This review is based off 1 brunch service there in December 2011
Love this menu. The praline bacon, beignets, cafe au lait, and, brisket hash were all incredible.
Awesome beers- Bell's Sparkling on tap is always a plus.
Ended up buying a couple gift certs for friends who I knew would enjoy it.
Gotta get back there for dinner. -

Delicious! Po boys, one of the few places out of the south that does hush puppies and po boys semi correctly.
Great beer list. Fair prices. Good staff, although not too knowledgeable about food because a lot of them are vegetarian or vegan.
For a place that caters to that crowd ,the meat there is good! And there's something for everyone to enjoy. Most of the barbecue is good Although the brisket is a bit fatty.
The baked beans are deliciously smokey, and we always order it. Although some days they're better than others.
Prices are good. Everything is filling.
There ay be a bit of. Wait on busy days, although they're always busy. But we get seated quickly and served quickly.
Love it! -

Popped in here on a Sunday afternoon while wandering around Olde City. Luckily, it wasn't very busy (yet), so seats at the bar were plentiful. After ogling the draft selections, I decided on a Sly Fox Gang Aft Agley, a pretty decent Scottish Wee Heavy. Followed that up with a Thornbridge Raven, which was an interesting Black IPA.
We passed on getting something to eat, but the Bacon Grease popcorn sounded very intriguing for a future visit. The service was great, as was the atmosphere. I can definitely see why Khyber is consistently rated as one of Philadelphia's "Top Bars."
Lastly, a visit to the one uni-sex restroom (photo) capped off a fun, relaxing visit.
Note: My funny photo of the modified restroom sign that said "Employees Must Wash Anus" was deemed inappropriate and removed by the Yelp powers that be. Sorry. -

I"m a vegetarian, which means that any place that can simulate meat foods without actually being meat immediately gets 4 stars. The vegan pulled "pork" was phenomenal! I ordered the greens as my side, which made me nostalgic for the south (minus all of the defunct/antiquated moral codes). The bar has a great selection of drafts, too. One from my hometown Erie, PA in fact!
The only downside that my friends and I experienced was the service. One of the servers was very rude. When we complained about the time it took for our beers to arrive, she side stepped the apology and made a sarcastic remark about the bartender. We were very disappointed with her, and most of us at the table who had been servers couldn't imagine ever acting like she did. The male busboy and/or server seemed very apologetic and he was very friendly. But, if you do get the server to who I am referring, I apologize. Just savor your vegan pulled pork, your draft that takes 45 minutes to arrive, and get the hell out! -

I'm a sucker for popcorn. They have on their menu: bacon grease popcorn. Awww, yeah. Bacon grease.
Sadly, I didn't have any of it because I was trying to make room for ribs- which we barely ended up finishing. They were nice and served up with three different types of sauces so we'd have them just the way we wanted.
Tons and tons of excellent beers on rotation.
Basically, if you're in Philly for any amount of time and like beer in any capacity, you're just plain silly if you don't pay this place a visit. -

Did you ever grow up your whole life not knowing that you had a twin brother and then one day after 23 years you ran into him on the street? Me neither, but I think I had that feeling today after setting foot for the first time in the Khyber.
Let's see where to begin? The food selection-po' boys, BBQ sandwiches/platters, sides-basically comfort food. We ordered the cheese fries, vegan sausage, and North Carolina pulled pork sandwich, which came with your choice of one side-we got mac and cheese. Sweet Roy Maloy was it good!
Starting with the fries-they were the boardwalk style fries and covered in what I think was mozz-no plastic tasting fake ass cheeze wiz. The sausage was spicy and flavorful, not dried out and lacking like a lot of vegan food that I've tried. The pulled pork sandwich had the tiniest bit of vinegar in it. It was not covered in sauce. It was just plain ol' pork and quite possibly one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have ever had. Finally the mac and cheese-cheesey, gooey, breadrcumbs on top-yes please!
We ordered a Boulder Obovoid-oatmeal stout- and Oskar Blues Old Chub-a scotch ale-both delicious. They also have a pretty sweet beer selection both on tap and in bottles. Prices are standard for the area. M-F they have a happy hour 4-6 which will get you $2 off drafts.
Service was friendly and attentive

