodie standards - but I can't help it! The butter cream on this does have a great flavour - like fabulous...it actually tastes like...this sounds a bit odd, but room temperature raspberry frozen yoghurt in terms of texture and fresh fruit flavour. So that part was wonderful. But the cupcake itself I found rather tasteless. Nice and moist, but I just didn't get the rich chocolate flavour I had hoped for. The buttercream though - yum - definitely better. See, I'm not so bad.
Enjoy you gourmet foodies! I'm sure you'll love this place. And if I ever got a wedding cake designed - this would be the place. That one in the window was just absolutely stunning! -

I've been on the lookout for good cookies and for some reason they seem to be hard to find in this town. I tried the two chocolate varieties here and the "divine" was a richer, dense chocolate cookie, soft and almost alcoholic tasting. It was very good. The chocolate spritz was bigger and drier but very tasty with a milder flavor. I was good and buttery. The place is tiny, the woman working there seemed sort of no-nonsense, but I'm, okay with that. I thought the prices were good for the quality. Definitely want to try other thing there.

No. No, no, no!
Sorry but these aren't cupcakes in anything close to the true sense of the word. The cake part is like Chinese sponge cake and the frosting is almost tasteless. I tried 7 flavors and all were pretty blah.
If you like Chinese bakeries (I do), there are better ones in Van.
If you like real Canadian/United Statesian cupcakes, these are absolutely NOT them. If you like so-so Chinese cake with even more so-so frosting that lacks flavor, this place is for you.
It's too bad, too, because everything LOOKS beautiful and the owner is super-sweet. I'll head to Seattle's Cupcake Royale when I want a great cupcake ;-)

Raspberry black forest cupcake -- I think I'm in love with your moist dark chocolate body and your REAL raspberry frosting top (plus seeds)
In my dream world I am sitting on top of a pillowy cloud (likely made of whip cream) and I have a tower of these magical little drops of heaven all around me. Thank you for making me squeal!
I like that you can custom order a whole list of cakes... I'm throwing caution to the wind to say I'd even order one for no occasion at all! Perhaps the next time I'm thinking of sending myself flowers I'll opt for dessert instead :p Be ready to wait for a few minutes -- just move around noisily in the shop -- and eventually someone will emerge from the back where they're likely putting the finishing touches on someone's wedding cake, ready to give you that little mound of sweetness! -

This is Kaeko Kanno's playground. She makes a wide variety of wedding cakes and smaller "treat yourself" sweets as well. There is a single table so you can enjoy the treat quickly, or sit on a couch and sip some tea with your treat.
I had the raspberry ganache. I enjoyed the chocolate flavour, and how it highlighted the fresh raspberry on top. The chocolate sponge inside was a bit too crumbly and dry for my taste and was hard to get onto the fork as every time you broke into it to take a bite it crumbled apart. Once I gathered all the crumbs back together and got them into my mouth they were tasty. But a little more binding (perhaps some cream?) would have been helpful.
The desserts are definitely on the less sweet side (as far as you can go with desserts of this nature), and remind me of some of the cakes you find in Japan.
Service was very friendly and unrushed. A nice spot to drop into for a quick jolt of chocolate goodness if you are in the area.
I must say that I tend to prefer Ganache Patisserie in Yaletown for this type of spot. But if in the area, Kreation would definitely satisfy in a pinch.Listed in: Dentists' Dreams in Vancouver

Delicate flavors but robust consistency, cupcakes (2.50) here are made with real buttercream frosting and have a lovely cakey consistency, not too wussy, like Cupcakes cupcakes.
super yummy. 'nuff said. -

Okay, after much deliberation, I broke down and actually bought and ate my first cupcake -- and chose the esteemed Kreation Bakery's raspberry chocolate cupcake for my first taste test.
It was a little parcel of heaven. The butter-cream icing was singing "RASPBERRY" and the chocolate cake was very light and moist.
Just what I would expect a fabulous cupcake should be like! Nothing like an excellent experience on the first try! -

It's true: the cakes and treats are not painfully sweet like those confections on offer from franchise proprietors but this is the magic of treats from Kreation.
Kreation has turned me into a cupcake evangelist. I can't begin to say how many ears I have talked off about the subtle flavors and the perfect crumb of the treats as well as the sensory experience of a visit to the bakery.
The baking is a treat for the eyes with delicate frostings and pastel touches contrasted with the pop of deep colors that combine to make the designs visually interesting. The cakes are at once simply elegant and very complex: step away and see the inspired overall design and beauty of the whole cake; now look closely at the perfectly molded icing and impossibly fine details of the decorative features of the cakes. Kreation's treats rival some of the best that I have seen and experienced in San Francisco and New York.
The buttercream icing that Kreation uses is made with fresh fruit. The taste of fresh berries or lemon really come through and because the treats aren't too sweet, the natural fruit flavors don't have to do battle with refined sugar for the attention of your taste buds.
Don't wait for a special occasion to visit Kreation. A detour on your commute will reward you with the high point of your day and if you really want to impress, take some treats home to the ones you love. -

Admittedly, I've only tried the cupcakes here, but they're amazing.
Unlike Cupcakes Bakery, their buttercream is actually buttercream. The cake is delicious and moist, and the balance between the frosting and cake is flavourful and not overly sweet.
For anyone saying Cupcakes is the best, I challenge you to try the cupcakes here to compare. You won't be disappointed. -

