Could it be? Have I found my new favourite North Van sushi restaurant?
I've only been one time, but was incredibly impressed. First impression is that the restaurant is clean and simple, and the staff friendly. The menu is pretty standard (price and fare) but it all tasted super awesome. The raw fish was very fresh (my Hamachi nigiri was almost sweet tasting, it was soooooo good) and our salmon sashimi wasn't fatty at all. I also appreciated that the California roll didn't have any (as far as I could tell) mayo in it.
The boyfriend went for a bento box and was impressed by the teriyaki beef (especially that it came with bean sprouts instead of a giant mound of rice). He also really enjoyed his sunonomo soup which wasn't stingy on the little shrimps and was very flavourful.
Our usual go-to sushi place on Lonsdale is Gen Sushi, but I would say Kokoro may have replaced it (sorry, Gen!) if only because they make their spicy scallop roll properly (with just the right amount of spicy mayo) rather than handing me a shaker of spice flakes to add to a normal scallop roll.
I definitely look forward to going back to see if it wasn't just beginner's luck on our first time out. -

Had lunch at Kokoro after hiking the Grouse Grind. Thinking we all had monster sized appetites, we each ordered the Bento A -- Salmon/Tuna Sashimi, Gyoza, Dynamite Roll, Goma-ae and Chicken Teriyaki served over bean sprouts. This bento was a very generous size and could easily be split between two people.
The service was great, decor was clean and simple, and all the food was very fresh. Great place to check out if you're ever in North Van. -

I went for lunch at Kokoro on Easter Monday, and was pleased to find it was open. Service was quick and efficient (though not friendly, which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
Ordered the Passion roll, spider roll, seared tuna, and an avocado roll. All were delicious, though individually sliced a little too thin. The thin roll easily lost their cohesion which made for a bit of a messy meal.
But the flavours and textures were unmistakably wonderful, and the miso soup was among the best I've ever head. This is a definite must-stop if you're in the neighbourhood and craving sushi. -

I tried the bento box, and found a lot of reasons to like it:
First, the pieces of sashimi were more generously sized than in many sushi places I have been. Second, it came with goma ae, which I love, instead of the forgettable green salad most places serve. Third, instead of California rolls (which I call "sushi for wimps") which come in so many bento boxes, this comes with a dynamite roll. Fourth, the teriyaki comes on a bed of bean sprouts instead of rice, which makes the meal a good deal healthier for diabetics like me. (I appreciated the carrot stick and sprig of broccoli, too.)
To counter those positives, I do have to say that, while I have heard that many sushi joints use horseradish with green food colouring instead of wasabi (because real wasabi is so expensive), this is the first place I've eaten where I could actually tell the difference. For those who prefer their sushi wasabi-free, that would make no never-mind, but for somebody like me, for whom nuking your sinuses is an essential part of the sushi experience, this shortcoming is worth taking off a full point. Sorry, Kokoro. -

Pretty decent. They served only wild salmon sashimi, cut slimmer than the Vancouver standard. Lunch bento was well prepared: tempura nicely crisped not oily, beef teriyaki not overcooked, sushi holds together well. Overall reasonable with cute decor.

This is my favorite Sushi restaurant in Vancouver!
The Sashimi, Nigiri and any dish was raw fish is to die for. I've never had such good fish in Canada. The only sushi that beat this was in Tokyo. This is a great little family run place. The decor is modest and the servers don't speak too much English, but it's charming enough.
I recommend the any nigiri, the special toro roll (mmm) and the Salmon Avocado rolls are pretty amazing too.
Enjoy! -

Great fresh sushi; we order it all the time and our boys love it too. They even make a custom roll for our 6 year old called the Tobiko Roll - we call it the Benjamin roll.

Not bad. Service is not bad, but not great. The food is good, I'd say above average, but nothing unique or special. This place is owned/operated by Chinese people, so the food doesn't have quite the same authenticity as others run by Japanese. It's like a Chinese Restaurant run by Japanese, it's just not the same.
Restaurant wasn't the cleanest, but not too bad.
