I love a designer shoe store who can put on a good sale, and this place knows how to turn their stock. On a regular day, if price tags don't scare you off, you're bound to find a beautiful and super trendy shoe that calls your name. But I suggest waiting for boxing day, because the sales tip the 50% range and get as good as 80% off.
The brands are your typical "trendy" names (Steve Madden, Cole Haans, Nine West, L.A.M.B., Miss Sixty) but these can be hard to find in Halifax, so the store is a real draw for ladies on the hunt for the latest trends.
And if you need an incentive to splurge, they offer a small discount if you bring in and donate an old pair of shoes. -

Ahhh..I remember the exciting arrival of Kick Ass Shoes (KAS) like it was yesterday! Gorgeous, high-end shoes was welcomed into the open arms of men and women alike as Haligonians left proudly with fashionable footwear worthy of European streets!
But alas, not all things are meant to last forever. Men's footwear was cut after the first year or two, leaving only women's shoes behind in its wake. Not surprising, but definitely not ideal now that all the fellas have to turn elsewhere for footwear worthy of an investment.
Still, the store goes strong with a wide range of women's shoes. From a huge selection of TOMS (including baby styles...but yet not men's? Sadface.), to over-the-knee boots and great deals on Cole Haans, this will quickly become a lust-worthy stop for any lady who thinks with her feet. Er...you know what I mean.
Oh-and yes, staff tend to carry around an expected level of snoot but since there aren't many other options, you're just going to have to put up with it.Listed in: Spring Garden State, Ohmigod...shoes.

I have very difficult to fit feet. As a result, when I do buy shoes? I tend to spend a good chunk of change on them to make sure they last. So I'll take a spin through KAS because I like to support local businesses. I've probably been in there a half dozen times over the years and have never been acknowledged by the staff or asked if I needed help. I suppose I don't look like their "type," It's a shame that this attitude exists.
So I take my shoe dollars to other shops. John David Shoes has many of the same brands and I'm always greeted with friendly and welcoming service. -

Kick Ass Shoes. That's what it stands for and holy moly, they're doing a good job living up to the name.
With brands ranging from Toms to Coach, Miss Sixty to Betsy Johnson and much in between, I longed to buy, buy, buy. It was almost overwhelming but it's good to know that Haligonian fashionistas aren't having their footsies suffer from unflattering footwear!Listed in: Sprinkled With Haligonian…

I had a fun time at this shop yesterday. Not only are the workers total babes, they're also very helpful and personable.
I tried on a pair of flats... okay they were Tom's, and yes, I'm also jumping on the bandwagon. They were super cute and rather comfy but I wasn't sold on color choices.
The women assisting me told me about their experiences with the shoes, and were patient and helpful. There were a number of other people in the store, perhaps all trying on the same shoes as me.
The selection was great overall and it seemed like they'd just received some new sexy stock. Perhaps it was the summer sun and my exceptionally upbeat mood, but I quite enjoyed my KAS visit yesterday. I shall be back, either to buy shoes, or to throw some old pairs in their donation bin for people in need of new kicks.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The first time I visited this store I was on a quest to find a pair of nude pumps to match a dress I bought for a class ring ceremony. In the interest of full disclosure I should mention that while my feet are average length (size 8-9 women's) they are wide (C-D width usually) and I have trouble buying heels at most stores. I decided to check out KAS on a whim, thinking that if nothing else it would be a fun way to pass an afternoon. The selection of styles and colors that they carry blew me away, and I had no trouble tracking down a pair of size 9W nude Steve Maddens. The shoes were (as most shoes they carry are) a bit budget bending, but I the staff was very nice and gave me $10 off because they were the display shoe and had a small scuff on the heel.
Hot Hint: This is a great spot to check out if you are looking for something specific or just killing time downtown. They don't carry a lot of each shoe in each size so if you see a pair that you like you should snatch it up before someone else does! -

The name of this shop is fantastic. Love it, draws me in.
However come a little bit closer and I'm just not so moved by Kick Ass Shoes. I might compare KAS to the American actor, John Cusak's latter career. You want to like it. You try to like it. There are some great qualities about it and in theory, its all very promising. But the truth is, something's missing. Something you can't quitttte put your finger on.
If someone were to ask me if I liked KAS, I'd reply "Yes, sure, of course". Because its a nice shop with nice product. I enjoy the variation and cool styles they offer. But nothing ever seems to WOW me enough to complete a debit transaction and commit. Its all just a smidget off center for me.
I enjoy footwear. I'll gladly invest in a good set of boots. And despite my accumulative KAS failure, I continue to stop in; each time with new hope. You'd think I would've learned by now, but the hope remains. One day... I'll find something.
Although I WAS happy to notice that the shop sells 'Campers'. Its the first and only place in Halifax that I've seen carry this brand. (And if anyone knows where else they might have them, fill me in!) But the style they carried was just a little bit meh. I've seen better.
So perhaps its a matter of style. Mine is just a pinch in the other direction? Hmm... either way, I'd say its worth a peek if you're downtown and looking for some fancier footwear. Maybe you'll have better luck than I.... -

