Review from Robin M.
For a city that sometimes lacks in... fun, Kitty Nights is pretty much *the* perfect way to spend a few hours on *any* given night (let alone a sleepy Sunday). Is it Sunday as you're reading this? Are you being lame and watching Two and Half Men or something equally as grim and mind-numbing?
Stop.
Now go to the Biltmore and be entertained by some of the most magical women in Vancouver proper.
BUT: douchebags and creepers need not apply. You will be called out, and the not-so charming men outside the Biltmore will -- uhm -- take care of you.
ALSO: be loud, dammit. Burlesque is meant to be interactive -- the more we egg on the performers, the campier they'll be, meaning the louder we'll get, making the whole night about a shared experience. And isn't that what it's all about anyway?
Plus, way cheap cover means more for semi-cheap drinks. You're welcome. -

I was worried that this place would be really rad, but nobody would venture to it, since its not in the West End. Luckily for me, every time I have been to the Biltmore it has been pretty packed, because let's face it, nobody wants to hang out in an empty club. We may complain about lines to get in, pushy people and waiting forever to get a drink, but we will still go back. The Biltmore has been the perfect amount of busy, I have never had to wait to get in, I have never had to deal with rude pushy people, but I have had to wait in a long drink line - so maybe having a few waitresses on would be an improvement?
I have been to the Biltmore to see live bands play, and also for Sunday Nights - Kitty Nights Burlesque, which I like to call Titty Nights, cuz that's what we're all there to see right? BOOBS! But seriously, this is no regular amateur burlesque show, this features ladies who have refined their dance techniques and costumes to be fucking sexy as hell yet sprinkled with a bit of crass humour as well. The night is hosted by the Purrfessor, who is as charming as he is hilarious, and the beautiful Burgandy Brixx who has brought us this show all the way from New York City! (New York City?!)
I do wish that the stage was a little higher, so when it gets crowded and you show up late (whooops!) that you could see what is going on a bit better. I am glad to have a venue close enough for me to do the Jager stagger home on warm Summer days.Listed in: Best of the best

In the words of Austin Powers, ME-OW, baby!
The saucy Sunday Kitty Nights show is a great way to beat the dreading-Monday-morning blues. For a meagre $7, this is a fun place to come with a group of friends, as both ladies AND gents are sure to have a good time. The performers are gorgeous, often hilarious, and of all different body types, which is empowering to see. The ladies I was with couldn't stop shimmying after the show -you just _can't_ help it! Watching the show really makes a gal want to save up all her pennies to buy an awesome corset. (Why oh why do they have to be so expensive? [rhetorical question -I know there's a lot of hard work and craftsmanship that goes into making them])
For those with prudish tendencies, there's no need to get your feathers ruffled. The show is saucy, not slutty. Besides, it's not nudity if the performers are wearing pasties on their nipples, riiiight?Listed in: Must dos for dull days, Vancouver Nightlife

Star award breakdown:
Biltmore: 1 star - it's close to my house, a lovely little venue, good beer, good seats if you can snag one. All in all one star goes to the biltmore.
Tassels: 2 stars. Seriously, you could tape bike streamers to your nipples and swing them around and I'd be amused. Automatic two stars for tassels.
Sass: 2 stars. Sass is really important. I don't need to see some Cecil wash up flickin her snatch around the stage to a top 40s remix at a burlesque night because that's not burlesque, that's stripping and we find that at Brandis.
Here we find awesome, talented, witty, smart, funny, women shaking their titties and bearing it all on the stage weekly. The burlesque dancers area all amazingly talented, supper funny and entertaining to watch both as performers and the girls all have great personalities. And... well the Purfessor is a hoot and a half.
The audience isn't a bunch of dolts on a stag (although you do find that sometimes) they eat up whatever is put on stage and holler for more.
Some people say Kitty Nights is one of Vancouver's best kept burlesque secrets. I don't know how secret it is but it certainly is one of Vancouver's best burlesque evenings, no doubt about it! -

Kitty nights!!!! My favorite sunday hang out. The show is always entertaining and fun and gets the whole crowd involved. It seems like every type of person can be found on any given sunday night from straight 50 year old women to young gay men. At $7 for entry you cant go wrong, and the lovely burgandy brixx always entertains. If you happen to be there a night when she sings, even better! As I write this review, I realize it is sunday. I best be getting ready for Kitty Nights.......

For the last two years this weekly burlesque show has been one of this city's best kept secrets. But lately the Biltmore has been packed just about every Sunday night as it has become a popular way to cap off the weekend. If you haven't saved a seat by 8:30, it's standing room only. For 5 bucks at the door, you can't go wrong.
More than just a vintage-styled strip tease, burlesque is an answer to the male-dominated, vacant-eyed, anatomically enhanced fantasy of femininity. It is a smart and sexy creative outlet for women to explore and perform different ideas of glamour and sensuality. Humour, political commentary and storytelling are also common in these five-minute, fully self-contained theatrical performances. Performances are always a huge hit with the crowd and, to be honest, the girls cheer louder than the boys. -

Kitty Nights is a weekly celebration of antique strip teases performed by girls determined to be performance artists. After all, there are TASSELS on those nipples and they SPIN left right and center! There's COSTUMES and BRAVERY in BARING IT ALL on stage. Or something, But I don't completely buy it.
It's not very erotic seeing the same surprised face on every girl as they lose their top and bounce on their toes in a G string. A lot of the girls do a song and dance or mime a song and lip sync. Some numbers are entertaining and others are embarasing to watch, but the Kitty Nights troupe does know how to pick them.
Over half the routines make for very amusing and well rehearsed theater. Tons of stage concepts get translated in these weeks in to tits and tassels. Also, the host, the Purrfessor has a really dry sense of humor told in a funny accent that makes you want to laugh while booing him.
It is usually the same girls performing identical routines. If you're trying to get a boner, go to a strip club for some nasty acrobatics. If you're just going out for drinks and a show, feel safe brining either a date or your pals for a good time. -

This is a beautiful venue, and a very solid weekly burlesque show. For $5, well worth checking on on Sunday nights, and easy to access from downtown.
