Kashu is very hit-or-miss. The food is crazy tasty, but the service can be lack luster and casual to the point of being forgetful.
Take out and to-go orders are always a-ok but each time I've dined-in the staff have been scatter brained and all over the place. They're always friendly and apologetic though so it's hard to stay mad. I still keep coming back. -

Kashu is located in Steveston Village, near the Starbuucks on the corner.
The place looks better, the walls painted, and loving the booths.
Service is friendly, quick, and helpful.
Sashimi is FRESH! Sockeye salmon, hotate, saba, & ika delicious!
Udon, not very good - overcooked! -

KASHU is the former Le Nakamura - same location, newly renovated, with new owners.
THE AMBIENCE
I only stopped in for a moment to pick up my take out, but I barely recognized the place - definitely not boring anymore. But one thing hasn't changed - and that's the great food!
THE SERVICE
Even in very short interactions, phoning in my order and picking it up, the four staff I dealt with were quite friendly and helpful.
THE FOOD
Their maki sushi, nigiri sushi and sashimi are perfect. FRESH FRESH FRESH! The vegetarian gyoza are super flavorful and yummy. The pricing is reasonable, and the ratio of ingredients in the maki sushi is good - no cheaping out with too much rice like some places will do.
THE VERDICT
All in all, it looks like Steveston's best sushi spot is even better than before. -

I'm not sure which restaurant the other reviewer went to, but give Kashu a definite PASS.
There a few Japanese restaurants in Steveston - 1 actual geniune winner, run by real Japanese but this one ain't it! Food comparable to all-u-can eat and asurdly overpriced.
I came with a guest during their Grand Opening weekend when you would think they would be on top of their game - NOT. We both stared in disbelief at what was served and staff didn't seem to care.
Le Nakamura - was light years better than Kashu! Steer clear. -

I love to try new restaurants, especially Japanese ones. After a full day of walking with the dogs, my bf and I wanted to get take out somewhere in Steveston. After noticing a lone table in front of the restaurant, we decided to check out the menu.
What sold me was their "chef recommendation sushi". They had great variety of plates and it was an extra bonus that we got to eat outside with my dogs.
We ordered beef sashimi, philly roll, & uni don. All were fantastic in size and tastes even better!! All the staff were nothing but helpful and kind. They even came out and gave my dogs a bowl of water. Thats service!
Only downsize to this was the price. 3 items came out to $50 approx including tip. All in all I would recommend if your in Steveston and craving for Japanese food
