I love this Japanese convenience store on Robson street.  They've got some essentials I can't live without.  Green tea, ORGANIC nattou (fermented soy beans), and bento and sushi items for days when I don't feel like cooking.   What makes this different from other mini marts is that Konbiniya carries what seems to me every flavor of Pocky that exists (I know those have a cult following among kids AND adults but I honestly can't stand the artificial taste)  , variations of instant noodles, premade seasoning, and frozen microwavable foods that take up the whole aisle.  I do wish that they carried more healthier/nutritious options but I am not complaining because they are opened til 1 AM.

    Interesting sights:

-About a third of the store is occupied by Pocky

    -Dog friendly (!)

-Many selections of Palty brand hair dyes

-This convenience store has a fridge for fresh fish and poultry

-Carries about 10 different kinds of nattou

-Premade food is usually gone when I go there around 6, 7 pm

-Right now if you spend over $10 you can play this roulette game.  Their top prize is a discount coupon from Guu or your entire purchase free.  Their other prizes include gum / 5 sticks of pocky or if you are unlucky, nothing.

Hmmmm It's been awhile since I came here last.  The same old familiarity even though the place has evolved over the years.  It's still Vancouver's own Konbiniya.
    The one and only.

I used to shop here alot when I lived here and even when I didn't, I kept coming back.

They used to have computer services, Video and DVD's when they were popular. I got to see my entire Japanese original versions of Iron Chef.

They tried to open one on Richmond, but that didn't last long and so they went back to basics here.

Still doing what they do best.
My favourite and one and only Konbiniya.  And it did bring back memories just coming here to get some bento.

I've liked Konbiniya for a long time.  It has a nice, classically authentic "konbini" feel and lots of products that are hard to find.  The prices are a bit high, but considering the majority of the stuff is direct imports I'd say their pricing is fair.  Yes, I have "liked" Konbiniya for a long time.

    BUT THEN.

Now, they've had Japanese style crepes for as long as I've known of Konbiniya, but it wasn't until recently that they started serving Japanese style parfait.  I love parfait.  It is definitely an element of Japanese cuisine that hasn't taken off much outside of Japan.  Which is said, because it is a truly out of this world dessert.

And now, at Konbininya, you too can experience a fairly authentic parfait!  AND they have a PURIN PARFAIT.  Which, if you love purin, you will have to experience.  It even has a whole purin (flan) on it!  As you eat it, do not feel shame if a single tear of joy cascades down your cheek...

-aka "The Pocky store" on Robson.

If I ever walk down Robson st, I'd be sure to waltz in the place and say hi to the nice man behind the counter, where the delicious Japanese crepes are made.  If I do end up buying one, I eat it at the picnic table they have next to the drinks section if the weather's bad (aka raining- Hello Raincouver). May I recommend the banana nutella crepe?  I've lost count how many I've eaten, but every single time, the banana slices are JUST perfect.  If you're particular about the ripeness of bananas like I am, they use ones that JUST turn yellow (no brown spots).

They're slowly expanding their menu; they now seem to have green tea parfaits as well - and I'm definitely NOT complaining! I sadly haven't tried it yet, but will definitely go back to do so.

Apart from the crepes, this convenient store offers Japanese snacks, frozen foods, freshly made sushi & onigiri (rice balls), drinks, to name a few.  Just two days ago, I went here for an ingredient to a bread I'm trying to make - matcha powder.  The only problem was, I couldn't decide which brand to get, so I brought three kinds to the counter to ask the cashier man.  He was more than happy to help.

Lastly, it closes pretty late, so even if all the retail stores are closed, this one is still open!

So, I originally came here for one reason and one reason only. To get a certain Palty hair dye. I went to T&T to find it, but alas they didn't have the one I wanted. Ended up here because I read that Konbiniya had Palty. This was the first time I've been here and can I say OMG JUNK FOOD! *squee!*

They have quite a bit of variety ranging from sweet stuff to the salty chips. But of course, they offer more than that. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a really good look around as I was really pressed for time (needed to get to Gastown), so I only got what I needed. The hair dye I was looking for was the Palty Hard Bleach in Gold Brown and they had it, so I was thrilled. They also have pretty much every Palty dye in both foam and the regular dye, as well as most Prettia dyes as well. I bought two dyes at $13.99 each which is average. There are very very few places that I know of that sells Japanese hair dyes, so I'm glad Konbiniya sells them.

