Review from Angelo T.
I'm not much of an artist. The most I could ever draw was an epic forest for my art class which was half-assed drawn the night before. I ended up taking the most expensive sheet of paper in our class and taking my drawing pencil and paper shader and mushing out the crappiest (but eerie) group of trees. My art teacher, who was also my volleyball coach, decided to let his only left handed spiker a break by giving me an A.
Kengsington Art Supply is in a great location and one of those shops worth checking out on a Sunday where a stroll through Kensington shops made the most sense even if you didn't have any cash to spend.
Again for a guy who couldn't draw a straight line to save his life, I managed to find a lot of things of interest here. Some cool desk toys like that crazy wooden figure with all the moving joints. But what impressed me was their slightly cheaper collection of Moleskin notebooks and even cheaper alternatives. Compared to Chapters, this was a way better selection considering it didn't have the stupid fancy covers that really, only teeny boppers who never spoke to their crushes ended up "expressing their emotions" into their diaries. -

Well stocked, well organized, well staffed. I was finishing a painting for my mom for Christmas and needed a few supplies to complete it. So I popped into Kensington Art Supply.
All I needed was a few brushes and some acrylic paint. It was super easy to find, but even while I was standing there, one of the employees stopped by to see if I needed any help. I hadn't been in the store for more than about 5 minutes at that point.
I hadn't ever been in their old location, but I gotta say... the current space is really nice! Lots of product to choose from, no empty spots (this was only a few days before Christmas), but still room to move around between aisles. When places get too crowded, it can be a lot harder to find what you're looking for (or even just find things you weren't looking for). They've struck a great balance of both! -

This store reminds me of a tiny version of Curry's Artists' Materials on Queen St. West in Toronto.
They carry everything you would need for that masterpiece you've been working on, and then some. All types of paints, all types of brushes, and all types of paper and canvases.
I LOVE the fact that this place is easy to get to. Whether you're walking from downtown, or taking the train (get off at Sunnyside), it's conveniently located in Kensington. So once you're done shopping, you can easily grab a coffee or dinner at one of many many places in the area.
The service was excellent and the selection was awesome.
Aspiring to be the next Michelangelo? Well get the goods, and get it on. -

The customer service here is really, really good. There were two women working there last time I went and they helped me find exactly what I needed, plus they were friendly.
I hadn't known about the student discount and the cashier made a point of asking if I was a student, which I thought was nice. The discount is 10%.
Everything is well organized and they seem to have a wide selection. -

All I have to say is that I will drive an hour to get my supplies from this place, including custom canvas frames and quality paint. The staff is very friendly and have gone out of their way to fill my orders. If you need professional quality supplies, Kensington should be your destination.

What a great store. The staff is super friendly and helpful, both over the phone and in person. The move to their new (well, as of January 2011) next door location was a good decision, as the store looks much cleaner and brighter, making it a more pleasurable shopping experience. They deserve a good space. I am by no means a crazy, high needs craftswoman, but I've always found what I'm looking for here and if necessary, they'll order it. I also appreciate the free parking in the back.

This location is 10 times smaller than Mona Lisa but you know what they say good things come in small packages.
The store is organised very well, everything is easy to see and they seem like they have all areas covered. There is even a back space where they carry a selection of paper and canvas sizes.
But the most impressive thing beside their good quality stock for me is their customer service, there were three girls working today and although I was just browsing I couldn't help over their conversations with customer.
They really know their stuff, they were recommending mediums, and being very specific of what types of paper to use, the type of brush etc.
The clients had the best and most personalised service. The place is also really quaint, I was really impressed -

It's not a big place, but they definitely have a good selection of water colours, oil colours and oil pastels, brushes and sketch books.
They also have this tie-dye kit so you can get that authentic hippy look. The guys were just young working there, but they seem to know their stuff and were quite friendly. I'll be back.... -

I really love little art spaces like this one. Kensington Art Supply recognizes their main audience pretty well - the ACAD students up the hill. So they offer a pretty good student discount, and have all the things a student might need.
The staff know their stuff, and they are always helpful and never snotty. I appreciate that in an art store. They have a good selection of brushes, oils, pastels, pencil crayons and pencils - I noticed they mostly focus on items for the visual artist. -

So my lady got it in her head that she was the next Picasso or Pollock.
This was after shopping around for art which we both found to be way too expensive for "just a bunch of colourful shapes and lines".
Hence the "I can do better than that" attitude, so off we went to the Kensington Art Supply, which was recommended by a friend.
Now, granted, it's pretty intimidating walking into a real art store if you're yet to start your art career, but the guy at the counter was really friendly and helped my lady get off to a good start.
The store carries a variety of canvases in different sizes and styles, so after describing what we were looking for, the clerk found a few that were even on sale for us.
Next was the paint. Again, the clerk was very patient with my lady and helped select the type of paint to use for a first timer, and they carried all the colours of the rainbow in a host of brands.
Finally, we were directed toward the brushes that were on sale, and were instructed on what each shape can do and which were best for each paint type.
For only $80, we left the store with a ton of supplies, and better yet, my lady left with more knowledge and the confidence to pull off her greatest (and first) work of art.