The bold name of the store was what compelled me to check out KAS- their selection of heels kept me coming back for more! I'm known to strut in stilett's when I'm out on the town, so KAS' collection of towering pumps and tall boots definitely appeals to me.
On my first little adventure at Kas, I was seeking a pair of high-rise heels for a friend's birthday at . I scored a gorgeous pair of 3" Zanotti heels (this is the only place in metro where I could find the brand, and even here it's hit-or-miss). Since then I've been a repeat customer for boots and sandals.
The customer-service can be a little off-beat sometimes (the first time I shopped at KAS, I said I would only return because of my footwear finds- however, in recent trips I've found the service has been better), but for the most part the service element of KAS isn't a dealbreaker.
One thing to note about KAS is that it tends to cater to a pretty select group of people with a certain taste in shoes. Beyond their collections of heels, there is very little variety (KAS' selection of flats is especially disappointing). Stiletto enthusiasts will likely be pleased with KAS and its products. -

I suppose there's a certain "type" of woman who finds the hobbling, high-heeled monstrosities at KAS appealing, but I'm not one of 'em. But hey, if that's your cup of tea, you probably LOVE this shop. It's just that, generally, even though I love shoes, there's not a single thing that appeals to me, the dressed-down type who feels that it should be essential that one can actually walk in one's shoes.
Not to mention that the prices in this shop are STEEP. Like, crazy high. Like, half a month's rent high. Like, who, in heaven's name buys anything in this store? The staff are, in my experience, snotty - I mean, they can see right away that I'm not their typical customer, so generally they don't even bother asking to help me. Not that I want help.
Still, I keep hoping that some day they'll stock something I like so I can go home and sell off my TV for a pair of shiny new shoes. -

This shoe shop losses points with me on the variety scale as well as in terms of sheer cost! Whoever does the ordering for this shop clearly purchases for a pretty limited group. Don't expect to find an converse sneakers or really shoes with any personality at all...
My gripe isn't so much with the brands (although the selection is pretty poor) but rather with shop policy. A few years ago I bought a pair of shoes at this shop only to discover when I got home (and had a chance to walk further than 8 feet) that my ankles rolled off of them dangerously whenever I attempted to actually walk (say, without thinking about it... as people are want to do) I quickly returned to the store same day and was told no returns! Not even with receipt, same day, perfect condition (minus a lap or two around my living room). I found this completely ridiculous. The sales people I was dealing with were quite brash as well... there was no attempt to smooth the situation over. More of a: tough, we have your money and there's nothing you can do about it.
Needless to say I had no intention of ever going back although ended up popping in this past summer for a 60% off pair of the havaianas flip flops.
Beware the return policy at this shop! As Ang M put it... maybe this will be your type of place. I'd prefer to head to funkier shoe spots in general. Check out: http://www.getoutsides... - Canadian pricing and no exorbitant shipping costs. TONS of variety too! -

Two things - First, I have really big feet. Most shoes do not fit me. Second, I am not a girl, none of the shoes in Kick Ass Shoes (KAS) have anything to do with me. With these two thoughts out of the way, I will say that I do like KAS.
I was in not too long ago with my girlfriend who needed a pair of classy heels for a formal occasion and she needed them in a hurry. The staff was really friendly and quick and put up with my annoying questions and comments about the store (generally, if I'm not shopping for me my mind wanders and random questions start to slip out.).
There was a small scuff on the shoe that was decided on and one of the staff was quick to take out a bottle of "scuff remover" (That is the technical name) and clean it. This was a great extra service that was not needed but greatly appreciated.
The shoes were a little pricey, but totally worth the price. They looked fantastic and I would definitely come back here...if I had regular sized feet...and was a girl. -

KAS trades on a catchy, risqué name to hype their store. KAS offers sexy footwear from a variety of makers, geared to the shopper who has more money than I do.
KAS shoes simply aren't all that. I'm at the stage of my life where I value comfort over sex appeal, and KAS definitely doesn't cater to my demographic, which is a shame. There are plenty of cute, comfortable shoes (see Winsby's across the street) that KAS could carry. However, there's definitely a segment of women who will value fashion at any cost, and that's who KAS targets.
Sure, the shoes look great. But for this old fogey, KAS misses the mark. -

There are two kinds of women...those who love shoes and those who..well...are there any women who don't like shoes?
Kick Ass Shoes on Spring Garden is almost like a museum or art gallery of glorious footware. I love the displays and, while I rarely buy anything there,....heels way too high for me, toes often too pointy and mostly way outside my price range, I love to live vicariously and spend some time imagining myself on a fashion runway or some very trendy club. Seriously, if you can wear them, this is the trendiest shoe store in the city.
And, they do have great sales and even I can find some great deals on boots and ballet slipper style shoes. -

Kick Ass Shoes, the best thing about this place I like is the name!
I was expecting a lot more from this store. Neither of us were jumping for joy over the selection.
I also found the place just too small. there is one place to sit, and most of the husbands or boyfriends that are being drug out for their valued opinion, are taking up the seats.
I would not go out of my way to shop here, but if strolling by I might pop in to see the sale. -

Personally I like a little anonymity with my shopping experience, so the small space is not my favorite. Especially when I'm surrounded by shoes I can't afford - I want to feel free to walk around leisurely and browse, without feeling like the salesperson is eyeing me the whole time. This is not possible in KAS, and for me the time I spend here suffers for it. Their limited selection is not really up my alley style-wise, but I do occasionally need some sort of fancy footwear and as this is one of the few shoe stores in town I usually take a peek. Said peeks have never ended in me purchasing anything, though.
