Yay I'm a fan.
Great for groups. Lunch menu is great value. Sushi was enjoyed by all including those with some dietary restrictions (dairy-free, gluten-free) so it was an excellent choice for all.
Friendly service. Kitchen is speedy.

I feel torn writing this review for Kingsway Sushi because people shouldn't have high expectations for a Chinese-owned Japanese AYCE restaurant to begin with. Having that notion kept in mind, I still came out of my late night meal unsatisfied. What can I say? I've had better at so many other late-night places.
Selection was minimal, sushi was ...well, sushi, and their cooked items were mediocre at best (stay away from their abysmal fried rice at all cost!). Despite all this, I should commend them for their speedy and responsive service but that's not enough of a reason to justify coming again unless I happened to be a block away. -

Pretty good for an All You Can Eat sushi restaurant.
I came here for lunch and the service was, dare I say... friendly?! For a Chinese own and run place, that's asking for a lot, - especially for AYCE. The prices are perfect for lunch and fish was fresh.
My only gripe is the thin sliced fish on top of a lot of rice, but they need to make their money back somewhere right? Fill you up on rice, hoping that you'll eat less. Think that'll stop me though? Hah, I live and breathe sushi! -

Because of my love of sushi, I occasionally partake in the all you can eat madness, but after my time here, I'm going back to my high end a la carte goodness.
Service was fast, but with multiple servers, you get very little bonding time. I'm not keen on that type of service because I like to develop a "relationship" with my server, and give gratuities based on said service.
Sushi was ok, but not the best I ever had. If you can't stand fish skin, DON'T have the BC roll. I found out the hard way by biting into rough fish skin, and running to the bathroom to get it from my system. In fact, I can still taste it if I think about it.
I paid the entire bill, as I was treating a group of interns who work with me. The debit doesn't give a tip option, so I was preparing to leave cash, but before I could do that, one of my multiple servers informed me I didn't leave a tip (WTF), and when I put a fiver down ($4.00 too much in my eyes after that comment), she swooped in to pick it up, without ever picking up a dish from our over crowded table. Service was rude, and that, threw me over the edge.
I'm over this place and will never eat there again. In fact if you want to go, there are a few other all you can eat places on the same street. Try one of those instead. -

Never had a bad experience here. I never eat fried/grilled stuff and only eat the fish so I've always had a great experience. I love how fast the services is, regarding the comment on wanting a relationship with their waiter this is the wrong joint, all you can eat is meant for massive amounts of food and family time not talking to a waiter. I love this place and enjoy the fast pace services and good food.

