Yelp Challenge 365 # 79/365
I've been meaning to write a review of this restaurant for some time now and since this place came up in conversation, I figured I'd write a review now!!!!
My brother and I go on ski trips regularly, and this go around, we were skiing Blackcomb in Whistler BC. Mind you, my brother lives on the continent and GOOD sushi is sometimes hard to come by. We find Kaze and decide to have our dinner there.
Our waiteress was very friendly and helpful with the menu. I order a sashim (raw seafood) platter. I ask her to give us everything that is fresh with the exception of salmon. Why she asks? I told her I'd rather have tuna or snapper or anything, just no salmon please..... She says "PLEASE!!! we have very special salmon tonight.... PLEASE try. If you don't like it, I will take it back and bring you something else..." Okay, bring us the "special salmon" then.....
OMG!!!!!! Surpassed the taste and texture of the fattiest toro or hamachi..!!!!! I've never had anything so tasteful! So I need to find out what made this salmon so "special" and the answer was: It is wild salmon caught in the upper Pacific; their sushi man goes to get the fish from his purveyor who sells only the BEST of the WEST.....
We proceed to order another order of salmon sashimi and everything else is was as good as it could be and the rest.... the rest is history which the taste and texture of this special salmon will forever be remembered by me.
The end.Listed in: Yelp 365 Challenge, On The Road Again, Sushi Anyone?

We went here on the advice of our ski instructor and we really enjoyed the sushi. The quality was great. We generally do not do many roles but tend to stick with sashimi or sushi. We did get one roll here and it was good but just way to big. I do not like when they make massive rolls. The sashimi quality great, with just great salmon. My wife wanted to get some more sashimi but we found out you could only order five pieces of each, what is up with that. It made no sense to me.

A poor excuse for a sushi restaurant, especially one located in a Westin. Tempura was sad: only a thin coating of batter soggy with oil, floppy shrimp, asparagus that was mostly wood. Maki sushi were tiny and came apart -- exactly what one would expect from the use of too-small sheets of seaweed and lack of technique.

Not awesome.
Our family of 5 went during the busy holiday season. Service was amateur-hour all evening long. Bring menus, take menus, but no one to take an order. When our waitress did come back to take the order, she then turned around to get more menus. We didn't need the menu. Keystone cops.
We ordered the set menu for dinner. The entree of which is a "hot pot." We had 4 adults and somehow the waitress heard that we were only getting the hot pot. So our meal ends up coming in reverse order. And the hot pot was a large pot, an ample serving for 2. So much so we even asked if this was the order for 4, which she confirmed. The food in the hot pot (4 shrimp, 1 oyster, 2 shitake mushrooms, a handful of vermicelli and some tofu) was high enough quality, but the quantity was way off. I'd be pissed if this was what I actually ordered as the entree at $30/person.
The appetizers (chicken skewers, edamame, miso fish and 4 gyoza) were passable, and the sushi boat (all rice-heavy rolls) was edible, but it was by no means a great meal. I would have thought that with Whistler's high number of international visitors, every restaurant would be able to pull something good together. Delicious if not a terrific value. This was average and highway robbery.
We left hungry and will not return. -

Friendly staff, just like all of the restaurants in Whistler. Everyone is so nice. Rolls were average with the exception of the Tropical Roll which was... Exceptional!

We didn't actually dine in this restaurant. We had take out. The restaurant is within Westin Whistler hotel. Wow,,, is what I can say. The toro is hmmmmmm so good. The sea urchin is the best that I have ever had!!

West Vancouver, BC
Went there during the Oilympics and I would say it is execellent sushi. Friendly service - always a smile. Real crab California Roll, Spider Roll, Nigiritoro, Maguro Sushi, Hamacho Sushi, are all very nice. The price range is certainly a reflection of it's location (inside the Westin Resort and Spa) but parking was easy during the Olympics inside the hotel.
