    * Close to 750 lbs of meat?!?!?!?!  WAAAHHH? *

Found this restaurant located in an unlikely location on a very industrial strip of Pemberton Ave.  It is fairly close to my old reliable nuts, dried fruit, and Persian bakery spot called Afra (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) and I've always meant to try it out.  So glad that I finally did!

The khoresh gheymeh bademjan was a wonderfully flavourful stew of chicken, eggplant, split peas, tomatoes, limoo amani (dried lime), and saffron.  The chicken was so tender and nicely highlighted by the rich flavours of the stew.  The eggplant, which had a delightfully sweet flavour, was served in long thin slices on the top, making for a very pleasant visual plating.  I'm fairly convinced there was a touch of honey added to the stew as well, but it wasn't listed as one of the ingredients.  This was served with a huge plate of fluffy Persian rice that had a very pleasant buttered flavour.

I really appreciated that the friendly waitress (yes, friendly - I don't know why some previous reviewers on other sites complained about the service, as both waitresses were incredibly helpful and friendly) asked if I would like the beef barg kebab juicy or cooked through.  Of course I ordered it juicy, and was really happy with the choice!  They take the fillet and cut it into thin strips marinated in a saffron mixture that they then skewer and grill.  It was deliciously tender, just the right amount of char, and extremely flavour packed.  It came with a similar plate of fluffy Persian rice, a grilled tomato, and a small side salad that had a very pleasant dressing that had distinct hints of mint (nice touch!).

I appreciate that all of the kebabs on the menu tell you exactly how much meat they include.  Given the precision of telling you how much everything weights, the beef barg was ironically listed as 330 kg (close to 750lbs for those of you that are old fashioned!).  While it was a very generous portion my guess is that it was probably 330 g, not kg!  Most of the kebabs are either 450 "kg", 420 "kg" or 330 "kg" - plenty to share when you include all of the trimmings.

Ended with a cup of Persian chai, which had a very pleasant hint of spicing, and of course had to sample the desserts as well.  Had a combination of bastani (a rich housemade Persian ice cream flavoured with saffron and rose water and covered in pistachio dust) and faloodeh (a sorbet made of vermicelli, rose water, lime juice, a little starch, and also covered in pistachio dust).  The dessert was refreshing, and the perfect end to a lovely meal!

This is now my favourite spot for Persian food in the Vancouver area.  I look forward to returning and trying the lamb, which I spotted on another table and it looked amazing - and the menu promises a full 450 "kg" of it!

This place changed it's name to Hakhamanesh.

Apparently they have new owners, staff and cooks.

The food was good.  The chicken (joojeh kabob) was good, a bit salty but good.  The hard rice (tadik with ghormeh sabzi) was the best, it was so so delicious.  The beef (kabob barg) was good too, but not as juicy as I had imagined.

All in all, not a bad place to go, they have a dance hall/pianist and music on the weekends.  It's cozy enough for a big party or a few friends to have dinner.

    Definitely give it a go...

This is only my second time having Persian food, but came here on a strong recommendation. I was so impressed by how tender and delicious the chicken and lamb were. I couldn't stop shoveling the yogurt dip in my mouth.

My breathe reeked of garlic and onions for two days, but I would definitely go back!

We loved Kashcool. It's beautifully decorated, traditional Persian-style. Even crowded, the service was attentive and cheerful. The food was great. The joojeh kebab and chicken are flavorful, juicy and tender. The fesenjan was delicious. Of course nothing tastes as good as home, but this was by far the closest I've experienced. And don't miss their homemade ice cream, it's an incredible end to an elegant meal.

I love this place, I was in Vancouver in Oct for the Madonna concert. The whole time we were up there all I wanted to eat was Persian food, and that we did- lots of Persian food.

Strangely I couldn't find anything on Yelp for great persian restaurants- I did some major research in our hotel to find what was suppose to be the best persian food around.
The reviews were pretty bad about the service, but the food part sounded wonderful.

So after being lost for some time trying to navigate ourselves to the "Persian" part of vancouver( North vancouver), and stopping by a Persian grocery to buy some dates and I think some walnuts- we finally get to this industrial area, and tucked away is Kashcool like a little unassuming gem.

The service was fast and friendly, I think the lady was slightly impressed because I didn't need her to explain what the dishes were (plus i was with my persian friend- who looks mexican).
We basically ordered almost everything on the menu, Joojeh kebab, lamb, appetizers, ash- we just wanted everything and we ended up eating most of it also.
The lamb we got was soooo good I almost cried, I think I had a tear in my eye- it was so deliciously cooked, tender and flavorful. Even my friend agreed that it was the best lamb we have ever had in our entire lives, and we are lamb eatin mo fos'. I seriously think its worth driving from Seattle to North Vancouver just because of that damned lamb.
Heavenly.... and the cook was pretty hot.

kashcool restaurant has been changed to Hakhamanesh restaurant.

wwooooooowwww, the most beautiful middle eastern restaurant in vancouver. when you enter the restaurant ,the history of persian empire comes live infront of your face. the interior design is amazing!!! the entire restaurant was finished with persian hand work. the food was very fresh specially the kabab was very juicy,i still have the taste in my tongue. i went with my husband on sunday night and there was live piano, the sound of the piano and the music from the water in the pond were mixing to create a very romantic atmosphere . i am a big fan of this restaurant.

OMG, their rack of lamb is to die for.  I had my bb camera but the room was too dark and trust me on this, if I snapped a picture of the lamb I had, you'd hop in your car or seabus right now!

This was my second time here and we went to TOWN today. We had their egg plant dip and I have no idea what else was in this dip, crispy onions I think and yogurt and it was the best egg plant dip eva. We ordered some lamb which came out to be at least a rack and half of lamb chops ($24), perfectly grilled, very tender and flavourful. We had another skewer of chicken ($15) and frankly, I have no idea how they make their chicken so very tender. The room has really unique fixtures and even a koi (or maybe just large goldfish I am not some fish expert I dunno) pond in the middle with a paper sign that says 'please do not throw pennies' very retro chic. I highly recommend this place but be prepared to splurge as it can add up or so it seems but if you have never had Persian food, check them out. Oh, they are not quite 5 star as I did like the room but did not love it, when you see it, you'd understand. Service was good despite what other say on the net really, friendly and fast, but maybe also we were the first 2 at lunch there at noon.

We went to Kashcool for our son's birthday. We had heard some recommendations about the place. The food was OK, however the service was not good at all. We had a long wait. Our table was ignored. Then the main dishes came in and at the very end the appetizers. Upon paying the bill the waitress that had ignored us completely all along, told us there is a 15% gratuity for larger tables. I replied, that's fine, but how about if we were not happy with the service. The waitress angrily took back the bill and she added the gratuity to the bill herself. We were not happy with her behaviour at all. We left the restaurant with a bitter mood.

I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone as long as these type of employees work there.
