So far I've tried the Gobi Aloo and Chicken Tikka Masala Kati rolls. Yum yum! The chicken has a great roasted BBQ flavor and even a hint of smoke--that yogurt sauce (I think it's called raita?) they pair it with matches up perfectly. The rolls are $5 each and are filling enough for a lighter lunch appetite. If you're hungrier, I recommend getting a rice plate.

This food truck also uses Square, which comes in handy if you don't have cash.

I ordered two because no way one would suffice for lunch. Gobi Aloo Kati Roll  & Chicken Tikka Masala Kati Roll (total came out to be $9). I was very disappointed that they think they can charge $4.50 for a small kati roll with barely any chicken in it.

Both kati rolls were very flavorful and it did taste good. Just totally not worth the price. I would recommend you get the Thali plate ($10.95). I think you get more for the price you pay for kati.

This place is very popular and I've never seen a short line here before. The food is supposedly authentic, but could be questionable seeing that there are no indians working in the food truck.

Regardless, the food is amazing. I had their chicken rickshaw last time and earlier this afternoon I had their lamb rickshaw. Basically the ricksaw gives you samosa + choice of meat in this takeaway box. Quite filling I must say and definitely go with the hot sauce! Having gone there twice, I think the chicken tastes better since it's more flavorful, whereas the lamb was just mixed with some potatoes. Not bad, but not as good as the chicken.

Price: a bit high for a college student like me working in SF. total came out to be $11-12 for just the rickshaw.

I'm excited that this truck comes to SFSU now on Thursdays. It is super yummy and the people are all nice and efficient. I think the tikka masala is excellent, but a little small for the price. I've also had the ghobi aloo, which is pretty oily, but tasted alright. I recommend getting the "rickshaw" which is a tasty wrap of your choice and a samosa with potatoes and peas with cumin.

Food: Amazing authentic Indian food. It has all the spices and flavor with none of the grease and oil. The saag paneer is creamy and rich and generous with the paneer. They top it off with crunchy onions and fresh parsley, which blend perfectly with the curry. And they use a delicious roti, instead of an uncooked bland tortilla. The side of raita is a nice touch, use it as a chaser instead of a dipping sauce and it's super refreshing.

Service: Very efficient and friendly. There were two people ahead of me but I waited in line, ordered my food and got it all within 5 minutes.

Price/Portions: $5 for a wrap is a great price but they aren't very big so I suggest also getting a delicious mango lassi.
And you can use a credit card with no additional fee or minimum purchase.

I've been meaning to try this truck for months.  I learned that they actually stop near my work place once a month and I jumped for joy.  I scheduled all of my meetings around the day I can order food from this place.

The smell of delicious curry lured me like in those cartoons when a freshly baked pie or bread is left on a windowsill and the main character smells it in the air.  The line was thankfully short (rain and coming right before the lunch rush helps) and the order came through quickly.

    Things that Were Awesome:
+++Chai - The best chai I ever had.  This is comparing to your standard Indian restaurant.  Piping hot and full of tasty spices.  I was sad when I reached the bottom of my cup.
+++Wrap - Compared to Curry Up Now you feel you're getting ripped off.  However, there are no rice fillers in Kasa's wrap.  On top of that they don't use tortillas as a shortcut.  I got saag paneer to satisfy my seriously bad saag paneer cravings.  Cooked with fresh spinach (aka not in a box, like certain places I know).  Nice portions of paneer, you won't get ripped off (like in certain places I know).  I ordered the regular (not spicy) version.
+++Sides/Sauces/Dips - Taste homemade.  Nice and mild to counter the fire of your spicy wrap/rice plate.  I usually don't lick the raita (yogurt) bowls clean but for reasons beyond me I had to.

Things That Were Not So Awesome:
---Samosa - It was fine, nothing to write home about.  Though if you want to give someone a good introduction to Indian food samosa is your best bet.

Conclusion (For the food truck addicts):  Between Kasa and Curry Up Now this truck can stand on its own two feet (or four tires).  In my opinion Kasa is the supreme Indian food truck of the two.  Less filler, more flavor.

