Classy restaurant, odd location next to Tim Hortons"
This was our first visit to the Keg. The building is still relatively new, and it's design has always caught my eye. Apparently, the Keg is known for buying historic manors and turning them into restaurants. Considering the location and area, this new building is very avant-garde.
I erroneously assumed that it would not be busy because of it's seemingly odd location. I could not have been more wrong. My lovely wife and I arrived at opening, approximately 4:30 on a Saturday. The main entrance area was filled with ladies who seemed to be dressed for a night on the town. We were promptly seated, and the large restaurant was basically vacant.
The bar area is large and the restaurant has a modern and contemporary layout, with minimal lighting for ambiance. This is a great spot for a date or for a small group of friends. I would not call it upscale fine dining, but somewhere in between casual and fine dining. I would suggest dressing business casual.
By the time we had our drinks, the restaurant had quickly filled up. I started with the French Onion Soup, a prerequisite for all my steak evenings out. The server was very helpful with my Celiac wife, and eased the anxiety she experiences when eating out. Gluten Free Celiacs - you know what I am talking about. We appreciated that the manager came out and offered his help for any gluten concerns.
Prior to the main course being served, I escaped outside for a cigarette. The waiting area by the main entrance was packed, as was the bar area. On this particular Saturday evening, the place filled up fast.
I chose the New York striploin steak dinner, medium rare. My wife and I both enjoyed our meal thoroughly. Our servers was very attentive, yet was not intrusive. High marks from me for this rare service balance. My only disappointment was their signature Billy Miner Pie dessert. It was not bad, I simply had higher expectations. It was huge, and I came nowhere close to finishing it off.
Overall, this was a very good visit and I forsee us trying the Keg Manor.

The Keg is a reliable spot with some excellent service. At my age, this can be a rarity! But no, they treat everyone like equals.
First off, the place is enormous and has that shiny, just like new feel. There is ample parking and the restaurant is packed. No wait for a table for two in the lounge though! There is really no difference between eating here vs. the dining room, except that the waitresses wear LBDs instead the shirt and tie combo.
I had the blackberry martini, not muddled upon the request of my Keg-experienced friend. It was delectable and lemony. Leaving the drink not muddled meant that the bottom there was a surprise of martini-soaked, full blackberries. Yum!
For dinner, I indulged in the prime rib (PR) with garlic mashed potatoes. Ah, it`s been a while since I've had something like this. What was I thinking waiting? The meat was a nice medium rare and SO tender, yet with a crust. Being PR, naturally there was a lot of fat but just put that to the side and you're a-ok.
The sides were equally great. Garlic mashed potatoes were perfectly buttery and whipped, with potato skins running through it for a nice change of pace. Also, I must have missed reading this on the menu but you get a big serving french-fried onions! So delicious and crispy. Accompanied with everything was some jus and horseradish. The jus was delicious and the horseradish was INTENSE. Who needs that much? I don't want to know; boy, it burned. All the elements were there for some serious mixing and mashing it up.
All in all, solid food and service that waits on your hand and foot. No complaints! The Keg philosophies seem to be translating nicely across the board, even to less central locations. Thumbs up! -

So the saga of the Keg continues...visit to another keg in a matter of days! Went here on a weekday in a huge group after a loooong day at work. There was hardly any seating space and we kinda squeezed in the bar area which is sizable. Eventually everyone was sitting at the bar and we decided to continue sitting there for the rest of the evening/night. I still think they need to train their staff a bit better to deal with the rush. I personally saw it and have heard it from quite a few people that they are not sure what to do when the population lands there for a desperate shot of alcohol coz the government works them so hard :)
The decor is nice since its a newer keg. The service was very good. We didn't have a reservation and the staff was very accomodating to a huge group.
The aps consisted of calamari, teriyaki chicken which were both very good. I ordered the baseball steak which was cooked a perfect medium rare. The carb addict in me loves their double baked potatoes.
A few of us ended up staying past midnight and we never felt like they wanted us out of there. We continued ordering drinks since the quality of service never changed.
I would recommend making a reservation even on a weeknight as it seems to be very popular for after-work drinks/dinner. -

Why the heck is a vegetarian reviewing a steak house?!?! Well, I got dragged here by a work group...I usually go along figuring every restaurant will offer a veggie choice,,,hmmm, I'l never say that again! Not at all vegetarian friendly here...LOL.
I will say objectively from viewing friends meals that this is a really good place for steak lovers. Portions, sides and salads are generous and everything looked excellent. I had a side salad that was huge and very good and a flatbread starter and found both very good and very filling.
I'd give this place a 4th star if they would offer ONE vegetarian item. I know you think I'm being a tree hugging imbecile here but think about it...it's not that unusual for a large group to have a vegetarian or two and you're writing that whole group off by not have a single simple vegetarian item on your menu...just saying is all.
Nice bar area and overall good service and great ambiance. -

Food was average at best trying to sell itself as a world class steakhouse. Even with reservations two days in advanced they had trouble seating a party of 6. We waited in the bar for 30 min before being seated. Service was very good but that's not enough to save my review. Still looking for a great steakhouse in Ottawa.

Been to this location twice since opening. Service has always been top notch and food exactly as ordered. Be sure to order the miner pie to share for dessert, it's a must have.

I too was staying at the Hilton near here. I passed by the keg earlier in the day on my way back to the hotel. Starting off I had the escargot appetizer, it was delicious. Then for an entree, I went with the Sirloin Oscar. It was a near perfect steak. The dessert is where they lost a star. It was odd to me to be served food so exquisitly prepared, then to be served a creme brulee that looked and tasted like something a McDonalds would sell. It wasn't bad, it just tasted like Jello® instant pudding with some sugar on top. Other than that my experience was perfect. The waitresses all looked stunning in their "little black dresses". They were very attentive, without going over the top. I will definately return next time I'm in the area.

What a great steakhouse here in Ottawa. I'm visiting Ottawa for work and I'm down the road at the Hilton.
There's not a lot to eat around here (that I know of) and this place has been on my list to dine at since my last visit 6 months ago.
I asked the waiter for his suggestion and went with his recommendation for the baseball sirloin, a double baked potato, and a light beer (unfortunately I don't remember the name of the beer).
Due to the thickness of the steak, they can only cook it medium rare without burning the outside of the steak. What a great cut!! Very tender and tasty.
The waiter was great, the hostess(es) were wonderful, and this dining experience can't be topped.
They were very busy on a Saturday night at 7pm but that's to be expected. When it was my turn to be seated, I was seated very promptly. Can't complain at all!
It's definitely a pricier restaurant but you get very high quality food, it's not too fancy and I saw quite a few families with younger kids in attendance.
So dress nice if you want, it doesn't hurt, the atmosphere is a little more grown up overall.