    Definitely will come back!

Konbiniya carries all of my favourite Japanese food items, but I always end up trying one new item as well...I mean, I'm there, and it's so hard not to!

The items I consistently purchase are:

    Yamamotoyama Genmai-cha tea
Kasugai Pineapple Gummy (and on occasion I will purchase other flavours!)
    Shinsyu-ichi Miso Soup
    Xylish Blue Hawaii Mint gum
Ito En unsweetened Jasmine Green Tea
Shirakiku Nori Maki Arare rice crackers

I also tend to buy edamame and whatever type of KitKat they have in stock!  Last time I bought the Sakura Maccha Latte which were absolutely delicious!

If you're walking by and want to try something different, I definitely recommend stopping in and picking up at least a drink and a pack of gum!

This Japanese grocery store is soooo cute! I love that there is a store like this in downtown Vancouver, on Robson St, which is so close to so many stores and restaurants.

The best part of Konbiniya Japan Centre is their fresh crepes and soft serve ice cream. Their green tea soft serve is so tasty and their crepes are delicious, and they have a lot of topping options beyond the typical nutella and fruits. You can have the soft serve ice cream or cheesecake or chocolate cake or other sweets in your crepe. They also make parfaits as well. The crepe/soft serve/desserts are cash only, and you can either purchase inside the grocery store or outside at their takeout window. I highly recommend stopping by here!!

Fun store to stop in among the other retail stores on Robson.  Perfect place for a pick me up of Japanese snacks, drinks, etc. if you feel your blood sugar is getting low from the exhaustive crowds.  You'll find weekly specials at a lower price, but beware of the expiration dates on food products!  Most of the time, it won't be an issue since it's hard not to start munching right as you're walking out of the store.  I even found these curry flavored puffs that were discontinued years ago--score!!!  You bet I stocked up on bags of these...I think my cashier thought I was a little nutty since I practically bought out their entire stock.  In my defense, I sent some home to my sister.

You can find ready-to-eat foods, cooking ingredients, noodles, frozen foods, beverages, snacks, candies, beauty and hair products to soft serve ice cream...it's like a Japanese version of 7-11.  What's not to like?  There's something for everybody.

This isn't the cheapest place to get Japanese snacks and staples, but the prices are not bad for downtown. I had a bad habit a few years ago of wandering in here and getting cool drinks a few times a week. Too often gets too pricey.

Japanese shampoos are formulated for my hair, I guess, and I LOVE the ones I have used. I can't afford to buy them on a regular basis, though. But thanks to Konbiniya's Anniversary Sale (November), I managed to get one at a reasonable price! It's a brand I haven't used before, but I'm going to try it out and see if I should stock up enough for the year :)

I know this is one of the places I can get a Kotatsu in Vancouver, should I ever have the chance to redo my living room. They also have Takoyaki makers, though my friend has one so I won't be needing that.

There are a few parking spots in the alley behind the store.

(Why is Yelp asking me questions like it's a food-serving place? Because of the crepe store? Isn't that a separate entry?)

Whenever I'm on Robson passing this cute little Japanese store, I always can't help but get sucked in.  From Japanese candy to heat and eat foods, this is the best place to get those snacks from Japan.

They have almost every flavor of Pocky known to man.  Pocky for men (the dark kind), pocky with coconut n chocolate, pocky with nuts on it, salty pocky, mint pocky... Giant pocky small pocky.  I get dizzy just looking at them.

Every kind of chewy and gummy candy you could ever want, and aisles and aisles of chips and ramen for that late night snacking.  Or for daytime ravaging, if you're like me.

There is also a little stand that serves soft serve and crepes.

A definite wonderland of Japanese snacks galore.  Beware!  If you walk in thinking you're gonna get just one little thing, you will probably leave with a whole big bag full.

Me to the bf - have you ever checked out Konbiniya? Him to me: you mean the Pocky store?

More than just Pocky-providers, this, like any good convenience store, carries a little bit of everything. Just so happens that the "everything" here is Japanese. Okonomiyaki sauce, tempura flour, ridiculously cute candies, chopsticks, instant ramen, bonito flakes, every kind of Pocky under the sun, and of course, DVD sales and a travel agent. Just think, all of that in one tiny store!

Entirely friendly, super convenient, delicious candy in adorable packaging - this is the perfect place to stop by when I don't feel like going out of my way to Fujiya or T&T. Also, so kawaii!