Delicious, delicious, delicious. That's one delicious for every item I tried, the eggplant kati roll, the lamb kati roll, and the spinach kati roll, were all amazing. The meat was tender, the vegetables were flavorful, and I don't think I could have asked for anything different.

The nice folks of Kasa Indian Truck very generously fed the volunteers at Sunday Streets- Embarcadero on 3/11/12. Thank you!
I had the Chicken Tikka Masala rice plate- rice, daal, chutney, onions, large portion of chicken tikka masala. See previous reviews regarding ordering the spicy version. Very tasty, but strictly for those who appreciate the Agent Orange approach to digestion- burn, baby burn.

The BEST indian food truck in SF!!! I've tried a few of the other indian food trucks and none of them compare to this one. The truck comes to the financial district often right outside my work so it is very convenient for lunch. I usually get the "scooter" which has 1 roll and 1 samosa. I usually get the tikka masala roll and potato samosa - both are super flavorful and the whole meal is pretty filling. If you have a big appetite, I would definitely say to get more than 1 roll. Rolls are about 4 inches. In addition to decent pricing, the wait is not too long either. I waited about 5 minutes for my food. They also take credit cards, which is awesome. Definitely will be a regular here.

I was looking forward to trying out this taco truck, especially since it's so close to work.  Unfortunately, after having had Curry Up Now's food, this taco truck pale's in comparison.  The portions are about half of what you get at Curry Up Now, for the same price.
Their vegetarian options aren't that great either.  They have palak and aloo wraps and rice plates, but nothing with paneer.  I tried the aloo gobi wrap and found it to be really salty.  I was pretty disappointed that my food was cold.  The chutney was also off.  Unfortunately, my craving for indian food went unsatisfied.
I think next time, I'll walk the extra five minutes to the Curry Up Now truck for my Indian food wrap and deconstructed samosa.

Clean, fast, and efficient -- the minimum requirement for a lunch place and something this truck possesses. I've definitely had much better Indian food that was tastier but I will admit this place had fresh stuff presented well. It is a safe lunch option if you work in the area. The prices are very reasonable for what you're getting.

They also take credit card which is nice for a food truck.

Kati Chicken Marsala rolls were delicious! I also fell in love with the Samosas, so much that I went back to get more and they were all out! Bummer! Kasa compares very favorably to that other Indian food truck trawling FiDi, Curry Up Now. Though their product is essentially the same, Kasa successfully differentiates itself in the details. Their burritos (called kati rolls) are smaller. Since you'd need to buy two of them for a total of $10 to equal the amount of food you're getting with one $8 Curry Up Now burrito, Kasa does lose on the value dimension. Keep in mind though that one roll may be enough to satisfy, as they're very dense (especially if you're on the petite side and don't need a lot).

It might be a toss up for some, but I'd give the nod to Kasa in terms of taste. They have less curry in their chicken tikka masala roll compared to CUN, without sacrificing any flavor, making it somewhat easier to eat. Unlike CUN, these rolls don't contain any rice, which means you're getting more meat. The cauliflower and potatoes in the aloo gobi roll have the perfect mushy texture. If you get your rolls spicy here, it will be less intense than the spicy burritos at CUN (a bonus for me, since sometimes I like the kick but have a naturally low tolerance for heat). On top of that, each roll comes with a container of raita that you can use to temper the spiciness.

I don't find this to be a very quick lunch option, since the popularity of this truck guarantees that you will be waiting a while; first in line, then for your food. Definitely worth a try if you like Indian food, however.

Rohit walked me to the Powell BART station last Saturday morning. As I made my way into the entrance by the Apple store, I hear someone pounding at the glass wall as I proceed to the stairs. It's Rohit, pointing and mouthing "do you want some?!" (the exclamation point was indicated by his lit up eyes). This was our first time at the food truck; we've been to the restaurant.

