I think this place is heaven.  I usually get 5-6 cases each trip...ahem :P  The (ice) wine is divine.  Opulent, affluent, impeccable service.  You can see beautiful Toronto skyline on a sunny day.  B)

This is our absolute favourite winery in the Niagara region, and is a converted peach orchard. The wines here are absolutely fantastic!!! Our favourites are the Gewürztraminer, Peach Wine, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir to name just a few. Every time we go, we get at least 12 bottles. The other thing that I REALLY like about this place is that it is not pretentious like some places. The staff here are down to earth and very helpful ... especially Jeremy! Stop by and you won't be disappointed.

This estate is really beautiful. And popular! Tour busses and cars fill the parking lot and the place itself has a very touristy feel.

We took the tour with Michael who showed us around and gave us a lesson in tasting in the private tasting room. The tour was very nice overall and Michael was friendly and enthusiastic which we enjoyed.

What disappointed me was that as soon as the tour was complete we were left on our own in the shop. It would have been nice for that personal attention to have continued into our wine-buying portion of the day.

At the tasting bar they charge for the pours (which are teeny-tiny) even if you are buying wine which I found cheap compared to the other wineries we toured and visited.

Like I said though, it is a beautiful place and I'd say worth a visit.

Konzelmann Winery is one of the favourites in the Niagara area. I have visited this winery on a couple of occasions, one for a winery tour and one for my friend's bachelorette.

The scenery around the winery is picturesque. They have a platform where you can overlook the winery and take some scenic pictures.

Both visits were greeted and attended to our wine sample needs. Their wine sampling area is quiet big, both times our group hung out at the sampling bar. Sample tastings were around $1-$3, ice wines being on the higher end. During my friend's bachelorette visit to the winery, they brought out a high heel shoe glass for her to drink out of!

Scenery and service are A+, add this place on your visit list when in the Niagara on the Lake area.

Stopped by Konzelmann for a quick tasting at the end of our wine touring day and what a treat this place was!  Such a beautiful facility and great service in the wine shop.  I cannot remember the name of the guy who presented our tasting (Jeremy?), but he was fabulous!  He was friendly, hilarious, and incredibly knowledgeable about the wines.  His passion for wine almost blew me away!

For the reds we tried both the Noir and the Shiraz, which were both flavourful and a hit with my red drinking friend.  Of the whites we tasted the Sauvignon Blanc and the delightfully crisp, Gewurztraminer.  What a delight to my taste buds this wine was!  A must try if you love the white wines.  We got to sample the Peach Wine, which is very tasty and could go down almost too easy and the Vidal Icewine, such a treat!

If you enjoy German influenced wines that have won a bunch of awards, then this is your place!  Worth it for the tasty wines and friendly service, I will be visiting here again when I am back in the area.  Enjoy!

LOVED this winery!  My boyfriend and I went to 4 wineries in Niagara on the Lake.  While this winery was not my favorite (Stratus was), it is the one I would recommend most highly to a friend and here's why: The grounds and winery were lovely- right on the lake with picnic tables where we had a delicious wine and cheese picnic.  The staff were really friendly and helpful.  The prices were very reasonable- their wines averaged about $15 per bottle and were really tasty.  I ended up really liking their peach wine, which surprised me because I usually hate sweet, fruity wines.  This one was great, though- not too sweet.  The sauvignon blanc was also very good.  Highly recommend!

This place is like the powerhouse of wineries in Niagara Falls. They've won a boatload of awards, have a beautiful facility, and make some amazing wine.  Best of all, they have a deck with a spectacular view of their vineyards and Lake Ontario. Be sure to bring your camera so that you can take your yearly Christmas card picture--we took one here and got a ton of compliments!

When we went, the person who provided the samples hooked us up with several free samples, including this absolutely killer combo of ice wine and champagne! Try it out if you get a chance--I don't know if every employee makes it, but it's definitely worth asking for because it was excellent.

We got a bottle of their peach wine, which is very sweet and fruity. We didn't do a tour or anything like that.

This place isn't as quaint as some of the smaller wineries in the region, and it tends to get a lot of traffic, but the wines are high quality, so it's worth a visit if you're in the region.

Kevin at Konzelmann hosted the best wine tasting I've ever been party to, and I can't wait to go back.

The tasting room at Konzelmann is an elegant stone room with windows over the tasting bar looking out over the lake.  As we approached the bar, I overheard the couple walking away comment that it was the best wine tasting they've ever done.  I walked up to the gentleman who had been pouring for them and said, "I want whatever they had."

