Going to this hair salon is really a case of Hair Stylist Synchronicity, I think.

This salon is actually now named "Beauty Creation Hair and Nail Spa" but it's at the same location.

The name changed early in 2012 as former owner/stylist Tina sold the business at the end of 2011 while remaining there as a stylist.

Tina is the main reason I go here. Actually, to be completely accurate, she's the only reason I go there.

In 2004, I started going to Tina for my hair cuts/styles when she worked at Bliss Beauty Bar in the Champlain Centre on Kerr Street. I'd had a bad experience at Jack Hair for Men (see my review) and was looking for a good stylist.

She was good, and the cut was not too expensive. I went to her for a few months, then she stopped working there, and I eventually went elsewhere as I was unhappy with the stylists still working there.

I did find a good stylist eventually, but a part of me had always wished I was still going to Tina. (When I find a place or a person that provides great service, I am very reluctant to go elsewhere).

Then, in the spring of 2011 my stylist left the salon where she was working and two months later I walked into Killarney Hair & Esthetics Services - still searching for a new stylist - and there was Tina!

    Hence, the Synchronicity.

She still did a really good job on my hair - and at half the price of what I was paying at my previous salon! - so I'm pretty happy with the service (and she's a really nice person, too) so I continue to go there.

There were a few times when she seemed really busy, with clients stacked up, but I've found since she sold the business and just focuses on being a stylist, that has not been the case.

My one small complaint has nothing to do with Tina or her service: There have been a few times when the person(s) booking my appointment has mixed up the appointment time, but it has yet to cause a real problem in terms of my scheduling.

I can't really speak to any of the other services or stylists, as I've only ever gone to Tina. As long as she works there, I'll continue to go there for my hair styling needs as price and the product are both right.

I started going to this salon when my former hair stylist bought the property and re-branded.

The salon was a little dingy when it first re-launched, but Tina did a decent job if re-modeling and upgrading the facilities. She even brought in a fantastic nailtech, Rose, who unfortunately isn't there anymore... But more on that later!

Initially, my cut and color services with Tina were fantastic. She was always very attentive and put a lot of effort into her work - I referred many of my friends to her because of this. However, as time went on it became obvious that being both an owner and a stylist was a bit much for her. The quality of her services declined and she was constantly running late (sometimes as much as an hour) because she was trying to cram in every client that came through the door. She also started to push products on me really aggressively. I have no problem saying no, but she made me uncomfortable because she was practically begging and then got a little moody when I gave a firm "No thank you".  I had no problem paying a little extra for my services when I was getting superior treatment from Tina, but I made the choice to go to Juice (see other review) when I could no longer justify the money I was spending against the results I was getting.  I felt like I'd almost be treated better at a Great Clips location, and that my fellow Yelpers, is depressing.

Needless to say, I left a few times quite displeased and feeling unimportant. Also, I found it highly unprofessional that Tina allowed the guy she was seeing and her young children full run of the salon. There was a few times when I came in and the kids were throwing paper airplanes around the salon... Her "boyfriend" strolled in and out of the shop as he pleased and often gave HER orders (clean this, do that this way, no that is wrong)? He was rude to clients and bossed the owner around in her own space, VERY unattractive.  (Minus stars here!)

As for the services I received from Rose: Her gel nails were always a smash hit. I've gotten dozens and dozens of compliments on the work she's done on my nails; all the way from plain French tips to crazy 3-d art, she was fab!  Her prices were always very reasonable and she often gave loyal clients a few bucks off here and there. Very appreciated! I would NEVER trust my nails to another tech EVER! Let me be VERY clear: Rose is the only reason this review didn't get one star.

Unfortunately, as of December, the salon has changed hands again. Rose was let go and Tina will remain on the staff for stylist services only. From what I know, Rose will be opening her own space soon, this month I believe. I will make sure to jump on that review, too.

If you are looking for a quick walk-in trim or a wash and blow dry, Killarney Hair would probably meet your needs. I hope that Tina can get back to the great stylist she once was, but I won't be holding my breath or returning.
