This place is absolutely wonderful--charming, serene, delicious, comforting. It brought me back to some of the most calming and wonderful macrobiotic cafes I visited in Japan, which, I presume, is the point!
Vegan or omnivore, seaweed lover or hater, everyone will find something here. I ordered the kinpira salad (heavenly braised burdock and carrot with a sweet and salty seasoning), a shiitake-avocado roll (brown rice encasing marinated shiitake mushrooms and perfectly ripe avocado), and a genmaicha tea (perfect!). The couple who own Kissako are lovely and attentive. This really is a gem in an otherwise culinary sterile Oak Bay, and I'm so pleased to have found my way there on a particularly rainy and miserable day. -

Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. The place doesn't look like much from the outside and it's definitely not fancy inside, but the sushi is consistently awesome, the owners are super nice, and the price is just right. Be sure to try their Unagi Rolls, my personal favourite.
