We didn't have the AYCE but rather a la carte.

All of the dishes looked so good; the wait staff are very attentive.  The food was good too.  I am not so brave when it comes to eating sushi so I stuck with my favourite:  miso soup and california rolls.  My hubby would have picked others from the menu but he wasn't very hungry.

This is a good place to eat.

The restaurant is very clean and that is a HUGE thing with me.

With these tough yelpers, I was just simply too scared to try it lol.

Was doing my grocery shopping, and thought i'd take a peek at this All You Can Eat, haven't been to in eon's since high school.

$20.95 a person? dinner...and $11.95 for lunch? Geez,...one has to be hungry to come here...

This is my #1 AYCE sushi pick in Vancouver!

This was the first restaurant my friend took me to after arriving from Miami. As time goes on, I've eaten at most of the AYCE sushi restaurants in the GVRD, and I still keep coming back to Kisha Poppo - at least biweekly.

Let's start with the basics - very clean, very fast service, average decor. While the restaurant decor itself isn't anything to write home about, it is a consistently clean sushi house, which is pretty important when you're dealing with raw fish. The staff are on the ball, and even when busy they still stay on their feet and bring orders out promptly.

I'm a huge pink salmon sashimi/nigiri fan, so that's usually the baseline by which I judge a sushi joint. I've been here more than two dozen times, and I've never been served a nasty piece of salmon. I don't know if they only use a higher grade of fish, or if they are meticulous about tossing out the bad bits, but they never serve me anything remotely grey or too tough to chew. It's always amazing, buttery-tasting, pieces of salmon that are served at the perfect temperature. The same can be said for their tuna, they serve it properly (firm and almost frozen).

The rest of the menu is solid; some delicious pan-fried gyoza, great deep fried tofu, etc. I'm mostly mesmerized by the salmon, so forgive my review if it doesn't discuss the menu in depth. Rest assured, they have a full .pdf menu on their website, so you can browse it to find whatever specific dish you're looking for.

What makes this a 5 star dining experience? So far, they are the only sushi house I've seen in Vancouver that offers eel (unagi) sauce. It's usually $1 extra, but they give it to my group on the house, because we love the place so much! (and who doesn't love a little Cheers-style name recognition at your favorite local eatery?) They also have a "special bacon roll" which is imitation crab meat, rolled in bacon, then covered in eel sauce. It's pretty much a skewer from heaven and anything bacon (especially at a sushi place) definitely factors into the 5 star rating. I doubt Kisha Poppo will ever stand up to a true 5 star experience at someplace uber fancy, but I give it the Big Cinco because it's (imho) the "best in breed" for AYCE sushi in Vancouver.

Visiting for a couple of days.  Bro took us here for an AYCE experience.  Salmon (sashimi and deep fried) are both super yummy, not like the thinly sliced ones you see in other sushi places.

But speaking of sushi, theirs were sloppily done and not that good.  Tried the Salmon skin, cucumber, spicy tuna, California (imitation crab - not good!) and was not impressed.

The kids loved the chicken teriyaki and so did I!  Quite tasty.  The beef version, sadly, tasted like under seasoned sukiyaki beef.

The oyster motoyaki was tasty, the seafood variety tasted weird.

Weekday prices start at $12.99, add a few more dollars for weekends and holidays.

Hmmm... my most recent experience at Kisha Poppo serves as a brilliant example of how you do NOT want to be treated at a restaurant.

    True story:
When we entered, we were basically yelled at.  The place had no more than 10 customers, ourselves included.  We were yelled/barked at in a not so friendly or welcoming tone.  In fact, she was (and continued to be) downright surly when talking *at* us.  I'll be the first to admit, I'm and idiot, and why oh why didn't I leave at that precise moment?  Well, basically, so I can tell you what other jewels awaited us while we dined here.

