The King is about one thing, and one thing only: the broth. That divides most pho-devotees in the city, as you will find Tau Bay lovers or King Noodle lovers, and there are differences, so find your favourite.

The meat is alright, but there are better choices for meatballs and for brisket in the city. The noodles are tender, but nothing special. So that leaves the broth. I can only manage to get part of a small bowl down, but it still does not stop me from enjoying it.

Even when I lived in Asia I craved this place. I missed the simple things about it - the haphazard "decor", lemon soda, the half smile my husband manages to get from the owner (both share mustache styles), the smell of the just delivered to the table soup.

I've always been a fan and will continue to be one even after I move out of Edmonton again. Broth baby, BROTH!

Before they moved here from their old location on 107 ave 111th street or something like that, their food, was very good, tasty and worth the money. I used to order the large, the # 1 special on the menu, it comes out fast, in a huge bowl with a good amount of meat. But when they moved to the china town location they are at now, food still comes out fast, but ive found that they give less portions of noodles and meat, and sometimes the soup is flavorless and plain, so i have to add on a lot of the condiments, like hoisin sauce and stuff. They need to change back to their old ways. The decor in the restaurant is a little old, and very small, its like impossible to get a seat there during lunch hours. Its a family run place, the guy with the moustach   isnt so polite himself, but his son and daughter are very generous and good servers.
I wish i could give this place more than 2 stars, but sadly they have to earn it back.

When Tau Bay is closed for vacation, I feel like a lamb lost in the woods. What am I to do with myself when the city is overcast, chilly, and rainy? In a reluctant move of desperation, my hubby and I decided to check out King Noodle, as people with more flexibile pho loyalties seem to recommend it.

And I have to say, it's good. Hearty bowls, genuine rich flavour -- their broth is different from TB, which I still think has a superior taste, but it's good. Places beyond King Noodle and Tau Bay seem to really fail at the quality of their broth, but King Noodle's broth has no powdery, oily -- or worse yet -- bland taste. The meat and noodle quality is comparable, too.

Service is... serviceable, but nothing unexpected. We almost accidentally got someone else's order, but it was split-second rectified. I also appreciate that every table had all the utensils, condiments, and napkins at your disposal, so you don't have to ask.

It's a tad more expensive than TB and with less tables, but there is something mildly amusing about the owner's curled moustache. I guess this is a place I would go to the next time I crave pho but TB is closed.

The 'decor' of the place struck me as soon as I walked in. 1970s circa 1982. Brown leathery chairs, mirrors on the wall, strings of little red lights, and of course, the moustache. Such ambiance. Love it.

I ordered a small steak and flank - $6.95. Dave got a large - $7 something. As with any place, the soup came out in a matter of minutes. This is potentially the tastiest pho I've had on my pho journey so far! So many noodles (I love noodles), a fair amount of meat (but not too much. I usually can't finish all the meat in pho), not greasy or oily. I like how the little side plate had the hot pepper and some jalepeno slices.

And the owner just ads to the mystery of the place. A pretty quiet guy with an amazing moustache, he seemed to be the only person there - in and out of the kitchen - and on his down moments was watching some Asian TV show behind the counter.

The great pho, unpretentious decor and mysterious owner all add up to make this a restaurant worth visiting.

Disappointed. Staying in Edmonton for a week, thought I'd yelp a pho place. Got the special- broth was underwhelming, bland, flavorless. Had to add a ton of Siracha and hoisin and still was not satisfied. Toppings were skimpy, definitely not enough meat. The moustached owner was a grump, not very nice.

King Noodle is a great Pho place.  The only downside is that they only accept cash.  The service is decent but the food is great.  The only thing I don't like about these types of places is that it is a pain in the ass to get water.  I guess they figure if it's not generating revenue, then why serve it right?...wrong!

I drink a lot of water and when I have to ask for it 18 times, it takes away from the overall experience.  If they could keep my damn water glass full, I'd give it another star but for now they get 3.

I will always return for a decent lunch but it'll never be my first choice.

The pho was decent, came out fast steaming hot. Service was good, the moustache was definately noticed. Call me picky but I couldn't get over the smell of the carpet and the restaurant in general, almost like a moldy dirt odour mixed with cleaning solutions. Couldn't stop staring at the hot sauce/hoisin bottles so gross looking. Not coming back not worth getting sick for sorry Mustachio

Absolutely my favorite noodle shop in Edmonton. Nice big bowls for decent prices. Richer broth and better veggies than most too. Kind of a run down looking place but sometimes there's nothing better. I haven't tried anything outside of the soup. 9 times of 10 that I do go here, I get the Bun Bo Hue.

    Cash only!