Went here after walking my ass off for a couple hours. I wasn't feeling so hot so I ended up ordering their rich and chicken soup. This was a great choice and helped me bounce into recovery and enjoy there detailed and large beer menu.
It was a bit chilly inside though.Listed in: Philly Trip

The one thing that the Olde Town has going for it, besides the incredible history, architecture and style is the beer bars. I am a fan of great beer and will go out of my way to try and find new brews. You don't have to look far in this neighborhood.
Khyber Pass Pub was on my list of places to go for good beer and I think it has to be on my list of top ten. Why? Because not only do they have excellent taste in beer, the bartenders are knowledgable, friendly and are fun to talk to about beer.
The beer selection is great, so we went with a couple ones we never tried before:
*Great Divide, Claymore Scotch Ale, Denver 7.7%APV (Incredibly delicious): http://www.yelp.com/bi...
*Lancaster Brewing Co, Strawberry Wheat 4.9%APV: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
*Evil Twin Biscotti Break, Vally Brewing Co, Denver 8.4%APV: http://www.yelp.com/bi... The Evil Twin Biscotti Break was by far one of the best brews I've had and now I'll try anything made by them.
The beers were amazing and I really would have stayed longer, but we were on a mission that night and had another stop. I will always remember the Khyber Pass Pub for good beer in Philly.Listed in: The *GREAT* American Fun in…

Seriously fantastic. Loved what I ordered; loved what I ate of my roommate's plate. I loved that there were multiple vegan options, as well as the omnivores we came with enjoying their good, meaty dishes too. I'm into the atmosphere, the beer list, the service, and the menu. No complaints here; not one!

After hearing so much about Khyber Pass Pub, a bigwig in the Philly food scene, I finally decided to grab dinner here.
Upon entering, the bartender quickly greeted us and told us to grab a seat anywhere. It took a while to get adjusted to the dim light, and no sooner had we settled down at a cozy little high-top table in the corner when our waitress came by with drinks and menus.
I wonder what's the story behind the name. If you hadn't heard anything about Khyber Pass Pub before, wouldn't you assume a place with tons of south or central Asian food? Rather, the menu here is more Southern/Cajun. And delicious, at that! We ordered mostly off the board of specials. It's heavy, bar-foody, goes-well-with-beery food. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Highlights included: the saucy, meaty wings (although the blue cheese dressing was kind of watery), the hush puppies (satisfied a months-long craving), and, of course, the mouth-wateringly-long beer list.
At times it was difficult to get the waitress's attention. But all the employees were very friendly! If I'm in the area around happy hour, expect me in there for a cold one. -

The outside looks like Hansel and Gretel's house. New Orleans style: dark and steamy (you can get all Abitas here). Beer and bourbon let's go! Also, great layout to the beer menu - and I like a lot of information about my beers. Friendly bartenders, lots of stuff to try.
Oh yeah, should I, or should I not tell you that they are playing Morrissey right now? At least it's a good one. -

How could I have never reviewed khyber?? tsk tsk tsk Nicey...
On my most recent trip to khyber we wandered in here on a whim in need of food. My companion ordered the khyber burger and a side of cheddar fries.. He thought the two were AMAZING!... I having already experienced some of the fab veg eats that khyber had to offer decided to try something new. So I ordered the Vegan sausage sandwich with some sweet potato fries...
The vegan sausage sandwich was delicious, it was chock full of flavor, and the sweet potato fries, were a bit crispier than I would have liked BUT they were still super yum.
Service was good as usual, considering how packed the place was so early on a saturday my water remained full ( which is a quite a task considering it was almost emptied EVERY TIME they refilled it) way to be on point khyber server. I love khyber, I wish I could eat every since veg food that I love every time I come, the selection of veg food is so vast, that I don't feel like I need to order the exact same thing every time, which makes me extremely happy.
Way to go Khyber, I can't wait to go back.Listed in: Vegg Friendly goodness =]