Who doesn't love sashimi? I was lured here to try out the geoduck sashimi, but wish I hadn't.
To get the geoduck you have to go with the deluxe dinner menu ($30.95). Pretty sure that's the most expensive AYCES in Vancouver. But hey, if the quality matched, I wouldn't mind.
We starting off with a gorging of sashimi. This was my 1st real taste of geoduck and I'm pretty sure it was 'off'. Fishy tasting, it was for sure not fresh. The rest of the sashimi also lacked freshness. I was excited to see wild salmon the the list, but it suffered too. However the torched mackerel was very good.
The rest of the dishes we ordered were definitely mass produced a little too early. Nothing memorable.
Two stars for free underground parking and relatively pleasant service. -
Review from Ben C.
I had to come back and update my review (+1 star). The service here is really getting up there, and almost unexpected at a casual all you can eat place.
Just an example. I was ordering my first slew of yummy japanese food. By the time i got down to the middle of my order (the server is still standing at our table), the first few items I ordered were being placed on my table! C'mon, that's impressive!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I stop by here for lunch sometimes, and get take-out every now and then. At lunch, the place is always packed with people from nearby offices and students getting a full meal for their money. It's $10 for the cheaper AYCE menu, and $13 for the full one - so it's almost on par as to what I'd pay if I went somewhere else to order a meal. The take out has 20% off I think, 30% off if you have a Top Gun Card. The card only gets you 10% off the AYCE here, as opposed to 20% at their dim sum place in Crystal Mall.
The food here is okay. They recently changed up their menu and removed the salmon salad roll (which was probably the best item there) but brought back the much-missed deep fried shrimp bombs. Seriously, I could just eat plate after plate of these. The chicken karaage is good as well. Otherwise, the rest of the items are pretty straightforward. Sashimi can be added (at a per piece basis) to the AYCE during lunch.
Their mango pudding is not the greatest I've had. There are no real pieces of mango, but it does taste decent. They seem to do really well with the deep-fried selection. The beef terriyaki is good, and the agadashi tofu is always piping hot when it arrives. The ordering system is speedy fast - we usually have something at our table as we're just finishing up our order.
But I've definitely had issues here before when ordering - sometimes food wouldn't come for an extended period of time, even though I see the same item going to other people's tables. One time something arrived at our table that I for sure did not order. I tried to explain to them that this wasn't ours, and they kept saying "but you wanted it" without understanding that they misheard me and tapped at something else on their system.
Regardless, the food is decent - there's certainly a lack of sushi in the area - and the prices are on par to what I would pay for a regular lunch meal. It's a great place for them to be I think, so kudos to them for the smart business plan. -
Review from Angela L.
This very busy all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant is popular for many good reasons. Not only is it located in an area that lacks good competition, but the large menu and availability of seating are big bonuses as well.
On a busy weekend evening, my family decided to sit up at the sushi bar for the view of the chefs and quicker service. We tried pretty much everything on the menu (some of them twice!) and left extremely satisfied with the better than average quality (of most) of the dishes and the friendly and efficient service. -
Review from Kitty Stephanie L.
I came here yesterday, and I am so disappointed. My friends like it. So eh. But I've been to plenty all-you-can-eat places, and this is one of the worst. (sorry buddies)
To start off, I thought that they finished their lunch at 2:30pm (points at the time of operation on this page) But they actually close for lunch at 2:00pm. We got there at 1:55pm, and they told us that we can sit, but if we want to order anything AFTER 2:00pm, we'll have to pay the dinner price. My friends and I have been planning this for AGES, so we shrug and went in and order everything. Food came...
and the food was so NOT in the quantity that we ordered. I ordered a TOTAL of 5 calamaris, only ONE DISH OF CALAMARI came out. SERIOUSLYYY?? I ordered a total of 20 Salmon Sushi, and only came out with 10. It PISSED me off because we couldn't order anymore. So they basically ripped us off.
Their selection sucks. I ended up eating 6 plain udons, an oyster, and 2 BBQ chicken wings. The only sushi that I like eating was the Salmon one. So I was really upset.
Other places like Richmond Sushi actually have a WAY bigger sushi selection, like masago, and imitation crab for lunch. But not here.
Would recommend it if you are a kinda-sushi fan, if you are a hard-core sushi fan, don't come here for lunch, only about 33% of their menu is sushi. -
Review from Edward L.
If you've lived in Vancouver for a while, you're already familiar with places such as Richmond Sushi, which is owned by Top Gun Group.
Kingsway Sushi is another one of TG's businesses, so if you've eaten at Richmond Sushi, you already know the deal. You can get your nigiri, cones, teriyaki, etc.
What sets this place apart is their $5 upgrade. This opens up the Sashimi menu, and the selection is quite staggering. It's not uncommon to see people devouring hordes of dead animals, and we're definitely not talking about the same species either. Jacques Cousteau would be rolling in his grave.
Parking is rather lacking, as there are maybe 10 spots at most in this plaza on the roof level. There is street parking and a lower level (not sure if you can park here though), but as this building is on a steep hill, you do have to work your legs a bit.
For those of you looking for food in the Metrotown area, don't forget about this place~Listed in: AYCE Sushi