Just as we expected, the kati rolls are sooo soo soo soooo good. Ahhh, the raita too. And the samosas taste like like come fresh out of the fryer. The mint dip that comes with the samosas--mouth orgasm! Who would have thought such delicious food could come out of a kitchen in a truck!? Thank you SF food truck movement!

Three Words: Chicken Tikka Masala...just incredible!
The flavors are fabulous...and Be Warned: the hot sauce is HOT!
The portion of the rice plate is perfect for lunch...I also tried the Saag Paneer, which was very good, but I most certainly enjoy the chicken more!
The folks at the truck were sweet, and my order came quickly.
I've been here four times in the past two weeks! Twice at Truck Stop and twice on Mission between 1st & 2nd.
Thank you, Kasa for bringing your wonderful food to the streets! I will certainly be a regular!

This truck stopped infront of my work a few weeks ago and even though it was pouring rain.. can't stop me from getting indian food!  I got the plate of chicken tikka masala and saag paneer.  The food was quite delicious and unlike most places, the chicken tikka was not creamy, actually a nice change and much lighter.  The saag paneer was also very good and flavorful, also not a creamy base, just pureed spinach.  The rice they used was just so-so but the chutney they added on top of the  my plate was tangy spicy and delish!  I would go again when they stop at my work next time. Price was also decent, one plate lasted me for 2 meals.

I've been daydreaming about their mango lassi ever since I tried it the other day at the Creators Project. It probably is the best mango lassi I've ever had (others from authentic Indian restaurants have been too thick, or overly sweet, or just icky). This one has a burst of various flavors - nutmeg, vanilla, ginger...Mmmm. I'll probably try to make my own to save myself $3 each time.

Oh god, they have roti. The kind that I grew up with. And they make little rolls like mom used it. GG.

So we stumbled upon this truck by accident and after carefully evaluating my options, I figured this was the truck to go to -- they have a vegetarian option and they take credit cards. I decided since I knew nothing about this particular truck that I'd opt for the Kati rolls. I got my friend the Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb curry rolls with a samosa and for myself an aloo gobi roll with a samosa. He loved his; but he definitely expressed more love for the Chicken Tikka Masala.

The samosas were good, nice and simple so paired with the chutney it was delicious. The rolls are a bit small so if you're a light eater (like me) then one roll and samosa is perfect. The aloo gobi was spicy and the cauliflower remained crisp and the roti was delicious.

I had a lamb curry kati roll, which was only the second kati roll I ever had in my life, the first being at Vik's in Berkeley. The lamb was tender and juicy, the paratha soft and flavorful. Next time I'll ask them to make it a little more spicy.

I also had their samosas, which are my favorite samosas in the city. The right size, delicious flavor, not previously frozen... thanks guys.

I am naturally drawn to purple food trucks. Also, Indian food. I just got back from a trip to India visiting my in-laws, and it was really cool to find a truck in the states with the words "Horn OK please!" on the back and Thums Up cola for sale!

There was a super lovely and nice girl taking orders. I got the chicken tikka masala Kati roll - spicy - and it was yuuummmy. They're not lying about the spicy! I love that it came with a little container of raita too. I'd definitely go back and try more on the menu - 5 stars withheld until I've eaten more!

Okay, I admit it. I was previously too snobby to get excited about something sold from a food truck. I mean when I was in high school and college working on construction sites, the food truck was not a gourmet experience. It was more of a "I hope I don't get really really sick from eating this mystery meat taco" experience.

Well, times have changed. I visited the "Off the Grid" food truck experience in Larkspur today and I ran across Kasa there. It was clean and inviting. It was more like an outdoor restaurant than a truck, though there's no question it was indeed a food truck.

I ordered the lamb curry. The friendly woman taking orders asked if I liked it spicy and I knew there were some good possibilities coming at that point. Yes, of course. Spicy is the way to go.

The food came and I wandered over to a picnic table. The food was fresh, interesting, spicy, flavorful...just fantastic. The lamb curry had a myriad of flavors and it was accompanies by a sort of pickled red onion and some very zingy green parsley sauce that all blended well with the rice.