I was expecting a mountainous pass connecting Pakistan and Afghanistan but instead discovered the best mac-n-cheese I've ever had, my first experience with gourmet popcorn, and an extensive beer selection.
The ambiance is pretty cool. It's dark and a little cramped. It was busy the night we went so my party had to wait 30 minutes for a table so we headed to the bar. They have a pretty large and eclectic selection of beers on draft.
I recommend the mac-n-cheese and the Boudin Balls. The mac-n-cheese is rich and cheesy. There are crispy bread crumbs baked on top which gives this typically crunchless food a little crunch. The Boudin Balls were also excellent and the sauce they came with was traditional creole mustard with some sweetness to mellow it.
I had a bite of everyone's dish so I can say that there is nothing bad at Khyber Pass but if/when I go back I'm going to get the burger. The bbq onions, bacon, smoked cheddar, and creole mustard make this burger taste tangy and a little smokey. -

Khyber Pass has become a staple when I go out in Philly. My girlfriend and I typically go there with friends essentially for the beer. Tonight, just her and myself went there for dinner. I was pleasantly surpised. Such a casaul, diverse place yet some of the best cuisine in the city. The beer selecetion is incredible and the food there belongs on everyone's bucket list. If you haven't been....what are you waiting for?! The only thing I can think of that might improve the place is a Touch tunes. Otherwise, great beer, food, atmosphere and people. Anyone can go there and feel right at home.

Fantastic selection of beers, the most amazing vegan pulled pork sandwich (not a meal I suggest on a first date, as it's super messy, but totally worth it), a perfectly portioned side of mac and cheese, and there's a great dim atmosphere like you're in someone's den. I love it. It's a little loud in here, but that's ok, I can get over that.
The host was accommodating to us because we wanted to change where we were inititally sat. This gets extra points in my book, because I know that can be annoying. Unfortunately, those extra points were immediately taken away by our server who dropped us our check without even once asking us if we were done. To me, it's pretty rude for a server to drop a check without even once asking if a table is finished or if we wanted another round (another round that we would have bought and tipped him on). The place was pretty busy, but business is business and we weren't done. Too bad.
But, really, that's the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way about this place. -
Review from Lowell J.
Went here on St Patty's Day for a few beers and some food.
I had the vegan pulled pork sandwich which was great and my friend had their beef burger which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The staff was friendly and informative about the beer in an ever increasingly busy St. Patty's Day crowd.
I loved the vegan options, the service and the beer selection..the music wasn't bad either. A really fun place makes me wish we had something similar down here in South Florida -

The word hero gets thrown around a lot. Used to mean something. Now anyone who safely lands a jet in a river gets the term hung around their neck like some best in show county fair medal. But after a recent meal at Khyber, I've got a worthy addition: me.
While catching up with a high school friend over dinner--a who's fat, facing drug charges, or both conversation--I noticed a growing flicker of light at the table next to us. Just as I turned my head I realized it was our neighborhood's napkin lit aflame and that flicker had exploded into a thundering roar. Someone had been a little too lax in their passing-a-napkin-over-a-candle policy and now half the bar was on fire.
A gaggle of shrieking hipsters in skinny jeans pushed their way past the women and children. A few Jersey Shore types did the same, but I think that was benevolent given the flammability of their hair. Some Occupy kids stuck around to steal food off people's plates. Me, I ripped off my shirt, looked at the fire and said, "let's dance, Sally." I blacked out at this point but was later told what I did most closely resembled "beating the shit out of fireworks." The restaurant saved, I was hoisted up by the crowd and asked to become intimate by several patrons. I obliged all.
It happened this way, or I just quickly dumped water on it to the table's astonishment. Still: hero, right? Right.
4 stars for the food, led by the small army of po' boys and a Confederate-loyal militia of Southern fixins. The fried shrimp and oysters po' boy ($15) practically glistens with fryer oil off the metallic ceiling while flakes chip off the crusty Leidenheimer roll, blotting up the grease stains on your face like specks of tissue on a freshly nicked shaving job. A little pricey, but get this if you're thinking po'.
The fried chicken po' boy with ham and swiss ($12), regrettably named a "sammy," was fine but the ham was particularly dry and dragged the dish down. The hush puppies, even with their fun dipping sauces, are a bland nightmare. Mac-n-cheese, onion rings, and collard greens are legit and recommended.
5 stars because few bars match Khyber's food, beer list, and atmosphere. -

