I hate to bad mouth dive bars, because deep down I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Kelly's Welcome is one of those places I've been to, and continue to go to even though I'm disappointed each time. It was formerly the location of the Brig, not to be confused with the downtown location. Nope, the Kanata Brig was a dive bar that was known for Karaoke, mini-pitchers of Rye and Ginger and of course an unfortunate incident where a man died after an altercation. Kelly's Welcome was a welcome (pun) change, but the thing is it hasn't changed much. It doesn't look like much money was put into the place when Kelly's took over so it is the same run down bar inside. The food is pub food, but not good pub food. Everything is deep fried and unless you're hammered, it isn't exactly a treat to eat there. But few people go there to eat anyway. As I said, it's a dive bar with your regular bar flies. the have a range of beers, mostly domestic, and really that's about it. TVs are scattered throughout the bar, so watching a game there isn't horrible, but there are better places with bigger and more TVs. It's not that it is bad, it's just not good either.
