Review from Sarah W.
I discovered Kerstin's sometime last year and got really motivated to hunt the place down and try it for myself. While I don't consider myself a "chocolate lover," I do LOVE to try and experience new things. When I heard about a high end chocolate shop (that is also a locally owned business!) I couldn't resist.
Kerstin's is located in the bottom floor of a condo building, just off Jasper on 112th St. If you aren't looking carefully enough,, you might miss it. The shop itself is very small, but neat and organized, albiet it can be a bit hard to manuever if there is more than a handful of people inside.
Kerstin herself is wonderful - really knows her chocolate and is such a warm, personable person. She and her husband own the shop and both of them are phenomenal business owners. I have had nothing but good experiences with the staff.
They offer tons of chocolate bars, truffles and specialities, made in the tiny kitchen in the back of the shop. The chocophilia bars can actually be found at shops throughout the city, which is mindboggling, considering the small production space they are to work with. They also work extremely hard getting in imports and specialty bars from all over the world. They have everything you could ask for - single orgins, organics, specialty flavors, you name it.
I've been into the shop several times on a regular basis and love the little seasonal chocolates they put out - for St Patrick's Day this year they made a guiness chocolate that was to die for. Sounds weird, I know, but trust me on this. I also went to a chocolate tasting class last winter (thanks to my friend, Groupon!) and it was a lot of fun, very informative and very tasty!! The shop also offers chocolate making classes for small groups, which would be a really fun idea for a birthday or just something different to do on a Saturday night.
Pricing is a little higher than your average chocolate bar, but I believe it's very good for what's being offered and it's definitely worth the extra few bucks.
All in all, if you are looking for a simple luxury and a fun experience, definitely check out Kerstin's. It's worth it! -

I got the living social deal for a chocolate tasting at Kerstin's Chocolates - it was a good deal with the coupon, but I don't think I would pay full price. We were given a briefing of how chocolate was made - it was cool to see an actual cocoa bean and cocoa butter.
For the tasting we were given tiny little pieces of chocolate to compare (maybe 8 in all), and told to eat half and then save half to taste again - which is great in theory, but with such a small piece, there wasn't much to taste if you wanted to "save some for later".
It was a neat experience, but I don't think I really learned anything.
Luckily we got 6 Chocophilia bars to take home to practice our tasting - an almond, a lime, a dark, a cocoa bean, a fleur de sel and a hot chocolate (not "hot" like the drink, "hot" like the spice). Most of the bars are darker chocolate, and I prefer a lighter milk chocolate, but the fleur de sel is pretty good.
I am a self-admitted chocolate snob, and have been very lucky to have tried some very good chocolate, Kerstin's is ok, but for the money, I actually prefer Callebaut.Listed in: 30 Day Challenge

What a decadent delight to discover Kerstin's right in my neighbourhood!
Kerstin's selection of chocolate is phenomenal. She brings in the finest from all over the world (I personally love the Madecasse chocolate from Madagascar). And the chocolate she makes in-house is outstanding (I adore the fleur de sel caramel truffles).
I have always had exceptional service here, whether walking in to buy gifts or organizing a private chocolate tasting for a group of friends. Kerstin truly values her customers and goes out of her way to welcome you and offer her expertise. -

My wife and I attended a chocolate tasting session at Kerstin's Chocolates a few weeks ago, and it was awesome. Nina went through the various cocoa beans, where they're grown, and what properties they have. It was a great hour-long session, followed by us buying a bunch of yummy chocolate.
Over the past few years I've strayed away from buying the cheap chocolate and moved towards the expensive stuff, enjoying the flavour as opposed to devouring the bar. Kerstin's Chocolates will be a new hangout of mine; I used to live really close by the store, and I'm glad I didn't go there back then or I'd fear for my bank account, and my waistline.
If you want good, locally-produced (as well as imported) chocolates, give Kerstin's a shot. And if you really enjoy chocolate, consider taking one of the chocolate-tasting classes, you won't be disappointed. -

This is where chocolate lovers go to die...*L* The selection is always unique and incredible. The quality of the chocolate is unparalled. Kerstin is the equivalent of a chocolate somalier.