Went here for weekend brunch and have a number of complaints. First, no one mentioned to us that there were specials written on a chalkboard situated in a spot where we couldn't see from where we were sitting. We discovered that halfway through our meal when they told the people who were just seated next to us, which was too bad, as we probably would have ordered the soft-shell crab po' boy. Second, the tofu sweet potato scramble mysteriously contained no sweet potatoes. That was probably the strangest/worst part of the meal. The West Louisiana hash, on the other hand, was good, if a little greasy. Everything was actually a little greasy. The beignets and café au lait were the best part of the meal, although the café was served somewhere between hot and lukewarm. All in all, it wasn't a terrible meal, although it was a disappointing one, and I doubt I'd go back.

I'm going through this phase where I'm trying new things and after a trying day at work, I ended up here for a drink and eats with a friend last night. The place doesn't really look like much at first, but it really is a fantastic little gem. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Much to my surprise, the bacon grease popcorn was delicious although I don't recommend eating too much of it... that can't be healthy haha. It is most definitely worth trying however. I ended up with small nachos with barbecue pulled pork that I will likely be dreaming about for days because it was that damn good. With an extensive beer menu and a chill vibe (For a Thursday night at about 9p-), this will likely become a frequent haunt of mine.

Best thing to get: fried green tomato BLT. The other stuff is pretty good, but it won't send you into a food craze. The Po Boys are an interesting item, with at least 6 kinds to choose from. They do a nice job with their sweet potato fries.
It's also interesting to note that this place is extremely vegetarian and vegan friendly, serving up some seitan dishes, and advertising a very accommodating kitchen on their menu.
Cool beer selection that's definitely worth checking out. -

Easily my favorite spot to eat in Philly. Drinks are great, service is solid, and the food is unreal. The only down side is there is typically a wait on weekends, and when I know I'll be heading to the Khyber I usually don't eat all day because their portion sizes are huge, so the last thing I wanna do is wait (not their fault). I
Highly recommend this place. -

Had Fried Shrip Po Boy that was good, french fries were very good. Great selection of micro brews. Had Russian Imperial Stout and Sly Fox Odyssey Imperial IPA. Both were excellent. Seemed a bit under staffed, but friendly enough.

Love the dark bar and the NOLA inspired cuisine...started with a hurricane drink, praline bacon and finished it up with the spinach, oyster and bacon omelet.
Definitely a place that I will visit again as we had a great time!
My sister had the beef hash and said she wanted to have it again the very next day!
Check it out yelpers! -
Review from Sophia S.
This creole/southern place is great. The mac n cheese was some of the best I've had in the city--it tasted sharp and flavorful and was creamy with a breadcrumb sprinkling on the top. The pulled bork (vinegar based sauce. authentic and delish) was also a stand out on some sort of heavenly brioch-ish roll.
But, most importantly: BACON GREASE POPCORN!!! It is smoky and has cajun seasoning for a little heat as well. Yes, it is unhealthy.... But just go for it and don't look back (and use one of the wet-naps they put on your table for bbq orders to deglaze your hands). Pure heaven. I will be back just for this and drinks.
Don't come here expecting something light to eat (though my spinach salad was good) but do expect great food and a good tap list. -

