This place is so out of the way for me that if it weren't for a certain 'sushi monster''s recommendation, I wouldn't have found it.

The place is small, with limited seating, so it's good for maybe groups of 4 or less.  If weather's nice, there's outdoor seating too. I hear the chefs speak Korean most of the time, but the pretty lady manager also speaks Japanese. Ok, on to the food.

crispy Kita roll: ($8.95) deep fried roll with salmon, avocado, leek, crab meat, with more crab meat piled on top, glazed with a spicy mayo type of sauce.  The leek contrasts well with the fish, and avocadoes make the world go round.  VERY filling.  If you like deep-fried sushi rolls, definitely give this a try.   I've noticed that depending on how many orders you order, they arrange it differently for you.

aburi (seared)  toro nigiri: (?; requested) :D  (better than SushiHolic, imo)

aburi toro don: ($9.50) :D  Sushi rice lightly sprinkled with seaweed seasoning, overlain by slices of aburi toro.  The toro was seared just perfectly, and the sauce had a bit of heat from chili flakes.  On the side are wasabi, shredded daikon, and ginger to cleanse the palate.

Btw, they have the regular rolls that you find elsewhere too at their normal prices (i.e. negitoro roll $2.95).

Yea, the price is not that cheap, but for the tastes offered here, it's worth the $ and time (when my laziness is not disagreeing with me).  I have a feeling I will be back there to try the other stuff on the menu~  Scallop tataki...? mMmm

Kita sushi is just ok, not great and definitely not memorable. If you are in hurry and want a quick bite then this place will suffice. I have never had any of their rice bowls or sashimi, but I have tried almost all their maki rolls. My favorite is the avocado roll.  The tuna roll can be a little bland.

They ours of operation are a mystery to me. The sign says open Sundays, however it has been closed the last couple of Sundays....

Sushi is good at Kita, but not great.  If I'm in a hurry, then I'd swing by because they have a few rolls and combos pre-made in their glass case at the front.

Today I had a few extra minutes so I ordered the Sashimi appetizer, 1 chopped scallop nigiri, 1 tomago nigiri and 1 avocado nigiri.  Everything was decent, but the salmon wasn't cut very well and the avocado was a little under ripe.

One of my favorite places for Chicken Teriyaki Bowls - they are SO yummy here!  There sushi is good too, I found.
The service is very good here, and all the staff seem quite happy.

Sometimes sushi is phenomenal, sometimes sushi is just sushi. This is just sushi...

We ordered takeout sushi to bring home to eat with my mom on a Sunday night. Part of it was premade, part of it was made on the spot. We ordered an assortment of rolls and some sashimi. Pretty much standard stuff...

The one amazing part of this dinner: the Tempura roll combo... I love it when the prawns in the dynamite rolls are still warm! Same with the yam tempura rolls.

Meh, it's near my house. It's easy to grab a coffee while waiting...

I had to give  "random sushi joint" another shot after last night's bleh experience at Samurai Sushi so I decided to check this place out since I've passed by it a couple times and it's near my house.  I stuck to the basics: Dynamite roll and California roll since I was alone and that's more than enough to fill me up. And I shouldn't have an allergic reaction to it.  And all was good! The rolls were appropriately sized. It was fresh, I could even see him make it. And no allergic reaction!

It's pretty good and really cheap. The only thing is that they don't seem to have miso soups and such. Mainly sashimi, nigiri, and maki sushis. But if you're ever near the Gilmore Skytrain Station and you want a quick sushi bite, this is a decent place to go. Just a 1-2 minute walk from the station entrance.

They have a few tables for dine in, but I think it's mostly take out service. They also deliver on orders $25 or more within 2 km. I think I might try the sashimi next time.

My favorite sushi place in BC! They key is ordering the original items on the menu (there are already pre-made ones you can just point to at the counter if you're in a rush but expect the taste to be generic).

I recommend their crispy kita roll which is mounds of crab tempura smothered in spicy sauce served with roe and onion stalks (check out their website to see more). Staff is great although a bit slow as they are limited but they will be happy to make any sushi you'd like. Fancy a little mango on your california roll? done! Craving for something not on the menu? just ask the friendly server lady and she'll go out of her way to make it for you. awesome!

Place is pretty new so space is tiny and not meant for big gatherings. Otherwise, this quiet and cozy venue has about 4 tables set up in the open and a couple inside plus a small bar you can watch the chefs do their magic.

I'm hoping to see more original items on their menu soon, in the meantime, you'll have a blast just trying each one. Price is mid-range but you really get what you pay for. They have specials posted on a little chalk board close to the till and if you become a regular, they will usually cook you something unique free of charge (usually an appy) as you wait for your order.

Key words: Japanese chefs, Original rolls, Good food!

The sushi is prepared in advance, stuffed into a container in such a way that it will stick together and be destroyed upon retrieval, and is then kept in a display cabinet that is a warm 55 degrees.

Don't believe me? Look at the thermometer.

Not only does this make it taste like crap, it will make you sick too.

My bf and I ordered an Alaska roll ($3.95) and a Spicy Salmon Sushi ($3.95) for a snack before our dinner at the Boathouse and let's just say that this place did not meet minimum expectations. The sushi were pre-made and were put into a plastic-covered container. When I had asked for wasabi, they only gave a teensy weensy bit of it. With those prices, I've had way better sushi than what I ate here. In short, I would not return to Kita Sushi.

Cozy and laid-back. This is one of those local hole in the wall joints. I was craving a hot soba noodle bowl but it turns out they don't offer that on the menu. Just as my lips started to frown on both ends, the owner lady said that she will make it for me, the way she makes it at home for her kids! We also ordered some rolls, tempura, miso soup and donburis. I think it's pretty cool that she made the soba noodles for me, and it tasted good. I want to come back here and try some more rolls.. mm deep fried california rolls with salad on top....

The worst sushi I ever ate. Pre-made,cold,mushy and overexpensive in a tiny dirty atmosphere where you have to fight for the soy sauce. Rolls fell apart before I even touched them.

I was in a bit of a bind today as I was rushing from one job to another and didn't have lunch with me...I found Kita on the web and it was close to Gilmore Skytrain so I decided to give it a try.

The actual restaurant seemed fairly small, but enough to accomodate a few small parties.  It was quite warm inside, but maybe because it was so chilly outside.

I ordered the vegetarian udon soup and an avocado roll for take out.  I must say that the veggie udon was the best I've had in a while.  The avocado roll was quite tasty too...and 8 smaller pieces rather than 6 larger pieces.

I will be back to try more from their menu.
