There's something about the New West Keg that the Still Creek Keg just doesn't have. Coziness, old world charm, warmth and oh yeah, not having to wait an hour and a half for a table.

First off, two thumbs up for fitting us in with such short notice. I called at 7pm and the girl who answered the phone was simply amazing. Super nice and found a table for us and booked us in. This on a Sunday night.

Food - Excellent. Came out in a timely fashion and my prime rib was just the way I had ordered it - MEDIUM. Twice baked potato was twice baked, not once baked. And I just want to say something about their fries - they are AWESOME! I don't know what they did to them since I last went there but they are amazing. Garlic cheese toast - a little salty but not bad.

Service - We had a guy being trained that night and everyone at our table agreed that he was fabulous. We are not even sure why he was being watched by the girl who was training him. We actually thought he could have given her a lesson or two in how to be friendlier to the customer.  Oh well...I digress.

Was here the other day as a friend of mine works here.  I remember the Keg being tasty, delicious and to die for.  I was terribly disappointed.

    The good:

Staff - very friendly, even when they didn't know that I was with a co worker of theirs
Ambience - low lighting, cute candle holders on the tables in the "lounge"
Shrimp Cocktail - nice jumbo shrimp with a great sauce
Wine - my friend and I shared a wonderful bottle of Pinot Gris and I was in HEAVEN

    The bad:

Crab Cakes - I was astounded at the cost for two dry crab cakes and the dill tartar (I think that's what it was) didn't really go with it in my opinion
Prices - The prices here are so expensive that anything more than appy's will put one person down $100, or at least that was the impression I got.

Overall, I will be back but will not have the crab cakes again.  I was so disappointed in them especially since that is what I was looking forward to when I got there.

Food is good, I wish they didn't change their menu so often. I thought it was just because of a difference between a lunch and dinner menu, but I've come there enough times to realize that you can't really have a regular food item without having it replaced or changed.

One thing that hasn't changed is their Billy Miner Pie, I never get anything else for desert.

We went in on a Wednesday evening and it was surprisingly pretty busy. A bit of a wait for the dining area but there was room right away in the lounge. We were hesitant as we had our 20month old son and don't want to be "that" couple with the loud toddler in the fancy(ish) lounge. Turns out the service was SO great our toddler had NOTHING to whine about. We had Melissa as our server and she was WONDERFUL from start to finish. She went above and beyond to accomodate our son and it didn't go unnoticed. From the moment she saw us she gave him some extra drink coasters to play with (YAY!!) and then (without us ordering a kids meal) brought him a plate with veggies, dip, crackers and strawberries... his eyes seriously lit up like no other. This kept HIM happy and occupied therefore kept us happy :) ... and she brought him icecream at the end of the meal --- nice!!!
The great service continued with prompt drink refills and checkups frequently.
The food - well - the food has never disappointed us at the Keg. My hubby ordered a fancy steak where I was feeling more for appy/salad type foods. BOTH fantastic.

The atmosphere of this keg is pretty neat too. So old and cozy..

    Overall very happy

We love this Keg. It's so old school. Filled with tons of history and excellent food. We came here on Valentine's Day and a week earlier. I find that The Keg is hit or miss and this one is no different but I have nothing truly negative to say about it.

The servers were always pleasant, the food cooked properly (except on V -Day. The ribs were overcooked and dry and the garlic shrimp tasted reheated. That's what we get for going to The Keg on V Day!) but the steak was delicious and the chicken was perfection.

Cool old train station turned restaurant. Food is standard keg fare, good but too salty. Service was mediocre when we went, we were constantly waiting for drinks and had to ask for water repeatedly. A fun night out nonetheless.

Free Parking! Me likes, me likes... if you go after 6pm, there is free parking along Columbia St. DO NOT GET STUCK ON FRONT STREET!

They don't take reservations, but we went on a Thursday Night for my Aunt's birthday. There were only five of us, so we weren't worried. It was about half full.

I love the complimentary sourdough bread and whipped butter. It's warm. It's nice to nibble while I decide what I want to order or wait for people who swear up and down that they'll be on time and straggle in about half an hour late. It's nice that they don't make you wait for your whole party to seat you.