We refer to Khyber as our Cheers. There's always a friendly familiar face to greet us, and they know our names! The food is consistently great, the servers/bartenders are always knowledgeable of the menu (which there are different daily specials) and how to pair the best libation with your meal. I am a beer drinker and I'm confident that there are few other establishments in Philly that can rival the Khyber's beer selection. Which changes weekly btw.
My only challenge is that I always ask my server to surprise me with a beer of their choice so I never remember what I had the time before. The only parameters I request is the abv i.e. 7% or below. Which often times 80% of the beer selection is well over 7%. Generally when we go back, the options have changed but are always good. I wouldn't recommend going in looking for a Miller Light Draft. They're proud beer connoisseurs and they may laugh but suggest a great local, light beer.
As for food, love the Bayona's duck sandwich. I've had the actual duck sandwich at Bayona's in New Orleans and Khyber's is a pretty solid rendition. The fried green tomatoes, crawfish etouffee, honey habanero chicken wings, bbq pulled pork sandwich the boudin and eggs for brunch are a few other favorites. And for any of you veggie/vegan folks, I was told the chef was vegan for a few years so there are usually non-animal options on the menu.
As for cons...the only negative feedback I can give is when we walk into the bar or restaurant and it's so damn busy there's no room for us. I'd like to think we have seats with our names on them and are bummed when reminded that we aren't the only Philly patrons who frequent the Khyber. -
Review from Pam S.
The Khyber has great food. A great beer list (that's always up to date). Tasty cocktails. But Khyber, the last three times I've been, service has just been horrible.
First, it was a late-ish lunch (uncrowded). It took forever to get our order in, then to get our food, then waving for our check, after being ignored for quite a while. That time, the two people I brought who had never been said they didn't think they'd ever come back.
Then, a normal (and uncrowded) lunch time, again, it took a long time just to get *water* and us frantically saying we were ready to order when they came. The service tone now is more "why are you here?" than "can I help you?"
Finally, stopping over for drinks and a bite, that attitude reared again -- when we weren't really sure who our server was since we had multiple people visiting our table, and finally just had all our cash out and ready before they came back and we could ask for the check.
I've brought a lot of people to the Khyber. I bring people from out of town. You know what, I probably still will. But Khyber has lost a lot of points in my book since service has taken such a nosedive -- I'm tired of apologizing to people for it and swearing it will be different next time. I hope this isn't just the cost of growing and getting a good reputation for food in town, because that's just a shame.Listed in: Vegan Region Highlights, Tour de Gastropub

Crazy place for a 24th wedding anniversary? Maybe, but it was everything we had hoped for and more.
The hubs went for the pulled pork BBQ and was beaming when it was served. An old southern boy -- you can't mess with his BBQ -- this was "as good as it gets north of West Virginia" says he. I can tell you the side of beans was ridiculously good -- smokey and delish. I could easily enjoy nothing but a bowl of that for lunch -- just wish they served it with corn bread.
I had to try the fried green tomato BLT. I never appreciated the green variety of this succulent fruit (veg?) until a trip down south and have craved a decent version since. Put it on a sammie with the ripe red variety, some lettuce, killer bacon, and some spicy remoulade and just try to stop eating after the first half. I foiled myself by eating tomorrow's lunch because I just could not stop. But so worth every calorie. Fries are worth a mention as well -- not everyone can fry a potato, but Khyber Pass knows the secret.
Stuffed, but not wiling to end the night, we decided to splurge. I love Pecan Pie, but only indulge about once a year. Lucky for me no one offered me a piece during the holidays because the pie here was again about as good as it gets north of the Mason-Dixon. And served with a heaping scoop of homemade whipped creamed jam-packed with cinnamon. So much cinnamon that it stiffened the cream to an almost ice-cream consistency. This is worth a visit all by itself.
Our server Kristen was every diner's dream, stopped by the table only and always when needed. And had a gregarious and friendly nature. I fell in love with her banana tee-shirt, but she wouldn't sell it to me! :( Can't blame her for that -- great tee!
Can not wait to try brunch here! The menu stared at us throughout the meal. Will review again after I take that plunge.
One final note -- the bartender on the night we visited (2/20) was exceptional, and I will stop in again and again just for a taste of that Scofflaw. Deadly decadent drink! -