Went back to this place for a bday dinner a couple nites ago & it was a better experience than the previous time I was there for lunch. There are 2 AYCE dinner menus for $24 & $31 so we went for the $24 one. One positive was finding wild salmon sushi on both menus while the $31 one also has wild salmon sashimi. The other was both menus had beef tataki & beef sashimi. One has a sesame flavored sauce & the other has a more vinegar type sauce but both were delicious. The $31 menu obviously has a larger selection across the board included its sushi & sashimi sections. The trade off of the $24 menu compared to Tomokazu & Ninkazu is a smaller sashimi section & probably the sushi section as well but it did feature wild salmon sushi instead. Next time I hope to try the $31 menu. Avoid the 2 types of sundae rolls...very disgusting & unappetizing. They're house creations that have a cube of green lime jello on top. Definitely goes against traditional sushi principles. I'm not really a fan of sushi that deviates too much from traditional forms. These are just their own creations they hope that will stand out which it does but for the wrong reasons. The cali rolls were also gross. Its artificial crab meat couldn't look more artificial if they tried. It looked so dry & unappetizing. Don't expect service to be like that in a high end eatery. It's a no nonsense volume operation...get in & out.

I only come here for the All You Can Eat dinner. The food comes out at lightning speed. I think it's because a lot of things are pre-made including their grilled/fried foods and it's left sitting on a table waiting for someone to order it. Gross. I think they reheat food in the microwave too because sometimes the plastic plate that the food is on is super hot. Their deep fried scallop is pretty good because the few times that I have ordered this it has come fresh out of the deep fryer. The quality of the food is bad.
I notice they use all the what I call reject parts to make the dishes for AYCE. Yes I know it's a buffet so you eat what is available but don't you want to hold up a good reputation? The servers are so cheap. They'll intentionally not punch in all the items you are ordering or pretend to forget to bring dishes to your table or stop your orders because they think you're going to be too full to finish all of the food. It drives me nuts when I'm sitting around waiting for a dish to come out...thinking it's going to come out and asking the server 20 minutes later where it is and then they tell you sorry our time limit is almost up...WTF?!
This place has always been a last resort for me. I'd rather pay a little more somewhere else for better quality food. I always feel dirty going to this restaurant because there's always food on the ground or on the chair and yes alway you can find food stains on the chairs. The table is never cleaned properly too so....I say...GO try Toyama! -

Went here after the MEDA Bazaar with the girls and we were hungry.
We used to frequent Top Gun @ the Quay so thought we would hit this place up.
Service was good.
Sushi was decent. Good AYCE.
Some will argue that there is better sushi to be had and I agree. But for an AYCE place it is good sushi.
Next time I'm in the area craving an insane amount of food I'll be back =) -

My brother and sister-in-law have been going to Kingsway Sushi for a while, and decided to take my mother there to celebrate her birthday. I Tagged along for quality control.
The staff is friendly, and the service is astoundingly quick. Their use of wireless terminals means that the food can start hitting the table before you've even finished ordering. Unfortunately, like many all-you-can-eat places, some of the stuff you order can get lost in the process. (But then again, that's no big deal: just order it again.)
At dinner time, there are two menus, and everybody at your table has to order from the same menu. The only thing that I really crave on the longer and more expensive menu is goma ae, but as much as I love goma ae, it's not really worth the $7 difference between the menus, so we went with the standard menu. Even with its limitations, the standard menu still has dishes that I haven't seen at any other sushi place .
(The "sundaes" don't involve any ice cream. They're sort of truncated cones which sit flat on the plate. Also, fair warning, they COOK the salmon belly. Maybe that's a traditional Japanese dish, but to me, cooking fish in a sushi place is just plain wrong. On the other hand, if you're with a gastronomic coward who whines about not wanting to eat raw fish, order them the salmon belly and then loom menacingly if they dare to complain about it.)
The price is higher than other all-you-can-eat sushi places that I've been to, but the food really is good. Maybe not as good as the kind of sushi place where you can drop $50 per plate, but I'm not rich, so I wouldn't know.
The only complaint I have is the lack of goma ae and salmon maki on the standard menu.
Oh, yes. Kingsway Sushi is the first all-you-can-eat place I have ever been to which DOESN'T have a limit on the number of pieces of sashimi you can order. -
Review from Ken C.
Burnaby, BC
Kingsway Sushi is a sister restaurant to Richmond Sushi and TopGun Sushi, which in my opinion, is the sister that gets more attention from the guys. Granted it's a newer location, and Richmond's location pretty much worked out all the kinks, but it just seems that the food is better and the overall service is much nicer.
Kingsway Sushi is usually quite busy from about 5-7pm on the weekends and reservations are highly recommended if you expect to be seated at a reasonable time. There's free underground parking accessible from the side street on the weekends and I believe they validate on weekdays (not 100% sure about this).
Once you've gotten your table, had a moment to check out the menu and decide upon the "Regular" or "Deluxe" menu, a waiter/waitress will come up with their fancy PDA and take your order from you which gets sent directly to the kitchen where an army of sushi chefs work furiously to roll out your order.
If you are in a large group, the ordering process can take some time so try to be as organized as possible and combine your orders together. Sometimes you can request a piece of paper to write your order down and they'll just come back and punch it in off your list. Also expect to see some orders trimmed down a bit if they feel that it's warranted. Not a big deal anyways since you can just order more in the next round.
Being an All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) type location, you can't totally expect to have the best sushi in Vancouver, but you can expect to get sushi that you will fully enjoy and willingly stuff your face with. In my opinion, probably one of the better AYCE restaurants in town.
Kingsway Sushi is pretty much my regular location when it comes to AYCE and you'll always find me and my sushi devouring posse there whenever we get the chance. -

