I can't remember where the hell i was; it was one of those perusal days, you know? one of those days where you decide that you decide to paddle around your neighborhood or someone elses, and just walk and peek into stores, stare at people and generally do nothing (even though you really feel like its a whole lotta something). And so it was that on that day, i happened upon a store called Made You Look and happened upon a brochure for a photographer named Karri North that was sitting atop their window sill. And on that day, I silently swore that it would be this woman who would shoot my wedding and capture all its glory (and believe me, there was glory) with the same gusto that was barely contained within that bright orange brochure.
Well Karri was incredibly down to earth, open to ideas, served us tea while we poured through her portfolio (though not necessary since i was hook line and sinker already) and we all looked forward to the event where she took many different types of photos.
We decided to have half black and white and half colour (i probably would have gone for only b & w but that's my deal and not a reflection of karri because her expertise lies above the preference as photos from both types were brilliant and rich in both texture, lighting, composition and presence). She took some family portraits (again, in a very non staged style, as per our preference). She snapped photos of food, speeches, dancing, preparing for the wedding, some laughing, some crying, some body parts, some hairdos, some flowers; some bits of everything were alchemized into the phenomenal group of photos we now own.
For 7 hours of work at a wedding she charges 2000 dollars. This includes being there photographing the whole process, over 350 4x6 proofs of the best photos plus a cd of all the images taken. For portraiture, its anywhere between 300 and 400 dollars depending on the number of folks being photographed for a one hour session. Look on the website for details about either kind.
There are two things that I would never allow anyone to ever erase from my memory and experience from our wedding. One was the food. The other one on par with the former is of course, Karri.