    Delicious Pho!

Mustacio isn't the most friendly but I really like his no-nonsense approach to running a fine soup-house.

Unfortunately there are No vegetarian dishes available.

Good pho! My friend enjoys the spicy lemongrass noodles (bun bo hue) but i love the pho. I find the soup has great flavour n noodles can sometimes be a little on the soft side but overall really good. One of the better places for pho in Edmonton

I am not be a pho connoisseur, but my friends who are swear by this restaurant. I was a little hesitant to go here, as the Chinatown area can be a bit sketchy at times. If you disregard this, you will be greeted with one of the busiest yet most delicious pho restaurant in the city. It might not look like much on the outside, but this is one of Chinatown's hidden gems.

Orders here come really quickly and hot from their kitchen. The interior leaves a lot to be desired, but you have to remember you're coming here for the food, and not staying long for the decor. I ordered the King Pho dish. A huge bowl came out with noodles soaked in a rich broth, topped with chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, squid, fish sauce, cilantro, basil, and their signature 'herb thing' (looks like a dandelion). Despite having all of these ingredients, I never felt overwhelmed by the different flavors, nor was I hungry after this. The dish was very satisfying, and the price was very reasonable as well.

Make sure you have cash when you pay here. One of the highlights of this restaurant also has to be the owner + chef, who has a big handle-bar moustache. Seeing him makes the place less dodgy.

I'm an avid Pho eater (3 times a week usually) from Toronto. In general if you want the best food in Canada, you'll find it in either Toronto or Montreal.

Unfortunately for me living out east, Edmonton has the best Pho I have ever had. This is all thanks to the man with handlebar moustache, his wife, son and daughter who have put together the best bowl of soup in a very no frills environment with the most simple menu ever. Just soup. Don't look for anything else b'cause you won't find it.

I've made this a mandatory ritual for myself for the last couple years whenever I'm in town.
With that said I am meeting a freind there today and am looking forward to every ounce of that Pho.

I had my second go, just because of the raving reviews. Still not great but it was for sure a lot better then the last time though ! The soup wasn't greasy at all but the portions are still weren't great. The best part was the broth which was only really good after the copious amounts of hoisin and chili paste. So to come to a final decision about this place, I don't think I will be back.

Moustache man! is what I affectionately like to call this restaurant in honor of the owner/chef's awesome handle-bar moustache throwback of King Noodle House.
I have been a moustache man fan since the day of his tiny, dingy, dirty tin box dive on 107th avenue and 111street.  Now that he's moved to a larger, (slightly) cleaner box on 97th street, it is nice to see that not much has changed.
The way I see it, the dirtier and more aesthetically unappealing an establishment is but is still filled with hungry satisfied masses lined out the door, all the more amazing the food must be as it must stand on its own with nothing to hide behind.
As a self-proclaimed pho-connoisseur in a world of highly debated area of expertise as pho and pho-soup, I will stick out my neck and declare moustache man's pho to be the best in Edmonton, if not Canada.  I admit I have not tasted every pho-joint in all of Canada, but until I try a place that is better, moustache man reigns #1 in my go-to-pho joints.
I feel the best and only way to appreciate with clarity a good pho is to have pho with rare steak.  Simple flavours not clouded or distracted by too many "ingredients in the pot".
Moustache man's soup is rich and hearty; a deep and developed flavour that's rounded and bold.  Aromatic spices that enhance the full meaty tones and pungent sweet notes that I believe come from fish sauce and grilled squid.  However rich, the soup is also light and fresh tasting at the same time with the flavours of cilantro, mints, and basil.  On top of regular basil that most pho-joints offer with your pho, moustache man also has this dandelion-leaf looking herb (I believe you can buy it at lucky 97) that is unique to Noodle King House; it's definitely tasty and adds another dimension to the broth.
The only downside is that they take cash only and are closed on Tuesdays.
So if you are getting those withdrawal shakes like I often do and the pho-addiction is acting up, make sure you've got some change in your pocket and head on down to moustache man's place.

After seeing the many positive reviews online for King Noodle, I decided to give the place another shot. The experiences of many of the writers were so different than mine, i honestly wondered if we had been to the same restaurant. Well, I know we did because I recognized some of the staff. The soup was different though. The portion was bigger - I had a small and it was huge - the noodles were the normal size and thickness that I expect in a rice noodle soup, and there was more meat in my steak and well-done brisket pho. The steak was medium, and almost dissolved into the broth, which grew richer and more flavourful as I ate. My co-worker said the same thing about her chicken pho. And at only $6.95 for a small ($7.95) for a large, it is still one of the best deals going in Chinatown. It's cash only, with quick service.