The service was weird, but the bigger problem was the po boy. They go to such effort to get it right by flying in bread from NoLa. But this is just cargo cult cooking. They could make a correct po boy by using FRESH baguettes from a local viet bakery, use half the mayo, and some better fish fry batter.
Basically, the bread is wrong. Get fresh local bread instead of airdropped, toasted loafs.
Also, why no Abita or Dixie on tap?1 Previous Review: Show all »

Khyber has certainly improved since the last time I was there-prior to its revamp. Last time, I was irked that you couldn't really talk at the bar due to having a band in the adjoining room.
Fortunately, with the revamp the band space has now been converted into an eating area. I wolfed down on their Khyber Burger, which was delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised that they had a Cali-centric beer on draft, so I made sure to imbibe.
Only drawback, was the service was a little sluggish in getting us a table. We were told it would be a 10 minute wait...but somehow the server forgot about us and I had to inquire again.
Regardless, I found the quality of food, the ability to hear/talk with others and a great selection of beers as highlights of my recent visit to Khyber. -

I have not one negative thing to say about this place. Went for an afternoon "brunch" with some lovely locals. Food is unbelievable. I was blown away by the cajun shrimp and grits dish. The shrimp had just the right amount of kick and was cooked to perfection. The gravy was rich, meaty, but not too distracting from the also perfectly cooked mill grits. Grits are amazing in general, but the combination of cajun seasonings and the ham gravy made me fall in love even more so. Get that dish for sure. The gumbo and chilis kick ass. The duck sandwich was ridiculous. I could have kept ordering over and over until they rolled me out.
Nice beer selection, full service bar, the atmosphere is chill, comfortable with a touch of sophistication. Love the name of this place - is the owner middle eastern or indian??? But then the menu is true through and through Louisana cuisine. Really a great little spot and a must for any visitor of Philly. -

Embarrassed I was never here when I lived close.. been here 2x now, food is RIDICULOUS. Top it off, its southern inspired with an evenly matched beer list.
Sat once at the bar, again at a table. Service is quick, specials are great.
Go here hungry #1. Drink their beer #2, get the sweet potato creme brulee, it will make you climax immediately.
LOVE the BBQ, best since Sweet Lucys. -

Brunch this MLK Day morning... after a solid night of indulgence last night...
I'm glad I checked this place out, but it wasn't the best brunch that I've had in the City. I chose the tofu and sweet potato scramble with toast... and coffee!! I was so tempted to get a Bloody Mary but I resisted. I felt like ordering "sweet potato" scramble for brunch was plenty of vegetables... right? The order was right-sized... not too large... but filled my hungry tummy substantially. The spices and sauce added a kick to the otherwise bland and wet consistency of the scramble.
I like the re-model. I ate at a table where I previously might have seen a grungy band playing amidst a drunken crowd. Now - this other half of the bar is spruced up, freshly painted, and homey feeling. Even though I sat at the back near a crack in the wall, they had a nice space heater which kept me perfectly warm!
I'd go here again one day, but I'm not running back for a second helping this week.Listed in: Best Happy Hour, Good for Groups

It's just so good. I used to live a few blocks from Royal Tavern, went there all the time and the food and the beer and the vibe always made me SO happy, so coming back to the Khyber Pass in its latest iteration was sort of a no-brainer.
I have yet to find a way to go wrong on the menu. We haven't tried everything (yet) but it's getting tricky because we want to keep trying new things - but everything we've already had is so good that we go in craving them and then get conflicted. Definitely try the po boys (and the mac and cheese, and the greens, and the gravy cheese fries, and the sweet potato bisque...) and actually just try everything, ok?
As is par for my course, I like to go here during lunch time or off afternoon hours during the week. Always a nice beer selection, great staff, and if we're not careful we usually end up ordering more than one round of food like monster pigs. It's actually pretty popular for lunch, but you can sit at the bar or in the somewhat separate dining room. -

Went around 1130pm saturday and found a seat right away. Bar area was pretty packed.
Beer list was really good and reasonably priced. Get a good belgian quad for $5.50. Ordered the smoked cheddar fries with debris gravy (gravy with roast beef)... Amazing!
Look forward to returning and working through the rest of the menu. -