We started with the crab, parmesan and spinach dip. I didn't have much of it (I was there for meat), but it was gooey and hot. I like the chips it comes with, not the tortillas, but the other ones.

My mom and my aunt ordered the special (a sirloin with mushrooms and blue cheese sauce), my fiance got the sirloin with red pepper sauce, my dad got the prime rib and lobster and I got the prime rib classic. I always get this... I started getting it when it was $19.95, I was still getting it when it was $22.95 and I am still getting it now that it is $26.95. It comes with a caesar salad, baked potates, and mixed veggies. Their prime rib is fabulous. It's the right mix of fat and meat. Meat. Sigh. I love you meat. I get it as rare as I can and I cover it in horseradish. I wonder if they grate it themselves (Earls used to, do they still?) because it is so spicy hot it burns my nose? I want to take it home it's so good.

They brought my aunt a brownie with a candle, while my parents got a cheesecake and I shared a Billy Miner slice with my fiance. There was no consultation, I ordered this without asking him. The mocha ice cream was light and airy and the oreo crumb didn't hold together. I tried the cheesecake. I wanted to wrestle it away from my parents, but that's not nice. If I walk by a Keg, I will order a slice for the rest of the walk...

Our waiter was so nice! He was very attentive and my coke was refilled. He had someone shadowing him that night and she was also very attentive.

Umm, why is the washroom and bar so far? It's upstairs. I'm lazy. That's far.

The Keg is always reliable for serving delicious quality food.  We walked in without a reservation and were giving a wait estimate of 15 - 20 mins, which was how long it took.  Service was very friendly and pleasant.  It was a busy night, but that didn't affect service or the food.  Everyone was helpful and everything progressed in a timely manner.

They were featuring crab that night and so accordingly, we ordered the crab cakes and crab chowder to start.  I couldn't taste the crab very well in the cake as the sauce served with it overwhelmed the flavour of the cake.  Normally, I'm not a fan of any kind of chowder, but this one was delicious.  For our main, we ordered the Prime Rib Classic to share.  It came with a side of potatoes and some veggies.  I didn't like the jus that came with the prime rib, otherwise the whole plate was delicious.  They kitchen knew we were sharing and had split the meal for us.  Love it.

Note - parking is a nightmare.  They have a tiny parking lot and the streets surrounding do not have many areas for parking.

    They have seriously perfected steak.
Enjoyed with a glass of red wine, every meal  has left me very satisfied.  The service has exceeded my expectations repeatedly and the location is both historic and near a fabulous boardwalk.

The Keg is always a good place for a date-night kind of dinner. The lighting is low, the food is great, and the service is very good. I don't know how they train their servers, but they're always polite, friendly, and able to anticipate a need rather than just respond to it. The steak is just beautiful, tender and mouthwatering, and served with massive portions of sides. I could eat steak and drink red wine all night!

This particular Keg is located in an old train station at the foot of 8th Street in New Westminster... reportedly, the train tunnels that run up to the basement were never completely closed off and rumours abound that the place is haunted. You're not likely to see ghosts while dining here... but I think it adds a spooky dimension.

It's been a while since I've been to The Keg, almost 5 years which was with an ex boyfriend. For the record, The Keg Down Under does not constitute as an official visit to The Keg steakhouse chain. I remember the service being awesome the last time I went and thankfully the same matched my expectations this weekend. I've been to a lot of restaurants lately after so many years which sadly have declined in both service and quality of food. The consistency of The Keg was how I remembered it to be which was both reassuring and refreshing. My steak was done to perfection, the way I like it. They still have awesome cuts of steak. I am sad that I forgot the camera 'cause visually they got the grill marks right. The potato was nicely baked throughout. The servers are trained very well in terms of hosting and customer service. They were very attentive and understood my allergy concerns without making me feel like a burden. In fact the head chief himself came out and talked to me directly to make sure that my allergy concerns were addressed and accommodated appropriately which is rare to see (usually the waitress passes on the message from the kitchen). I took the guy that I am dating for his B-day since it was a special occasion. It is very $$$$, therefore, be expected to spend a little under $100 without drinks for two. It's a once in a while treat if you want high end steaks. You do pay for what you get overall for service and quality.