[looking over the other reviews] (shrug) Really?
I've been here for late night (~$13) and most recently for dinner (~$22 + $1 weekend charge) and I honestly don't understand the rave reviews.
The late night offerings were pretty standard AYCE fare - decent quality, served up quickly, at the standard price - wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am. On late night alone, I would give Kingsway Sushi 3/5 stars - A-OK!
However, the dinner offerings were lacking. There's a deluxe AYCE menu for $29 and a standard dinner menu for $22 (plus $1 for weekend and holidays). For $30, I rather eat at a higher quality a la carte sushi place - so I opted for the standard dinner AYCE. For $23, it was just the regular items you can get at lunch/dinner AYCE (no unagi, etc.) with unlimited sashimi. For the same money, other AYCE joints offer far greater selection. From what I remember, Ebei has more better sashimi with more choices, Fish On Rice has items like ebi tempura, Shabusen has Korean BBQ and even Top Gun (the sister store) has more items with a better view. I felt ripped off paying dinner AYCE sushi prices for late night sushi selection and quality. This place is a lot like Richmond Sushi -- this is not a compliment.
Unlike most AYCE sushi places, the waitresses take your orders via their PDA system - so it's quick. I actually start receiving food before I finished ordering! Some may like this, but I like have the paper slip order forms so you and your group can huddle together on how much to order. Maybe I'm just shy about having the waitress stand there as I list off my gluttonous desires (and as other people chirp in with their orders). Plus, they still do the usual habit of 'accidentally' dropping your orders despite the techie 'efficiency'. There were a few items we didn't receive (long after we received everything else as everything is pre-made) but when I checked with the waitress and she 'checked' the order on her PDA to confirm it's on it's way, it would magically appear in less than a minute.
Most of the food quality is pretty solid - except some really horrible items got served to us. For example, the gummy ika kaarage was clearly microwaved and with most of the salmon sashimi was good, except for one order which looked it was rescued from going into a maki roll (it was the size of my fingernail!).
Service is never good at AYCE joints - but the busboy literally threw plates onto the table and the waitresses, while was nice, was far too busy to refill tea. I need lubrication to help slide more sushi down my throat!
Finally, they try to hard-sell you when you pay the bill on getting a Top Gun group VIP card for ~$25 for 10% off future visits to sister restaurants - umm, no thanks.
Overall, not the worst AYCE sushi but far from great. It seems decent during late night and lunch - but go elsewhere for dinner.Listed in: East Van Eateries, Shots Fired

