I have lived in this neighborhood for around 10 years and have made this my regular sushi place for the last 6 or so years.
Their food is absolutely delicious, caterpillar roll is awesome! Baked salmon is delicious, and they have recently added new items to the menu which are also very tasty.
The food can get a little pricy, especially the premium sushi rolls but they are definitely worth every penny. -

I have a thing for hole-in-the-wall sushi joints. I find they're usually the best ones, cheaper and more accessible than the large, splashy, Robson Street type places. Kiku is no exception.
The place is located in a kind of strip mall, across the parking lot from a London Drugs store on Kingsway. It happens to be right near my work, which is why I first stopped in. I've kept going back because of the food. Particularly, the sashimi box.
This combination is exactly right. You get some tuna and salmon sashimi (always good quality -- I actually find I like the salmon better sometimes, which is unusual since I mostly prefer tuna), some chicken teriyaki, a couple pieces of tempura and a miso soup. You also get a little green salad and fried banana, which frankly I could leave because I think the banana is not a fruit that lends itself to cooking, except when baked into bread.
Kiku is a busy little place, so if you're in a rush, I'd avoid it at lunchtime during the week. Also, it's not the cheapest sushi on the block: the combo I mentioned will run you about 11 bucks. But for me, it's the Buffet Philosophy of eating--I'll pay a little more to get exactly the food I want. However, given the number of good, cheap sushi joints, I'll take one star from this place for the higher prices. -

Fresh and tasty sushi. We usually bring home some tempura and a teriyaki dish as well. The decor is comfortable and quiet. Good place to dine alone with a book if you are in the mood, or use the take-out menu. Take out service is fast. Place your order, grab an item at London Drugs and come back to pick up and head home.

I think this is a great little place in Burnaby. My parents actually introduced me to it, as it's their favourite local sushi place and I actually agree. Personally my favourite of theirs is the 'Winter California Roll', which I think is a great, unique roll and I wish it would catch on with more places because I think it's delicious! Other than that everything is good, decent sashimi, good combos, etc.

I fear that I'm going to become their frequent customer. For a man who doesn't eat out much, Kiku's sushi are something to behold. I have only been there twice and I am already deep in love with their rolls, especially the House Roll. If you ever go there definitely order one. You will find it's packed with contents. Their rolls don't have too much rice, which is good because you can fully enjoy the sensation of the contents inside. I have been to many restaurants who either put too much rice in their rolls, or too much 'cheap' food inside. The rice is not sticky, so you can pick it up with your hands without worrying having to wipe it every time. I wouldn't say their portions are huge, as I have seen bigger. But their sushi excels in quality and taste. The fish is always fresh, the fried food is crispy yet not greasy. And they serve their dish pretty fast too. Although their customer service may not be too attentive. The first time I went there the waitress never came to refill my tea. But nothing beats delicious food, right?