It was $10 and far surpassed meals I've paid more for at many sit-down restaurants charging more than that.

The ambiance was, well, outside and cold. The service was, well, a woman I could barely see in a truck. But the food was worthy of putting a GPS tracker on this truck to stalk it for more of its inventive food.

If you see this truck, stop, eat, enjoy. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

The food is pretty good.  Not just your typical Americanized Indian food.  I often get whatever vegetarian plate lunch sounds good at the time and a samosa ($9.50).  The cashiers, however, are always surly and sometimes inattentive; last time I went the guy got my order wrong and when I went back to correct him, he acted as if it was my fault he got it wrong.

I can't help but run to this beautifully branded pink and brown truck every time I see it.  Whether at the SF Street Food festival or at Off the Grid, you know you are going to get a spicy roll of kati love every time.

The Kati Roll is a buttery layered bread similar to roti prata filled with flavorful grilled chicken and covered in a delicious spicy green sauce.  Please note that while you are enjoying this delicious roll, the spicy sauce is accumulating at the bottom of your roll.  So by the time you get to that last bite, please be ready for a fiery blast of green sauce that has been soaked up by the layered flat bread.  Don't worry, its nothing that a cool iced chi or a creamy mango lassi cant fix.

KASA TOTALLY HIT THE SPOT! JAI HOOOOO!!!!

As a new comer to Off The Grid, I was excited to see Kasa Indian Truck at OTG - UN Plaza on Tuesday, 7.26.11. I have never eaten in their restaurant in the Castro and it was my first time at  their truck today; it did not disappoint. All the authentic Indian flavors and spices were there and weren't dumb down to appeal to the masses which I really appreciated.

    ~ ~MENU~ ~
*KATI ROLLS ($5): Chicken Tikka Masala (Chicken in a Spicy Tomato Sauce) or Gobi Aloo (Cauliflower & Potatoes) - Two or three is recommended for a meal
*RICE PLATES ($7.50): Chicken Tikka Masala, Gobi Aloo or Saag Paneer (Spinach w/ Cheese) Served w/ Basmati Rice
*SPECIAL ($7): Caesar Salad w/ Housemade Spicy Croutons & Chicken Tikka (Grilled & Marinated Chicken)
    *VEGATARIAN SAMOSA ($2.50)
*DRINKS ($3): Housemade Chai & Mango Lassi

For the Chicken Tikka Masala, Gobi Aloo and Saag Paneer, you have a choice of Regular or Spicy.

    CC's Accepted.

    ~ ~MY ORDER~ ~
Luckily, there was barely a line at 11:45 AM. I placed my order of Kati Rolls with the friendly cashier and my order was ready within 3 minutes.

For those unfamiliar with Kati Rolls, they're a classic Indian street food that is like a baby Indian burrito. A roti which is a cross between a flour tortilla and a naan is filled with meat and/or veggies and eaten like a handroll.

    *CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA KATI ROLL
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...
My FAV of the two, the flakey, buttery roti was lightly crisp, yet soft. It was filled with tender, moist chunks of chicken simmered in tangy and creamy tomato sauce. There were also thick onion slices giving a sweet crisp texture contrast. Each bite was bursting with flavor and I could taste the garlic, cumin, cinnamon and paprika.

    *GOBI ALOO KATI ROLL
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The cauliflower and potatoes were perfectly cooked to a soft al-dente and well-seasoned with garlic, ginger, turmeric, paprika and cumin. It was just as flavorful as the chicken tikka masala but as a carinwhore who loves her meat, I preferred the chicken tikka masala kati roll hands down.

The accompanying Raita (yogurt sauce) was the perfect compliment. It's creamy richness help calm down the slight kick from the regular spiced kati rolls and added a nice cool tang to balance all the spices.

    ~ ~MY BIGGEST GRIPES~ ~
    1) They were very messy to eat because the bottoms of the kati rolls weren't tucked in securely causing the fillings to fall out from the ends when eating.

