Anytime I'm looking for good quality dim sum, I can be certain that this particular Kirin Restaurant location won't disappoint.

I've been coming here for many years and the food has always been consistent. The environment/ambience is both clean and welcoming, the servers are helpful (albeit, extremely busy during peak hours), and the food you order arrives in a timely manner.

I won't list any menu recommendations since I only know the Chinese name for them (or the general description), but if you insist that I do, feel free to send me a personal message and I will provide you with a list of my favourites or "must-haves").

It is not often I come here for dinner so please keep in mind that this review only applies to their morning/early-afternoon service. Also keep in mind that if you don't make any reservations, you might be required to wait. Parking is available on all levels of Henderson Shopping Complex.

    Bon appetit!

Well, we are generally quite disappointed with our dining experiences in touristy "Chinatowns," so we avoided the Vancouver Chinatown this time.  Since I knew there were quite a few Chinese in Coquitlam, we drove over there one morning during our vacation.  I had no idea where to go, but then I saw a big sign on the second floor of the Henderson Plaza that said Kirin Restaurant, and I thought, "That looks promising!"

Inside the mall, there was plenty of parking, which would not be the case had we gone to Vancouver's Chinatown.  When we got to the reception area of the restaurant, I was pretty sure we had hit upon a good place.  Inside, there were big windows looking outside, and a high celing and nice decor.  Even the pictures on the wall were nice.  Looking around, the other patrons looked pretty well-heeled.  But who cares how it looks, right?  The food is what counts, and it did  not disappoint.  The shu mai were fresh and delicious.  The jin doi and all the other dishes that you would normally expect for dim sum were first-rate.  The server we had was very friendly and knowledgeable, and spoke Cantonese, Mandarin  and English.  It was on the pricey side, but this is certainly a case of "You get what you pay for."  I would highly recommend this place if you want to eat some real dim sum.

    Very good dim sum!

Located upstairs inside the Henderson Place complex, Kirin Restaurant serves up dim sum daily, but from a menu and not the traditional pushcart. The menu is in English & Chinese languages and they offer over 40 dim selections ($3.75-$5.75 each item) as well as the regular menu (pricier).

I stopped here last week for dim sum and I was seated in the large dining room (banquet hall size) with each table covered in white linen cloth with linen napkins. Several Asian families were already seated, which tells me that the food served here has to be pretty good. I was give a complemetary pot of jasmine tea and through the course of an hour, ordered several items including:

    Steamed BBQ Pork Buns
Minced Fish Bean Curd Roll in Consomme
Steamed Prawn & Tender Scallion Rice Roll
Deep Fried Crab Meat & Minced Prawn Ball Filled in Consomme
Pan Fried Prawn, Pork, & Chives Dumpling
    Thousand Tier Cake

All of the dim sum choices were very good and tasty because the selections were prepared to order fresh & steaming and not sitting around. The service here was pretty good and team oriented. My waiter took my order and walked by my table several times and different staff members brought out my food, took away used items, and refilled the tea cup, though the teapot was at the table.

New goodies me likee: Congee with beef and pork blood (disgusting and delicious). Steamed lo bak goh (savoury daikon cake).

I forgot how much this place makes me wanna nap after eating from all the MSG. Emeril is wrong in this case because they seriously need to turn it down a notch.

Service here is quite good but one of the new floor managers was totally giving our table attitude *snaps fingers*, unexceptable.

Kirin Coquitlam just did some renovations and we went there for dim sum lunch. The place is nicely decorated, more of a high-class restaurant with several tiers of servers. The captain would always serve the food to your table while other servers would bring the food out from the kitchen.

The food is good, and is expected for this caliber and price. You can't go wrong with the food, but if you just want some good dim sum without the fancy decor and hotel-like service, go elsewhere and save some $$$.

Fantastic dim sum, great seafood dinners. The crab is incredible as is the drunken chicken, prawns w/ vegetables, tong sui, all of it. Delicious.

Decor is nice and modern and not tacky. Bathrooms are spotless. Even the tanks that the crabs are in are nice and clean. I hate it when the tanks are all nasty because I'm eating what comes out of there ya know?

This Kirin is in Henderson Plaza which is half empty so there's tonnes of parking and the restaurant is pretty big so there isn't usually much of a wait if any. My only complaint is that the wait staff was slow clearing finished plates and bottles. And it wasn't because they were busy, they were just sort of staring into space on a slow night (tonight, Tuesday) while our dishes piled up.

Final note: the map on this page is totally wrong. That spot is about a 15 min drive from where it's actually located. The address is correct though.

Solid Cantonese seafood restaurant. Nicest decor in coquitlam for Chinese.

Get there before noon on Sunday for dim sum to beat the post- church crowd
