Koma has been tempting me for a couple of years now, by flaunting their beautiful furniture and awesome designs that I so desperately want to own.

The store is set up into several quirky/stylish rooms that you can pretend you live in, just like Ikea, except without the mass-production and with far more character and originality. Not to mention a lot of their items are one-of-a-kind, made with vintage pieces that have an artsy twist. Some of the stuff is a little creepy, but that's why it's awesome -- instead of having a cool lamp on your coffee table, why not have an amazing coffee table made of a canoe? Or a metallic skeleton chair?

They sell all sorts of furniture and lighting, from bar stools to comfy sofas, and standing lamps to chandeliers. Everything feels like it's out of a movie, covering all the staples of classic home decor mixed with, say, grown-up Beetlejuice?

The one downfall of local, awesome, modern design is that it does come at a price, and that's another way it's nothing like Ikea -- unless you have a trust fund, this sure isn't dorm room furniture. Couches can go upwards of $2500, and chairs are $500 and beyond.

But I'm sure one day, when I am beyond the student years and have money to spend, Koma will be the first place I come to make my house awesome and enviable. If you want your house to be different and support local designers at the same time (and if you can afford it), Koma is your place.