Brunch. Period. Wow. Served both Saturday & Sunday...do...not...miss.
I had the boudin with eggs which was fantastic. That said, the highlight of the meal was the "big ass" biscuit they served as my side. It came with the most amazing molasses for dipping which was the perfect combination. There's also a "big ass" biscuit entree which is served with gravy...I see no way how that could be a bad thing.
My wife had the barbecued brisket with sweet potato hash. Unbelievably good. The smokey brisket worked so well with the sweet potato and collard greens that were mixed-in. I might have dreams about this for months. The serving is huge so definitely think about splitting with a sidekick. Lastly, we couldn't ignore the praline bacon....yes...I said it...praline bacon. And yes, its as good as you are imagining.
And to top it off the Khyber has an amazing tap list that rotates on a very consistent basis. They do a great job keeping up with what's kicked and what's new on tap also. Definitely enjoy this spot no matter what the meal. I'm starting not to miss the bands that occupied the Khyber for so long...brisket now holds my heart.1 Previous Review: Show all »

We ended up at Khyber Pass because Eulogy had an hour wait - I'm so glad we did! We waited 25 minutes (not bad for a Friday night at 8:00), and while the actual length of the wait wasn't bad, the waiting situation is a bit challenging. The bar area is pretty small, and the only place to wait is sandwiched between the door and the area of the bar where the waiters grab their orders so you're constantly in the way. That said, the waiters were never impatient with us for being in the way so it was all good.
Once seated, the atmosphere totally changes - the seating area is spacious and really nice. I had the Pulled Pork sandwich with mac and cheese - absolutely amazing. The Pulled Pork had a delicious vinegary barbecue sauce, and was topped with coleslaw and a buttery, toasted bun - simple, but perfect. As practically all the other reviews note, the mac and cheese is amazing. It's baked and has a great layer of crunch on top. It's served very, very hot (it was still warm at the end of our meal, 30 minutes later) so the cheese stays gooey and delicious and you can take your time eating it. We shared a slice of pecan pie for dessert, which was also heavenly. To top of the seriously delicious food, our waitress was incredibly nice and attentive, and didn't rush us at all. I'll definitely be back! -

I've lost hours of sleep trying to figure out what's in that addictive bacon grease popcorn. I don't think I'll ever be able to recreate it, so we'll just have to keep going to Khyber Pass. Oh well! This place marries together so well so many different things - (1) dive bar with beer bar (complete with a beer list telling you what's been recently tapped and little notes stamped on it), (2) glorious meaty dishes (yummy fried chicken, awesome burger, obviously bacon grease popcorn) with vegan/veg selections a-plenty, (3) Philly hipster (not in a bad way - like in a Kenzinger, jukebox and beards kind of way) with New Orleans cuisine (gumbo, muffalettas and po-boys). There is literally something for everyone. Top it off with polite and knowledgeable service, and you've definitely got a favorite (and a rare place where I can chow down on ribs while my vegan buddies indulge in a vegan fried chicken po-boy)!

If you are looking to go to a bar for a beer this place can get crowded and loud. Typical in the way of bars. If you're looking to go to a bar and get crappy fried bar food DON'T go here. This place deserves recognition for pulling of not only a kick-ass beer menu, great service, but also extremely high caliber cuisine. If you're in Old City, this is the place. You won't regret it.
The Khyber.. where have you been all my life? Well.. you were around but where has this stellar food been? I've now visited the Khyber Pass Pub twice for brunch. By twice I mean 2 Sunday's in a row after taking in a Ritz flick in Old City.
This place can get crowded, but if you get there around 1:30 or so you'll get a seat immediately. Service is attentive, beer menu written across the chalkboard is extensive, you will find something you love. If not, go for the Creole Bloody Mary.
However, nothing compares to the food at this joint. I've now sampled their Po' Boys, Vegan Pulled Pork, Mac n' Cheese, Fried Green Tomato BLT sandwich and I found myself talking about it days later. They pull the southern cuisine off like no other place I've been to in this city.