I enjoy coming here for the milk Pocky, Calpis drinks and Knorr instant corn and potato soup. You cannot find these instant soup packs anywhere! Ahhh reminds me of my highschool days.. When I used to hang out at upstairs manga kissa (when they still had upstairs)!! I remember konbiniya was a meeting spot everytime I hang out with my Japanese friends :-) but now, I rarely go there... Since I went away for school and just because I live far from downtown!!

They have good Japanese snacks and foods... I love it. It's pricier than when I get  those product from Japan but sometimes they have products that are almost expiring or expired on sale!!

Anyways, it's a must go grocery place for Japanese who just came to Canada or too far away from Richmond to buy Asian groceries :-)

Love this place. I'll come in here every few months and buy random snacks to share with my friends. We're all particularly fond of Coffee Beat - little milk chocolate/coffee flavoured candies shaped like coffee beans - and the Hello Kitty marshmallows are delicious. Not being able to speak a lick of Japanese (or smart enough to turn the packaging over to look for the English label) has sometimes caused issues - those fun, colourful mystery packages that turned out to be fish flakes and NOT candy come to mind - but that's half the fun.

    Also, there is many Pocky.

But seriously, try the Coffee Beat. It's in the back on the shelves, across from the cooler full of drinks.

I spotted the huge Pocky boxes from a block away and knew I wanted to go inside!  In the inside it looks like an old market... it has all the snacks you would find in any asian supermarket, candies, japanese cosmetics and hairdye, books and some other things.  They also make tapioca drinks, takoyaki and i believe crepes here that you can order from the outside.  It's average, nothing too exciting for me.  I was hoping to find more Hello Kitty or Sanrio products but just a few candies.

I went to Konbiniya Japan Center the first time today, mainly to stock up on Pocari Sweat but I ended up leaving with a couple other goodies...

With all the delicious sweets (especially) in that store I could have easily spent way beyond 100$ but thankfully the fact that I was walking limited me to just a few things. Mind you. the average product that is important from Japan is everything but cheap. However you get it in top quality.

Some things can actually be a bargain. Monster Boxes of Pocky, Koala's or the 1.5L bottle of Pocari. So keep you eyes open especially for the sale items.

There is a travel agency that seemed to offer quiet 'ok' prices for flights to Asia as I overheard a consultation of one client.

The ice cream and crepe stand is also a gem.Try the matcha soft ice cream cone!

    Yum Yum!

Look for the giant larger than life Pocky boxes they have on the outside of the store.  The storefront is so cute that I couldn't resist going inside.  Billed as a Japanese convenience store, they had a bit of everything from housewares of the 100 Yen variety, frozen food (natto), sushi, DVD rentals, Sanrio, Japanese magazines and books, travel agency and a special area for karaoke.

It was clean inside and felt very Japanese.  I've been to larger Japanese markets but they're not as cute on the outside (giant Pocky boxes).  And they're not open till 2 AM every day.

They seem to be in the process of creating an online store: http://www.konbiniya.com/

Me likes! Not that I'll do my weekly grocery shopping here but it's just so entertaining to browse through cutesy Japanesey snacks and candy.  Pretzel sticks coated in flavoured sugar, how can anyone not like it?! Coffee flavoured ones were on sale for 69 cents!

    "Okay, Pocky... Chocolate and strawberry..."

They also have a wide variety of Japanese bread, desserts, grains, noodles, tea, condiments, frozen food and even some beauty products and kitchenware. Not always cheap but when items are on sale, they're affordable. I got Japanese curry paste for $3.99.

Tucked away at the back of the shop is a Japanese tour agency, DVD rentals and student services. All in all, a great place to while away time.

This is more than just your typical convenience store.  (Go ahead, pronounce it:  Con-Bee-Knee-Ya).  You can locate it by finding the giant pocky boxes.

They have the largest selection and variety of Japanese snack foods available downtown.  12-15 different types of pocky on an average day.

But it is more than just a glut of pocky and similar Japanese snack food.  They also offers some frozen Japanese foods, prepackaged sushi, bento boxes, onigiri, Japanese magazines and books, DVD rentals, a Japanese comic cafe, an internet cafe, beauty salon, travel agency, shiatsu massages, a karaoke bar (sing karaoke and get 10% off your shopping for snack food from the store), a housing board for people looking for roomies, a for sale board for people posting furniture available after a 1 year stay, Japanese style crepes made fresh, and a variety of other things Japanese.  Very convenient one stop shop for Japanese pop culture.  And if you need to find a Brazilian Pudding pocky at 1am, you also know where to go.