I'm so happy that Kreation opened. I tried them first for cakes, because the samples they have in the window look beautiful, and I wasn't disappointed. The lemon lavender cake had the potential to be overwhelming, but instead the flavours were perfectly balanced. And they were incredibly helpful in consulting on how to get the cake intact out to a celebration a ways out of town.
I went back for cupcakes later. In general I'm not a cupcake fan; mostly I eat them for the icing. But I've found most in this city, even when they have "buttercream," have so much sugar in the buttercream that it's grainy and all I can taste is sugar -- I prefer to taste the butter in my buttercream. And I usually eat the icing off the top before I get to the cake, so I experience the unadulterated cake -- which in most cupcakes both here and in Seattle is disappointingly dry. But one day I was in the mood for icing, so I thought I'd give Kreation a try. I ordered one of the chocolate raspberry cupcakes, and it was just perfect. The icing was true buttercream, without too much sugar and just the right amount of raspberry -- not overpowering but very enjoyable. The chocolate cake was chocolate-y without being cloying.
I've since tried other cupcakes, and I have to say that so far, Kreation is my only go-to place for cupcakes in this city. And it's definitely my go-to place for cakes. -

I love this cute little bakery. I have yet to try one of their beautiful cake creations, but I am definitely a fan of their yummy cupcakes!!! I always go there when I need a treat.
The buttercream icing is like ice-cream on top of airy light cake. I've tried green tea, strawberry, lemon and raspberry chocolate. All super delicious. It's hard to pick a favourite. Can't wait till I have tried all the flavours. -

Tiny place, but has great cakes
I had my son's first birthday cake made there. Great service and friendly staff!
seems like everyone is rating on their cupcakes. they are average, comparable to a lot of other cupcakes u can find in town. I personally prefer their cakes! -

Some of the most delicious desserts at an incredibly affordable price which makes this place so awesome!
In addition to all the little treats they have at the store they do cakes as well, which in fact is how I discovered this place. My friend had this absolutely delicious cake and I was curious where it was from.
My fave is their raspberry ganache which is so chocolately and fruity at the same time. It definitely delights the taste buds! -

I was looking for something fancy-looking and on the gourmet-side to buy as a birthday cake for my friend. Googled this place close to my work, so I went to check it out and chose the Chocolate Earl Grey cake. It was super chocolatey and a big hit with everyone.
I've also tried their carrot cake which is quite delicious and not overly sweet. Their icing is really good; light in texture and taste. I wasn't overly thrilled by the cupcake I tried - it was decent but the cake part wasn't very soft, althought the tasty icing made up for it. -

I purchased a voucher for a good deal on these cupcakes since I am in the area. A very small place with a couple of seats and a display of their cupcakes. The 6 cupcakes for the voucher were pre-packaged, so you were not able to choose your flavours or icing flavours. The chocolate was my favourite and the passion fruit icing was pretty good. I don't even remember what the flavours were because she was too fast in explaining them. All in all, the taste is not super strong, which for cupcakes I prefer - sweet tooth. It was more like a faint taste (both cake and icing)...comparable to Chinese style cheesecake. I've had better.

Okay, their website is super cheesy with tacky candy pops but I really didn't see anything like that at the actual store. I liked this place. Definitely has the widest selection of cakes that aren't just chocolate, it isn't too sweet and the flavors are unique. This place is Japanese owned, and I tend to like Japanese bakeries compared to Chinese bakeries (i.e. less butter, egg and sugar). I had my eye on the carrot cake (ahem, rum infused) and the lemon vanilla lavender but I ended up with the green tea chestnut cake. I had a slice of this cake after dinner and it didn't feel heavy going down or feel over the top. Overall I enjoyed it and will return again for future celebrations that calls for a cake.

Came here upon the insistence of my younger sister who has a crazy sweet tooth (on her last visit to the dentist, she was told that she had eleven cavities!). The cupcakes were a bit ordinary--not very moist--but the rest of the stuff looked amazing, particularly their wedding cake display. Everyone else in the shop seemed wholly satisfied with their orders. Had it not been for the fact that they were closing, I probably would have picked up some cookies, too.

I usually find that most western style pastries are too sweet, masking the flavours of the ingredients. This is not the case with the products at Kreations Bakery. I can go on and on about the fantastically sophisticated flavours of the tarts, mousses, and cakes I have managed to stuff into my face-hole thus far, but I won't. Simply put, everything is yummy and amazing. I have a special place in my heart for their cookies, namely the madeleines, piped chocolate sugar cookies, and lavender shortbread. There is an assortment of loose teas for purchase in the store as well. I HIGHLY recommend the Earl Grey

I work by this bakery so I thougth I would check it out. I bought 1 coconut cupcake ($2.00) and 1raspberry blackout cupcake ($2.75). When I got home and cut into, boy were they ever moist. I gave my husband a bite of the raspberry blackout one and immediately he did not like it. He stated that the icing tasted like nail polish remover. I guess he was just expecting it to taste like chocolate and sugar and was not aware that it was the tartness of the raspberry. Anyways, I thought it was quite good. Very moist and the icing didn't taste like plastic like some other places. I did however like the coconut one better because I love everything coconut. It was really yummy. I think that I would go back and try their other cupcake flavours and maybe pick up another coconut one. I was tempted to try their other cakes, but found that they were quite pricey for the amount that you got. On average the small pieces of cakes were about $4.50 each. Maybe one day i'll have to splurge and try them out.
