Kool!
Buy: Bed Stuff as in bed frames bed linens from Tempo, Reve and others.
Arm chairs, chaises, clocks, dressers and sectionals and ottomans. I actually LOVE their Big Time Bodoni clock where all the numbers are scrambled together and you don't even know really what time it is, even though it's a clock that is supposed to tell time.
I am really rambling! Okay, the point is: It's a cool interior design store and yes, it is kool and for your house, hence koolhaus. -

A recent relocation to Gastown, Koolhaus has joined our local community of transforming Gastown into a destination shopping location. Although, the concept of shopping for furniture in Gastown is yet to be discovered by the "main stream" shoppers, for those who appreciate modern design Koolhaus is a great alternative to finding furniture options that are affordable. Owner Stephen Sutch and manager Gary Christianson are great to work with when needing to find the perfect alternative when your in a time crunch and need to meet a budget.
My picks from Koolhaus are product collections made in Canada that Stephen tries to support as well some of the accessories if needing a mid century modern or art deco piece. The style of the showroom has changed into a more eclectic design approach however if you visit often enough, there are reasonable prices for Canadian made goods.
Now if only the landlord of their new building would support this new neighborly retailer by upgrading the building facade. It's a shame that with all the new developments and facelifts of neighboring buildings that this one building makes it difficult to reflect a good retailer joining the neighborhood.
In appreciation of Koolhaus being one of Vancouver's modern furniture retailers, pricing ranges depending on what you are looking for. Typically Koolhaus would be on the shopping list when looking for quality outdoor furniture & umbrellas. Having worked with Koolhaus for a number of years, it is exciting to have them join the gastown neighborhood and be a part of the motion in process of transforming the perception of the neighborhood as a destination community to not just the tourists but as well the locals. -

Although I typically can't afford too much from this place, their occasional sales put some of the furniture within reach and range of other big box furniture retailers.
Keeping your eye out means you can snag some great deals on some unique pieces that typically lean on the side of being modern chic.
Staff seem a little distant especially if you're not opening your wallet for the bigger pieces. -

Koolhaus is one of several high end furniture stores in Gastown. You'll find a lot of platform style beds, sleek desks, and sectional sofas. I fell in love with a sweet piggy bank with wings, but the $100+ price tag snapped me back into reality.

Was eying a pair of occasional chair here for several months, walked in end of Aug and past the sale items, there were the chairs in lighter brown leather at 1/2 price. I bought them on the spot. I was making up my mind as the dining chairs I bought a couple of years ago took 8 months to arrive, these had been ordered and abandoned by a customer who had paid 1/2 down, their loss my gain.

I can't afford this stuff, but it's bloody beautiful. Loved the "flow" bed with curved details, the beds with clever under-the-mattress storage, and the dining set with reclaimed wood and six Scandi-gorgeous chairs with low backs and padding. Love those sectional couches, too. The funniest part was running into an old friend from the neighbourhood, out with his family, and confessing that I was just here to torture myself with the fantasy of owning non-IKEA furnishings (and to kill time before getting to my dinner destination). He said, "Don't worry, we're all in the same boat." No wonder his job is helping people.

Koolhaus is one of the few places in this city that you can walk into and be surrounded by pieces designed by some of the most influential designers both present and past. If your looking for something in a magazine lets say, and you need the tactile advantage then head to koolhaus because guaranteed you will be able to find the piece you are looking for and experience it for yourself. Now luv does come at a hefty price tag, but really can you put a price on luv? I think not. The only reason why you are not getting a full five star rating is the fact that you moved... I know.. I know.. you wanted be closer to your buddies there at inform and such, but now we are left with the ...shudder.. dare I say it out loud ... Le chateau in the place where you once lived. I was satisfied and content to visit you on fourth ave., and now find myself not making the trek to Gastown quite as often as I used to.

DON'T SHOP HERE. I spend several thousand dollars here and the furniture has fallen apart and they don't care to help. Our fake wood dinning table started peeling apart and they didn't care to help. Their service is terrible, they have a rep there named GARY who pretends to be so friendly, but when we had a problem it would take weeks for him to get back to us. We just got the "oh sorry we can't help you." The quality is no different from what Nood sells, but will cost you a heck of a lot more. Most everything they sell is from China and made from particle board.

I'm something of a detractor of the modern interiors trend, I find it a bit soulless, so I'm afraid I'm not a lover of Koolhaus. It's true that they have some funky home furnishings with clean lines and a sense of edgy style, but this store doesn't scream or even whisper unique to me. But, if you are on the lookout for neutral tones, clean lines, spare details, and if you can afford this kind of chic, you'll be happy to visit koolhaus.