It was our first night in Vancouver and my lab mates and I were exploring the Sunday nightlife of downtown and out grabbing late night snacks.   To my joy, I'd spotted this supermarket and crepe shop from across the street!  (Had you been there to see me jump for joy at the sight of green tea ice cream and red bean paste crepes along with other various Japanese goodies, you'd have thought I was crazy too!)  My lab mates weren't too familiar with the Japanese goodies, but loved their choice of Strawberry and Nutella or ice cream crepes, while I enjoyed my Green Tea Ice Cream one.  Usually I'd have to go to Japantown in SF to grab Japanese crepes and get my fix of various Japanese snacks, but this was my home-away-from-home moment.  I loved it so much that I went back here my last night in Vancouver to get the Soft Serve Green Tea Ice Cream and some snacks for the plane ride back to California.

Can you drink as fast as you can sing?!

After filling ourselves with all-you-can-eat sushi, a group of us got pumped on the idea of going to karaoke, but once we got to Konbiniya, all we saw were two giant Pocky boxes. It took us a minute to realize that you have to go inside and up the stairs (onto a floor that looks like a stockroom) in order to find your precious sing-along songs.

We got 4 big pitchers of beer for $15.50 each (they have a rule that every person must order at least 1 drink - odd, but whatever), and sang to our hearts' (and not our ears') content. We got so carried away with singing in fact, we forgot about their policy that all alcoholic beverages must be removed from the rooms by 12:15am sharp! So, at 12:14, we tried and tried to chug as fast as we could, but alas, our jugs were carried away before we could drain 'em. But don't cry for me Argentina - we still had fun ;)

This place is just FANTASTIC! The crepes... omg I miss them soo much! Its a mochi texture meaning its really chewy. The green tea ice cream is really strong in green tea flavour. So if you want a strong green tea ice cream flavour, check this place out!  There are many many different kinds of crepes to choose from. From savoury ones to sweet crepes. Aww I really do miss it.

The ONLY bad thing is that there were only 3 chairs to sit on. If you get there just when they open, you can sit otherwise you may find a hard time to enjoy your delicous crepe.

For the supermarket, I wouldn't really call it a supermarket. It is more like a convenience store. There are some things I never though I would find. For example, Yakult the yougurt drink, is available here. I usually see imposers of Yakult but it was actually available!

GREAT place to go! Love it here. You have to come here if you are in Vancouver!

Anything Hello Kitty is cute.In my opinion anyways. I always take time on my shopping trip to make a stop at this store. There's just something about this small, flourescent light fixture place that I really like. They used to have a whole section devoted to Hello Kitty goods, and like a small child, I would awe myself with some of the cool items that they have. They're not just any Hello Kitty items, but many of them are Japanese exclusive items. A Hello Kitty jewlery box for $80?! I want! Sadly, they removed this section now.

The market carries mostly Japanese items, with the odd thing out here and there. They have a wide variety of Pocky (seriously, I think they have every flavour), and many many Japanese snacks. As well, they have a 'ready cooked food' section, where you can purchase sushi and bentos and onigiris. In another section they have many drinks (again, mostly Japanese drinks) A Hello Kitty yogurt drink is one of my favs! (Because it actually tastes good, not because of Hello Kitty.) All sorts of candy and sweets and chips. They even have a 'dollar' section, where they carry everyday items-like a regular dollar store, but  the stuff here just seems nicer. Another part sells lots of dinner food-(uncooked)..udon, ramen, miso paste...

Near the entrance, they have a couple of things on super special, usually $0.99 or $1.99, but take note, they are actually expired items. I've been able to get a box of Deluxe matcha flavour Pocky. It usually retails for $4.59, but I got mine for $0.99. It was only 2 days overdue anyways, and I'm sure there's enough preservatives in there that can last two more days.

They even have a little crepe stand here! The guy that owns/operates this used to have a stall in the Parker Place food court, but it just wasn't the right niche for it. There's lots of variety here, savoury-with yummy fusion of western style japanese-corn, cheese and ham! My absolute favourite one has to be the red bean with matcha ice cream crepe. The ice cream melt a little, and he uses the large sweetened red beans in the crepe. Everything just goes together well, and the combination of textures is simply awesome!