Gripping belly...so stuffed...rolling out of here....uuggghh....
no matter how often i come here, i promise myself that i wouldn't go overboard the next time--- but i do it anyway. =) i love all-u-can-eat sushi!!
i have been to many sushi joints that offer the infamous 4-word meal...but this would definitely be one of the better ones. You can't expect too high of quality when it comes to all-u-can-eat but maybe its just me, the food is slightly better than others i have tried...
few sweet highlights in the menu that i have never seen anywhere else:
deep fried lobster balls * drizzled with a sweet n sour sauce, yumyum!
deep fried scallops * with a tangy mayo sauce...delish!
sushi sundaes * rolled sushi with various 'toppings' like: lobster delight, scallop pearl, hawaiin flame and creamy salmon! this was such a delight to eat the first time i tried them!
the mango pudding has the coconut jelly in it...my favorite!
very clean...always busy!! its extremely warm inside too...friendly staff although sometimes a little slow. they have a few private rooms for bigger parties...
Great location as well! you can start a day with a morning coffee at starbucks...scoot on over to have a 10 min tan...then work up a sweat at bikhrams yoga before you eat a monster meal (so you dont feel so bad) then head across the street to the park for an after meal walk.... all in that little corner!Listed in: Jappy Sushi Eats!

Review from Carl W.
I was told that Vancouver was the place to get really cheap and delicious sushi/sashimi, but thus far all the places I went to in downtown let me down. I started driving back east to Burnaby on Kingsway when I spotted Kingsway Sushi on my left while waiting for a light. It's located on Kingsway at Boundary, which is the road that is, well, the boundary between Vancouver and Burnaby. It was getting late and I was hungry, so I swung a U and checked this place out.
The wait was minimal, less than 5 minutes, and the place was pretty full, including a party of 18 they somehow managed to fit in the middle. The all-you-can-eat was an impressive $20/each. All of the wait staff took your orders - on their Blackberries, and then they emailed your order in or something. It was nifty and the service, while not necessarily friendly, was extremely efficient. The sashimi slices were just as thick as they needed to be (compared to the razor thin slices I had earlier in the week at other places downtown) and they even had RACK OF LAMB as part of the menu. And they weren't dinky little pieces either. They were small of course but it was damn tasty. The dining area was clean and we stuffed ourselves silly. The menu was pretty sizable, and apparently they have an even cheaper late night menu. I left extremely satisfied and glad that I made the spontaneous jump.
Later I looked this place up online and found out that a lot of people didn't like this place. Maybe the real locals know what good sushi is and I'm just a poor sap who takes whatever he can get. All I know is, I'll be coming back. Some day, when it's cheaper to fly up.
Also a big shout out to British Columbia in general for accepting my US dollars at parity without any problem. -

I been back to Kingsway Sushi after the management change. They got rid of several items that I used to entertain often from the all you can eat menus. No Edamame in the late-night menu really sucks. Other than that, the service and food is still as good as ever.

This place is about two mins away from my house. I went there once, and not ever again. They had poor service when I went. I only went with two other people, small orders and they somehow still managed to mess it up. Their udon was too salty and the rice for the sushi was too sticky.

good deal and good quality for AYCE sushi.. about $14 for late nite which starts at 930pm.. they are closed on tuesdays as an FYI
food comes out lightning quick.. u don't use the paper sheets to check off items.. they use handheld electronic devices to punch in your order which goes straight to the kitchen
lobster rolls.. bbq items.. alaska rolls.. gyoza.. all great stuff!
part of the Top Gun Family of Restaurants.. you can also get a discount card which may be worth it if you plan on going to these restaurants several times in a year -

This isn't a place for the sushi lovers. It caters to mostly the 'all you can eat crowd'. The menu is basic. It has all the basic rolls you would expect. The service was fast and decent. We had the spicy tuna sashimi which was good, the unagi roll which was also very good, but the tempura was a but overbattered for our taste and the top gun roll, which was there only creation was a deep fried spicy tuna roll was not that good. Overall there was nothing special about this restaurant and will most likely not go back.