We ordered the all-you-can-eat and it was clearly an inconvenience for her to take down our individual menu selections.  While it is true she was by herself as far as service staff went, it wasn't terribly busy so I'm not sure why we were given so much attitude when ordering.  And we weren't jerks that would order 2 items only to call her back 4 minutes later.  No, we ordered about 12 items to start and "called" her back with eye contact two other times during our meal to request more menu items.

Well, the best of it is that she came to our table to deliver the food while talking on the phone.  Oh, no, no... not the restaurant cordless phone.  Nope, this classy act decided to talk on her cell phone, pinning it between her shoulder and her cheek, while placing the food on our table.  My diner partner and I were aghast (no hyperbole here) and just stared, slack-jawed, at how little invested she was in the fact that she was supposed to be *serving* us.

Anyway, I don't need to go on.  This place was horrible.  I like the one on Davie Street in Vancouver.  Nothing but good experiences there.  Conversely, this is the worst experience (from a series of bad experiences) that I've had at the Ironwood Kisha Poppo.  In sum: Eek! Methinks not!

After looking at their take-out menu online, I called wanting to order their $32 party platter. The person that answered told me that the price had increased to $36 from $32. They wouldn't give me any type of renumeration for checking their website and seeing a difference in price. This is plain false advertisement.

I was OK with paying an extra $4 for the party platter but then he asked me if I wanted a tray for the sushi. He proceeded to tell me the tray was an extra $3. When do ANY sushi restaurants charge for trays for take-out party platters?!

Needless to say I was pissed and made sure he knew I was pissed. I hung up and called Fukuruku Express, below Superstore on No3 Road. They have a platter that is just as good for $29.99 and the tray is included. Service is so much better, and I'm sure the quality is better as well.

This place is terribad. The sushi is sloppy sloppy sloppy. I could roll a roll more expertly than whoever they are hiring. How do these guys stay in business?

I'm not going to waste too much typing on these guys. But seriously. Stay away. Poor food. Lousy presentation. Disinterested service.

Remember that big credit card fraud ring a few years back? Where there were numerous people getting paid off at various businesses to steal your credit card number?

Well I had mine stolen here and for that this place is forever tainted. On top of that their food is very sub-par when given the selection of Japanese restaurants in Richmond.

How this place remains open is a mystery.  If you consider its neighbouring restaurants McDonald's & Burger King decent western fare, then you can consider Kisha Popo decent Japanese.

    Blech!

It's great until you realize all you're eating is salmon and tuna. For an all-you-can-eat sushi joint in Richmond Kisha Poppo has the least amount of variety.

Was doing some errands in this part of Richmond and was craving sushi for lunch... this is the only sushi spot open in the Ironwood complex on the weekend for lunch.

It's a bad sign when it's pretty empty and with mostly non-Asian families and KIDS - aack - not a good sign for authenticity!  Restaurant is generally clean and quite bright.  Service is okay, but not very friendly.  I had the deluxe sushi combo for lunch which included sushi and a 6 piece california roll, but with slightly more expensive sushi pieces like unagi in addition to the usual salmon, egg and tuna.

Food came quickly and it addressed my sushi craving, but that's about it.  Presentation and cuts of the rolls are a bit sloppy.  Rice firmess and taste is OK.  Fish quality is so-so - texture varies, and the taste is lacking.  Prices are decent ($13.95 for this option) or you can do an all-you-can eat.  If you do take away, it's 10% off.

I've definitely had better sushi in this price range, but my experience wasn't as bad as the others.  That being said, I wouldn't come back unless I had a sushi emergency again.

Not bad - family of 4 ate for $32 after tax and tip. Something for everyone, including those non-sushi eaters (like my kids). My wife was complaining of an upset stomach later in the afternoon, my daughter too. I didn't feel anything, so I'm not sure I'm willing to sink this place with a bad food rating.

Bottom line, this place won't rock your world, but you won't end up in the hospital with food poisoning either...I think.

I suggest a Bento box.   OK if you just need some cheap Japanese food to make it through the day.

The place is very average for Sushi and Sashimi and the chicken teriyaki was pretty bland. My favorite is still Richmond Sushi, although this place is ok if you want something fast