The chocolate selection is, in a word, unbelievable. I was extremely pleased with the chocolate they had available; in store made, bars and otherwise. The shop carries some of the best chocolate available in the Americas, both North and South. Their products are fabulous too; I had received a few things in the past weeks, the Valrhona pearls and chocolate caviar. The packaging is beautiful and the product is legit.
However, the service was really lacking. I went in looking to buy gifts for 46 people, and asked questions about what kind of repackaging could be done on their products, asked for some suggestions for gifts and so on. I was told "I will have to check on that for you..." but then the clerk never did any checking. I asked about shipping overseas and was told to "check our website." Uh, what? I AM STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Incredibly awkward, I did not feel educated at all.
Huge service fail. I left with my pockets full of money and eyes eager for other gift options. -

I have inadvertently been buying Kerstin's Chocolates in organic stores for some time now, so I was extra thrilled to accidentally stumble on the source of the Fleur de Sel chocolate bars I so crave! i was wandering down 112st towards 104th ave when I saw a peculiar sight.....what appeared to be a chocolatier in the basement of a condo building. I had to investigate! I wandered down the sloped sidewalk and then suddenly, I was there....in a room full of Chocolate with a lovely European woman behind the counter who patiently waited as I looked at EVERYTHING.
Kerstin's is truly a hidden gem. They make different flavored chocolates daily as well as a line of chocolate bars. I HIGHLY recommend the Fleur de Sel (chocolate with salt), as well as the white lemon and the cayenne pepper and chocolate. They also carry some tea and gift baskets. I picked up a handful of Fleur de Sel as the organic store I usually buy them at is frequently out. They are a bit pricier than your average chocolate bar, but the quality is so much better. I am so glad I found this shop and will be visiting often! -

If you love chocolate, and I am not talking about OH Henry, this is a store you have to visit. I'll admit, I am not that big on chocolate but I can enjoy it every now and then. This store has real chocolate. The only word that can describe it is elegant.
The store itself has an elegant atmosphere. They have so much to choose from too. Things like chocolate bars (chocolate mint, cocoa bean etc.), chocolate caviar, sugar free chocolate, tea and much more. It is going to cost you a bit extra than the chocolate at your convenience store but it's not that much more expensive.
It's something everyone should try. -

This is a nice little chocolate store which is easy to miss since it is located in the basement suite of a condo building. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and I hope that her business is doing great. I will definitely patronize this store from now on because I really enjoyed the customer ervice I received there, and loved the delicious chocolate. On my first visit, I purchased two kinds of drinking chocolate: the spicy one and the dark one. Both turned out to be exquisite. I am a big fan of hot chocolate, and Kerstin's drinking chocolate exceeded my expectations! Creamy, rich, not too sweet...
I will definitely consider Kirsten's Chocolates next time I need a gift for someone. The packaging of products is so cute that they would make a great gift. I would stock up on chocolate bars and drinking chocolate, put it all in a nice gift bag and presto! - the perfect present. -

I love chocolate, you love chocolate. Heck, who doesn't? Going to this boutique chocolatier is an event onto itself. The great thing is everyone who works there knows all there is to know about chocolate- The regions that produce it and their distinct characteristics in flavour, the different kinds, how it's made... It's amazing what you'll learn. They also locally make their own line of chocolate, and my favorite is the salted chocolate as well as the spicy mayan chocolate. It's magical in the winter because they always have a carafe of hot mayan chocolate that kicks your chills to the curb. I spent $20 on three bars of different kinds of chocolate but I savoured them for a solid month they were so good. Better than wine because you can still drive home. Check them out!

I finally had the opportunity to stop in to Kerstin's Chocolates during the Easter season when I won a free box of incredible chocolate as part of their annual Easter Egg hunt contest. The first thing I noticed walking through the doors of Kerstin's is the aroma. I could feel the chocolate penetrating my nostrils. And it is a nice feeling! I have purchased Kerstin's Chocophilia bars at other locations such as Second Cup (on 149 St.) and the Italian Centre, and it was great to see the shop behind the great product. The place is small and cozy, and when you try to find it you have to look carefully or else you might pass on by. In addition to their own line, Kerstin's carries quality chocolates from other parts of the world. The staff are extremely friendly and happy to discuss everything chocolate. I look forward to visiting again and taking a closer look (and taste!) of the merchandise.

Delish! I suggest this place only for people who are serious about their chocolate, as it is not cheap. If you dig Kit-Kat bars and cheap easter bunnies, then you probably wont like it here.
I will admit that I don't even really like chocolate, and I fell in lust with their chocolate covered candied lemon peels - wow! My boyfriend adored the chocolate I had purchased for him, and I tried my hardest not to devour the pate de fruits (yum)! This will probably become a regular weekend stop for me :) -

It's great that Edmonton has stuff like this, usually you have to wait until you're in NY or LA. Love the drinking chocolate and my boyfriend is addicted to 100% chocolate.
