No reviews for Khona yet? Really? Well, I'll start: YUM.
It was a long walk from our hotel to get there, but I'd read about their coffee on their website and really wanted to try it. Wouldn't you know it - I walked in the door and realised I was in the mood to taste a maccha instead.
I tried the Afrikhona, and it was splendid. Perfect temperature, a consistency that was somehow thick and fluffy at the same time, and a lightly sweet, intensely green flavour. It was an excellent wake-up, and I think I'd snorked the entire thing by the time we left Fort Street.
I can't really comment on the ambiance or the service, as we were there only long enough to get a cup to go, but I'd definitely like to return to sample coffee and perhaps a snack. Alas, no Khona in my neck of the woods! -

Khona is located at the corner of Cook Street and Fort Street. It's nice and trendy looking inside and out, with obnoxious hipster baristas to boot.
The Good: I tried a cookie there once, it was pretty good. I had a really yummy hot chocolate before too.
The Bad: Their coffee tasted really weak, as well as a few specialty drinks I tried there. Weak or bland, not sure what describes them better.
The Ugly: Snotty, pretentious baristas. They type that think they're something super special because they can foam milk (not very good for that matter...). I've returned a drink before, only to argue with the counter person which informed me that they made it correctly, so if its tasteless, that's my fault. I've actually read reviews on other sites that have had this same type of problem. And they're always wearing hats. It confuses me. Why do they have to wear hats to brew coffee??
Two stars because I actually liked their hot chocolate. Based on weird hat wearing, snot ball baristas, i'd give it one star. -

To be honest this is a hit and miss place. The first time there I ordered a chai latte and it was absolutely awesome - probably a premix, but still better than I expected. The service was fast. While there recently I ordered the same thing, it took far too long to get to me - I had 20 mins before a meeting and less than 10 to drink it. Good thing it was lukewarm when I got it and tasteless, not.
Perhaps it was a bad day for them. However, with a city burgeoning with coffee places to try, I won't hurry back too soon, but I will eventually try them again.
