If you don't want to make the trek down Alexandria, then this is the place you go for the best wife cakes in town. A treat for any non-local, the wife cakes here are something famous to the folks back in Toronto and even in Hong Kong. I'm not allowed to show my face to the in-laws unless I've got a few boxes of these in hand!

The new location doesn't serve food, so don't come here looking for some over-sized grub. They've only got baked goods, but the options are still plentiful and you could easily walk away with several little buns, tarts, and loaves. Cash only, and they take large orders over the phone if you don't think you can hold out from temptation while standing there waiting for them to pack stuff up for you.

A super quick trip of Brighouse Station on the Canada Line, and right at the Richmond Centre. Grab a bun while shopping, you just might be happy you have that extra energy boost!

I think they are only good for their wife cakes. As I've tried a lot of their baked pastry buns, and they don't make me jump for joy. In terms of asian style baked pasteries.. please go to either Maxim, or Saint Germaine's! You'll get a party in your mouth :)

There's two locations of Kam Do in Richmond. This one is the newer, and more cleaner one :P The other one is attached to their restaurant. Product is the same.

First time trying their things besides their wife cakes... and i'm super super super super super super disappointed. I want to wash my mouth with a pastry from Maxim or St Germaine's right about now.

Oh Tip: if you're hungry.. there's also New Town Bakery across the street XD get your hot hot hot steamed delicious bun! only $1.95 for a humongo bun! NOOOM!

PS: What are wifecakes you ask? They are pastries that have a wintermelon filling. Flaky hard on the outside, and sticky sweet in the inside. I'm not a big fan... but others will travel the distance for this stuff.

The quality of their wintermelon wife cake has gone downhill.  The wintermelon filling is bland, and the crust breaks to easily.  Their buns are too dry.

I do seldom this location to get the wife cakes (loh poh beng) here, as for the lower mainland, they make the best, hands down. I have tried the other things, from the preserved egg pastry, to the other fixings known for a Chinese bakery, and they are up to snuff, but for the most part it is all about the wife cakes here, with that good wintermelon inside.

This location is just the bakery, compared to the other that is combined with a restaurant inside serving up HK cafe style meals. They definitely picked a great location to open, right across from the last stop on the Skytrain station in Richmond, and also near Richmond Centre Mall. Parking is no where in the front, but you can park a block away, or walk from the mall, if you took your four wheeled vehicle and get your sweets. The layout is wide and spacious for a bakery, as in a lot of floor area, and nothing is too crowded. They do bake the items here, and when I come in to pick up a half dozen, they get them off the fresh trays near the kitchen and load them up in the box.

All they need is to have one in Vancouver, so I do not have to go all the way to Richmond, but this is a good start to expansion for them!

This is a nice new bakery shop at Richmond Centre.  Paying at the counter is fast.  Quality of the goods and prices are standard for a Chinese bakery.

The only thing I tried at this bakery was the egg tarts, and they were delicious. I ate like 5 of them in a row!! I can't speak for the other cakes/pastries (they did look yummy though), but the egg tarts were great.

Kam Do Bakery on No 3 Road is the second store, with a focus on selling bakery items. So there is no restaurant. And a smaller place to sell bakery items as they took more space for the bakery department to make pastries instead.

Nonetheless, items are fresh (always). And they now have individual packages which makes it fresh as they are individually wrapped. Though, you still have the choice of having it not to be wrapped, etc.

However, I noticed that their Wife Cakes have gotten smaller and more expensive... Thats my only rant about that, I will go back there once in a blue moon...

I've tried the wife cakes ($1.30 each) from this location and the original Kam Do Bakery and Restaurant - both are great. I am not sure if they bake them all at one kitchen or separate, nonetheless the new stand alone bakery here does a good job. It also sells all the typical Chinese bakery offerings like egg tarts, pineapple buns that are about $1-$2 each.  I didn't like the egg tarts here as I found the custard to be a little bland and the tart wasn't very flaky. But do try the wife cakes, made with winter melon.
