    I LOVE KIM'S MART!!!!!!!!!!!

    Double-love, exclamation point.

Their produce is inexpensive, and they have

    different types of salt (favourite!)
fresh and dried ramen for sale (my noodle of choice)
tons of kimchi (best probiotic condiment ever)
a killer rice selection (including short-grain brown rice, for you healthy sushi-holics)

plus tofu, a butcher counter with short ribs, pork belly slices, and marinated meats, plus fresh squid, for those of you on the lookout.

The employees are really nice, too!

Come here for an affordable, healthy, delicious shopping extravaganza.

I love Kims Mart for their beautiful (and inexpensive) produce and their awesome selection of exotic noodle, fish and meat things. I especially love their Korean sushi, which for $2.99 makes a healthy, filling, and delicious lunch.

The Buy Low at Kingsgate Mall is closer to me, but I'll gladly go the extra couple of blocks if I don't need staples (such as flour, eggs, milk, cheese) to go to Kim's Mart instead.

I'm only giving Kim's Mart four stars instead of 5, because the people who keep the shelves stocked always seem so aggravated that you're shopping and thus blocking their path. By "seem aggravated" I mean, will almost run you over if you stand between their cart and the carrot bin they're trying to re-fill. It's such a weird quirk, I sort of find it charming unless I'm already in a grumpy mood and then it makes me grumpier. And they are ALWAYS re-filling, stocking etc. in the middle of the day. Sometimes several carts at once, and the store is very small with very narrow isles, so when the cart comes barreling towards you, often the only way to avoid a collision is to back-up out of the way.

But I do love Kim's Mart!

Just after coming down from the recently opened Sakuraya Japanese supermarket, we went downstairs for our Korean goodies.  My Korean ancestry keeps me coming back to get my corn tea, and chili spices, so we had to come downstairs to get my fix.

I found some new stuff to cook with.  Super spicy ramen, Acorn starch, Millet in various forms and black wild rice.

Interstingly being diabetic you can't eat sweet stuff, or sugary stuff. you have to stay away from the common starches and carbs that can turn into bad sugars.
Like white rice.  But a diabetic diet without carbs isn't healthy and you need to get some good carbs into your diet somehow.  This is in the format of whole grains.  Stuff that isn't overly processed like white flours and sugars.

Regular brown rice can be a bit toothsome and husky.  I like to eat Japanese or Korean brown rice now and then.  I also like the wild rice.  Which they have here at Kim's Mart.

Go to the back and they have Korean style cut meats and seafood.

Now, I'm trying to figure a way to make decent tasting Korean food but without all that salt and sugar.  It's going to be tough, but I'll find a way to make it work healthy, tasty and diabetic friendly.

Kims is part of my venture into this forray of culinary Korean goodness to a better wholesome foodstyle.

Parking is ample with street parking and in the back.

Love this place! For such a small market they carry an incredibly wide array of products. The reason I keep coming back here is because they have their own meat counter with prepackaged sliced beef, pork, etc. and they have a Korean deli section!

Not getting enough MSG in your diet? No problem. You can find it here, at this well-appointed little Asian supermarket, in a variety of flavoured crispy snacks: jerkey jerkey, banana, octopus. I didn't see any namtog - maybe they were sold out this time.

Naturally, you can stock up on your choco-pies or kewpie mayo. There's a good selection of wasabi peas; some vegies I'd never heard of; and, of course, heaps of sauces to choose from.

I love this Korean Market. They have a terrific in-store made selection including: kimbap (veggie sushi roll), myulchibokkeum (stir fried anchovy), Yachaejeon (veggie pancake), and Dukbokgi (spicy rice cake). Dinner is served!

I do not have an indoor grill, so I tried placing the marinated short beef ribs in the oven and it was still VERY flavourful. Buy their kimchi in tubs to keep as a staple, it will make a quick meal with a bowl of rice and kim nori (roasted seaweed) which sells conveniently in bulk packages. Their frozen mackerel is pretty fresh as well. And no visit is complete if I do not pick up at least one spicy instant noodle package....

I had Kim's Mart cater for my little birthday bash -- kimbap, japchae  (glass noodles, spinach, carrots, onions, etc.), mung bean pancake [bindaedduk] , assortment of pan-fried fish in egg batter [saengseon jeon] , and marinated bulgogi -- and for less than $200, we fed almost 70 people. The food was a hit, and I couldn't believe how much care they took in preparing the menu for me. Awesome people.

This little Korean market has the lowest prices for produce in the area and it is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can find octopus. If you're a pescetarian and you live in Mount Pleasant, this is a required pit stop in your grocery shopping travels.