I don't usually end up buying anything here, just maybe a pack of candy, but I always have a great time just browsing around!! They open late too, so I can come by after I'm done all my shopping on Robson.

When TRE told me she wanted to go to the Pocky store, I thought I would walk in to a store lined with tens of flavors of Pocky lining four walls. But, really, it's probably called the Pocky store because of the two huge Pocky boxes marking the facade. Inside, you can see that the store is aptly named - it's a convenience store. Yeah, it has a lot of Pocky (flavors are seasonal, so we were disappointed not to find mango pocky), but it also has a lot of Pretz, curry packs, mochi, random "cute" snacks, not so cute snacks (like the mix with peas, nuts, and dried fish... which, quite honestly, sounded rather yummy to me, although the picture looked weird with dried fish swimming through the nuts), ramen, beauty products, toys (including Olympics souvenirs), etc. There was also a crepe stand inside, which wasn't open while we were there.

New snacks and new snack flavors, yay!

Great little Japanese convenience store with a good variety of snacks, including the ever popular Pocky.  But, don't think it's all about Pocky - it's just the gimmick to lure you in.

You'll also find rice, noodles, sauces, condiments, etc. It's a great shop to buy snacks or basic cooking ingredients when you don't want to make the trip all the way across town to T&T or H-Mart

I had been shopping around the West End looking for shirataki noodles (low carb, low fat noodles made from a particular type of Japanese yam) and was to discover the store carries them!

Natsukashii! With the giant anime-like Pocky boxes adorning the store's façade, it's difficult to not be a bit charmed. Traditional homestyle cooking ingredients and convenient store food finds are both here, from natto and inazri zushi to yukari seasonings and ponzu dressing. While the price of mugicha and ocha isn't quite as low as it is in Japan, everything here is still generally pretty cheap. With some of the seasonal ice cream flavours
stocked in the freezer and a DVD section upstairs, this place is one-stop shopping for any Japanophiles needs.

My one complaint: where's the shiso dressing?

I would kill earth to sleep in one of those huge Pocky boxes located on the outside of Konbiniya!

The store is fairly tiny & therefore cluttered with stuff & lots & lots of people.

I understand the need for Pocky & Pocky-like treats is enough to cut a bitch.

We bought so much Pocky that we could totally make a huge Pocky fort & live in it. Until we ate it. Then we'd be homeless and it would suck.

I meant to try the crepes place attached but spaced & forgot.

I didn't realize how many different kinds of KitKat bars you can buy until we went here. Apple KitKat, Strawberry KitKat, Cookie KitKat, Nori KitKat (OK...i am totally lying about the last one!).

I would definitely go here again & buy more stuff.

Buying stuff is fun. It's even more fun when the stuff is CUTE !!!!

Such a wide selection in a small space! Konbiniya is the place to go for Japanese food, snacks, and personal care products (like yuzu bath salts). Found unique products here, like green tea Kit Kats, as well as the usual Pocky and rice crackers. Service is very friendly. I dropped in here every day during my Vancouver stay just to get my Japan fix.

Good to have around to snag J-snacks and the stuff you need (okonomiyaki sauce, tempura flour, etc.) BUT it's overpriced. I get the stuff is imported from Japan and they do have sales (it seems Pocky and Pretz snacks are always on sale) but some of it sits there for ages unsold.

The karaage chicken in the bento case is worth buying but check the flavor those of you who are picky as there is salty and soy sauce taste versions of thus.

If you're into J-crepes they have a stand there you can access from out on the street, too.

Nice selection of snacks, candies, housewares, etc from Asia. Though they don't have all the odd flavors from Japan like roasted corn Kit Kats, they have more mainstream flavors, like caramel and milk tea Pocky. I appeciate that they are honest and put on sale products that are past their due date, because in NY Asian supermarkets, I'm sure a great handful of undated food items on the shelves are expired anyway.

*LOVE* the crepe.  I've never tasted such a chewy crepe anywhere else before.  I also love the chocolate cake or the banana nutella toppings.  If you're on Robson, skip the Gelato or other desserts and head straight to the large Pocky store for the best crepe you've ever had!

I have a Mitsuwa at home - this was a cute Japanese grocery store.  The two big Pockys hanging outside was enough to lure me in.