    2) Considering their food truck competitors sell regular sized fusion burritos for $7-8, the kati rolls are overpriced especially when they're less than half the size. If you need to eat 2-3 for a meal; that can cost up to $15. They should lower the price to $4 or use a larger size roti to make burrito sized kati rolls.

While I was waiting for my order, I saw the friendly owner of the truck asking customers who had just finished their meal what they thought about it. Being an OTG regular, this was the first I've seen and it clearly shows the owner is welcome to feedback and values his customers' opinions. I hope he takes note about the pricing/portion sizes because I think Kasa Indian Truck has a lot of potential. JAI HO indeed...

The kati rolls are really tasty - I ordered the chicken tikka masala and a vegetarian roll and shared them (as well as some other food) with the BF. He liked the chicken tikka masala better but I liked both. They come with a small yogurt sauce which was really good. I also ordered both of them "spicy", but neither of them tasted spicy? Only gripe is that the portion is mini for $5/each so it's not a great value.

The mango lassi looked really good so I'll definitely make sure to get that next time.

I passed by this truck one day early after already having made plans for lunch a block and a half away from where Kasa was parked. I ordered a big meal there. Very satisfying.

On my way back, the truck was still there, and it looked like the main lunch rush had died down significantly. However, I had seen the prices on the chalk board and Mexican Coke.

I got two Samosas and Mexican Coke. Great after-lunch dessert ahahaha. The Samosas were delicious with the sauce they give and at a decent price. Want to get more next time.

While waiting for a pizza at another food truck parked nearby, my coworker and I wandered over to this truck. I love Indian food and had to try something. We opted to split a chicken tikka masala roll for $5. Awesome deal. I wish we didn't split it because it is that delicious. Can't wait to try again.

They were parked on Ritch Street in SOMA for today's lunch.

    Untraditional marriage rolls through town.

Not New York style (congrats!), but San Francisco style, which means Indian and Mexican food continue their delicious courtship.

Kasa in the Castro started things (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Now this match made in heaven has gone mobile.

The chicken tikka roll tastes just as good sitting down in a traditional restaurant as it does standing outside of a truck. Still $5. Still awesome. Unfortunately no roll sampling, so unlike at the restaurant, you'll be forced to choose.

Strawberries with a rose water cream for dessert. Do not miss.

San Francisco will allow everyone to marry anyone soon enough. Kasa might be the perfect choice to cater the party.

Kati Rolls that come to me! It's about dang time!
For those not in the loop here's the definition:
Kati Rolls: Flaky, buttery roti, lime marinated onions and cilantro chutney rolled up with your choice of fillings.
Had the great flavors I enjoy about Indian cuisine but didn't put me into a food coma right after. Here's the breakdown.

2 Kati rolls one spicy one mild: Both delicious with the spicy one kicking the back of my taste buds to almost past the threshold but then I would just dip it in the yogurt sauce that they provide with it and I'm good. The mild was good as well and I got it as a back up just in case since I know Indian spicy can be the most extreme out there if your not careful.
1 Samosa: Very good with a crispy exterior and a pillowy potato interior also accompanied with a nice dipping sauce. A bit small for $2.50 a pop though.
My buddy tried the Mango Lassi and rice plate which both got a thumbs up.

The only drawback is that their portions while not tiny are definitely not as big as one comes to expect from an Indian eatery in SF but if that doesn't put you off then I would definitely recommend a visit if you see the big pink truck in your area.

I don't know about you, but when I order a chicken tikka masala rice plate, I expect to be uncomfortably full to the point where I regret ordering it.  Call it Americanized thinking or what, but Kasa's chicken tikka masala seemed like a super healthy alternative.  It lacked flavor, definitely lacked thickness in the sauce, and honestly, wasn't worth the $7 or so that I paid for it.  Compared to many other trucks that offer rice plates, their take out container was pretty small.

++ on the fact that they take credit card, but when I can walk slightly further to get a chicken tikka masala burrito from Curry Up Now, this was a disappointment.
