So I plan on donating a Kidney.

That's not a joke actually. I really am hoping to donate one of my Kidney's in the very immediate future. My Uncle is in need and I am the best one for the job. Its time for me to find out what is the best and fastest way to get through the testing part to find out if I am in fact a perfect match. However, my first obstacle was this morning. I tried to book an appointment with my family doctor, then I tried any family doctor in the city. But the bad news is, all I got were busy signals and answer machines saying that the family practice's voice mail is all filled up.

A bit frustrating when you literally know that someone's life is at stake. But luckily, after a bit of researching online, I found the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Nova Scotia branches number. Now, I am an avid surfer on the web, but for some reason, it was tough to find this website. But after I did I found a very easy to read website with tons of great information about Kidney Donation, what to expect and who to talk to!

So I made a phone call and found a lovely woman named Marie on the other line. She is the Office Administrator and one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to talk to over the phone. I told her of my situation and that I needed guidance to find out how to get tested as soon as I could. She told me she would e-mail me the information once she put it together. Of course I was worried that I would get the information days later, but quickly found out why I shouldn't make assumptions. In a matter of thirty minutes she sent an e-mail with all the information. Now I am on my way thanks to her.

In a medical system where people seem to be treated like numbers more often than not, it is refreshing to find people who really care and want a happy ending to a story such as this. Marie was professional, caring, and did her best to ensure I knew where to go next. But the Foundations website also needs compliments because it is very informative and gives anyone with questions about Kidney's a strong, helpful place to start.