Turns out they had approached Kevin, and Kevin had poured for them his "Practical Wine Tasting."  Kevin explained that most wine tastings pair wines with exotic foods like dark chocolates, delicacy crackers, specialty cheeses and pâté.  But most people who want to crack a bottle of wine on a given Wednesday night don't have that kind of food sitting at home in the refrigerator (okay, maybe I do, but I'm an exception to the rule).  Kevin and his colleagues were graduate students, and wanted to pair wines with the foods they found in their own homes.  And that's what he did for us.

Did you know that a Chardonnay pairs very well with Smart Food (the popcorn)?   And that Fruit Loops really bring out the sweet tones in a late harvest Reisling?  What about Baco Noir and Nacho Cheese Doritos - betcha never thought of that one!  It was amazing how well he was able to pair everyday junk food with these wines (which, in and of themselves, were pretty damn good too).

Kevin also was a great teacher.  For instance, I learned that most Chardonnays are best served closer to room temperature (as opposed to ice cold, as they're always served).  He poured a cold Chard for us, the poured the same wine from a bottle that was room temperature - the difference in taste was AMAZING.

We were there tasting for well over an hour - every time we thought we were done, he'd say, "Oh, you have to try one more thing."  We drank wine out of a glass slipper, and compared the difference between ice wines and late harvest desert wines.  He even told us which wines he thought were bad, and poured them next to the good ones so we could see the difference.  I think we tried every wine in the room at least twice - I lost count of how much we drank after about 15 minutes.

Prices for the wine tastings were listed on a chalk board behind the bar (a dollar or two per tasting, four or so for a flight).  By my calculations, the two of us had done at least $50 worth of tasting.  When it came time to pay, I stumbled to the register and asked how much we owed them (this was another clerk, not Kevin).  He asked me how much change I had in my pocket - I pulled out a handful of coins, he picked out two or three, and said we were all set.  Very cool!

Of course, we did walk out with nearly a case of wine as well.  I'd highly recommend the Barrel Aged Pinot Noir.  Don't bother with the regular Pinot - this is well worth the extra $10, and quite possibly the best Pinot Noir I've ever tasted.  The Cabernet Sauvignon Ice Wine is also amazing, and unique to boot.

Before we left, Kevin handed us a map with his favorite wineries in the region and the best wines to taste there.  I couldn't have imagined a better start to our day.

When visiting my friend in Toronto, we decided that we wanted to visit an winery on our way to visiting Niagara Falls.  We really wanted an estate winery and this one came recommended from a friend.

It is a rather unassuming place located on the shore of the lake with great views.  We decided that we would go on the tour which was only a few dollars and it ended up being just my friend and I and another couple on the tour.  Our guide was funny and he took his time to answer any questions that we had.

The tasting afterward was just my friend and I as the other couple had to leave.  My friend had never done a proper wine tasting before and she was guided through it as we talked about wine and what paired well with it.  A couple of the other employees ended up joining us and they turned out to be the assistant wine maker and the wine consultant.  They were wonderful conversation and we ended up moving our discussion out to the main tasting room where we continued to sample with the suggestions of the staff.

We ended up staying here for over 2 hours and had a great time.  I bought a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvingnon Ice Wine for my mother and my friend bought a case of the Sauvingnon Blanc to take home.  During our discussion, the staff found out that it was my birthday that day and I was given a bottle of their Vidal Ice Wine as a present.

They helped us carry everything out to my car and we still keep in contact.  I'm hoping to go and visit in the spring and have another wonderful experience!

I can see from the other reviews that this place seems to hit it out of the park for everyone else but I just don't get it.  None of the wines were memorable.  None of them seemed to have anything distinctive about them.  They were all just bleh.  Go for the views of Toronto and the lake.  Skip the wine.

I took an tour of the winery a couple months ago, and because our group was so small (me, my boyfriend, and another couple), we got to go several places that the larger groups can't!  Our tour leader was funny, relaxed, and informative, and the wine tasting was AWESOME.  We tried all different kinds, and left with a bottle of Riesling and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Ice Wine (crazy good, and so unique!).  Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the winery itself is both elegant and homey.   There are lots of wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, but this one is a must-see!

we took advantage of The Wine & Herb Festival
info - a weekend touring the 21 Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake where each will feature a different herb-themed food pairing matched to a premium VQA wine selected to highlight the flavour and aroma of the herb.

featured herb - mixed bean oregano salsa, infused with Sambal Oelek sauce with 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
